Review: It seems that Julio Bashmore was not a one-off: there must be something in the water down Bristol way and it's resulting in a serious bass epidemic. My Nu Leng are a duo with an amazing futuristic take on house music. "The Grid" is just relentless groove, dark and twitchy with all kinds of sinister effects drifting in and out. "Hips N Thighs" is even more next level, like a weird, twisted booty cut on downers and stranded in a graveyard rave. Under a full moon.

Review: Jay 'Chubba' Richards has been popping up all over the place of late, with recent releases on Sirch and Odea Records. Here, he brings his particular brand of contemporary house and UK funky fusion to Republic. "Moody" - so-called because it features a prominent sample from Kenny Dixon Jnr talking about his MPC - sets the tone, layering tough electronic percussion over a monstrous bassline. "Diamonds" sounds like a fusion of classic UKG and '90s house, while "Broken" feels like the sort of thing that Hypercolour should be signing (think nice chords, tasty vocal stabs and bassline-driven deep house flavour). There's also a tougher, UK funky-flavoured tweak from Vedicis and Vanshift that's well worth a listen.

Review: It's been a long journey for James Edward Jacob, from young thrash metaller in Leicester to aspiring dubstep producer in college, and now hot future bass property. This EP of his own VIP mixes is premier grade stuff, expertly produced and cleverly tweaked for different moods. "Fade" gets three different interpretations here - a club mix that sees big crescendos drop into totally nasty 4/4 garage basslines, a different club mix that goes deeper with soft pads and a retro Enya-goes-RnB vibe, and finally the Etherwood version, all melancholic DnB, forlorn vocals and piano fused with low bass and urgent beats.

Review: With the imminent return of Daft Punk reminding us all of Paris's vibrant electronic music heritage, local label ClekClekBoom pop-up to provide us with a wide-eyed snapshot of the current Parisian underground. There are hints of familiar French staples - the stomping Ed Banger-ish ravery of The Town's "Dice", the classic house flex of Coni's "Missing You Nire" - but for the most part Paris Club Music Volume 1 dances to a different beat. With label regulars French Fries coming to the fore, much of the album is devoted to the sort of hard-to-pigeonhole bass music that takes its influence as much from B-more, R&B and UK garage as filter funk and electro-house.

Review: Swedish duo Savage Skulls have been making some serious noise in bass circles since about 2008. Now they've gone stateside, talking Frenchman Douster with them and signing up with Steve Aoki's Dim Mak label. This EP is unrepentantly aimed at the dancefloor: "Bass Kick" is hysterical, peak time madness with heavily compressed tropical beats and ascending synth melodies, "TRT" is tough party-garage with EDM-friendly trance breakdown and finally "Nicole" is total pop-dance euphoria.

Review: Having already delivered some attention-grabbing techy UKF bombs on Deadplate and Rebirth, Bristol's Ryan Bronfield now finds himself on esteemed imprint Some Think Sounds. In keeping with the label's style, "The Way It Do" is housier: deep and sensual without being boring, and full of quirky, off kilter percussive elements and effects. "We Trapped" is deeper and weirder: sounding like the wheels could fall off this disco bus at anytime, and all the more fun because of it. Damu also remixes the title track in a dark techno fashion that wouldn't be out of place in a vintage DJ Hell set.

Review: Bristol-based Woz has a growing reputation in the bass music scene. Following a recent guest appearance on Mistajam's 1Xtra show, he's now ready to release some more original music (much of his back catalogue comprises remixes). Zylo sets out his stall, pitching him as a producer whose party instincts regularly take priority. There's much energetic dancefloor fare on offer, from the booming basslines, retro bleeps and scratchy breaks of "Fustraightin", to the woozy UK Funky flex of "Reach" and the stabbing bounce of the darting title track. Despite the balls-out nature of his style, there's enough depth to suggest there's more to come in future.

Review: With the energy unleashed by his Pretty Ugly LP still crackling in the atmosphere, DVA drops another EP of technicolour bass mutant business for Hyperdub, delivering seven tracks of mind-bending freshness with a French Fries remix thrown in for good measure. There's some rougher club-ready tackle on offer here such as the abrasive "Do It" with it's hammering drums, but then round the next corner you're plunged into the minimal 4/4 bubble that is "Walk It Out". Really though the lead track "Fly Juice" is the winner with its soulful key licks and hyped up switch for the latter half of the track.

