Review:
New to Berkane Sol, Aleks Zen impresses hugely with these two newies which perfectly rise the fusion between house, neon-coated '80s funk and post-dubstep production and bass. There's so much good stuff wrapped up on "High Life" - thin 808 snares, trippy G-funk mono synths, punchy kicks and blunt, subby bass - that it's virtually impossible not to be hooked after just a few seconds. On the flip, "Pimp Shoes" is another cavalcade of cool, and a winning meeting of Floating Points hypnagogic textures and Night Slugs' rhythms. Highly recommended stuff!

Review:
Released by the fledgling label grown out of the popular dance blog We Are Blah Blah Blah, the ridiculously young Alfie makes a killer contribution to the grimy techno/UK bass scene with this two-tracker that's already garnered support from Four Tet, Claude Von Stroke and Addison Groove. On a militant tech tip, "Uncomfortably Numb" rocks a rush of pattering hats, colourful slow release pads and some seriously deft arrangements, while "About Midday" is a gloriously gonzoid thump of 808s and skeletal melodies. Hugely impressive stuff - these have a long shelf-life indeed.

Review:
A killer new double-tracker from Altered Natives, a man currently on outrageously good form following his "Tenement Yard" album, remixes of Ikonika amongst others and some awesome DJ sets to boot. Though he's already got a new album slated for July, these two twisted funky house workers bridge the gap until then. "The Bitch" takes the lead spot and builds on tech kicks with a rough and funky acid bassline, all the while keeping things urgent with old-school 808 fills and some deep atmospherics, in the vein of 3024 label boss Martyn. "Crop Duster" gets on an even more funky, soca-dippin' tip with some urgent hats and claps keeping the tune driving along nicely while a slowly filtered post-dubstep bassline develops underneath. These two are definitely gonna tickle fans of Martyn, Kode9 and Cooly G, and anyone who appreciates some quality, forward looking house period.

Review:
Altered Natives follow up on their 2009 anthem "Rass Out" with the wonderfully deep and soulful "Believe In Me". Zed Bias turns in another kinky remix with cheeky percussion whereas Aphrodisiax add a charming retro vibe to the original. New Altered Natives track "Raaatid Einstein" makes an appearance too, bringing chunky drums and soul fired organ keys with it.

Review:
Australia has been a little slow to catch on to the whole post-dubstep thing, with garage inspired bass with a broken beat yet to truly catch on in the Southern Hemisphere. However, with the release of Sydney artist Amberscape, it looks as if that may be changing. Although comparisons with Burial are likely to come thick and fast, mainly due to the EP's rich atmospherics and haunted vocals, Sepalcure might be a more useful reference point: "Yuki-onna", with its sun-drenched chords and bone dry snares, is a prime example. Elsewhere, "Howiloathe" stands out with its deep house-influenced bass and 2-step rhythm, while "Kino" combines pressure cooker atmospherics with mournful vocals and "Maerd" rounds off a fine EP with a shimmering exercise in tension with all the production mastery of his North American peers. Recommended.