Review: The chart-bothering Surrey siblings Disclosure are back with possibly their best offering yet. Released on the Hot Chip-affiliated Greco-Roman label, "Control" is a superb slice of sultry and soulful minimal garage, with short of breath vocals that echo vintage Janet Jackson. Joe Goddard seriously challenges the glory of the original with a mesmerising doomy, acid-tinged electro-disco version. Bonus tune "Lividup" is an ecstatic bleep-garage joy and there's further fun with "Boiling" being given cosmic trance (Dixon) and mega camp house (Medlar) workovers. Plus "Whats In Your Head" gets a boombox house mix by Mak & Pasteman.

Review: A cursory listen to this EP would easily lead the listener to believe it was made by some underground British bass guy who wears his baseball caps sideways. But they'd be wrong; Klaves is actually 21 year old producer Mikolaj Gramowski from Poland who has pretty much beaten the British producers at their own game: "You" is an awesome blend of late 90s garage and house. "Hope It Gets To Love" is sassy future garage, and our fave is the Fault Lines remix - a slamming house scorcher featuring the kind of thumping kick not head since "Da Funk"!

Review: Having made his debut on Claude Von Stroke's Dirtybird way back in 2005, multi-talented San Fran electro-bass producer Justin Martin makes his full-length debut with this excellent LP. Luckily for fans of last year's excellent, juke-influenced collaboration with Ardalan, "Lezgo", there's a VIP mix included here that makes for a bigger, more building rerub, while Martin also does a great job covering Goldie's seminal "Kemistry" - adding some real venom and bite in the process. Look out for the deep and twisting "Ruff Stuff" and the syrupy "Night Calling" too.

Review: For a new-ish label, Lo Note UK have begun with some hot property on their humble roster: first we had Bristol's My Nu Leng and now its hotly tipped Londoner Boxwork. This eponymous release is one of his first 'proper' ones and he's not holding anything back! It's a calling card to display the breadth of his talents, which he does over four tracks. "Specifics" is like Orbital and X-Press 2's Lazy having a love-in, "Bartom" is tropical bass-meets-juke, "Leak" is deep n dark voodoo-bass and things wrap up with the jazzy shuffle-beats of "You Only". One to watch!

Review: At seven tracks NDread is treating us to a project of near-album proportions here. And with a sound that's becoming as distinctive as it is deep, it's got the alluring flow of an LP, too. The title track ignites proceedings with a skippy two-step and a weave of dreamy washes and textures. Authentically classic yet forward thinking, it sets the scene for the rest of this memorable release. Review: Heralding the start of the newly minted Church imprint, Happa makes a strong case for the buzz he has received with but a smattering of appearances before now. "Beat Of The Drum" is as percussion-centric as you might hope, and what percussion it is. Ostensibly based around a 2-step wiggle, the monolithic hits that fall with deft swing are infallible in their guaranteed dance-levelling power. Throwing Snow takes said beats into a frantic, juked-out territory on his remix, firing off that instantly identifiable jerky rhythm and a considerable tempo jump. "Bring It Back" is a considerable shift in style, as Happa delves into a menacing electro house well, leaving it to Apes & Seb Wildblood to drop a more casual deep house cut.

Review: Straight outta Cardiff, Bodhi is a house-obsessed duo whose particular blend of deep minimal house riff's off the sounds of 90s in a quite discreet way (ok, well apart from remixing Marky Mark & The Funky bunch!). This new EP for Grizzly is full to the brim with personality and ideas. They accurately describe their sound as 'groove bass' - "Culture" features clippty-clop beats and retro piano stabs, while ""Deliquesce" features sparse speed garage-isms and floating synths and vocals. Review: Finland's Top Billin fulfill their New Year resolutions by releasing their now traditional two January compilations. Hot on the heels of their 'Best Of 2012' collection, label co-founder Sir Nenis presents this assortment of bangers that didn't manage to fit on to any particular release last year. Review: Stepping up to the raucous surroundings of Unknown To The Unknown, Palace comes bringing the right kind of bass-laden swagger you expect from this ever-strengthening imprint. "Trust" is a monster, led by a coarse garage drum jive and a b-line cheeky enough to get every wallflower within fifty metres shucking. There's no doubting the instantaneous results this banger will bring, and the remixes are no shirkers either. Matrixxman cools the heat slightly with a mildly stripped variation on the original's driving theme, while the Mista Men opt instead to bring a seriously funky house shuffle to bear on the bin-bothering party antics.

Review: Continuing his productive run of form with R&S off-shoot Apollo, Synkro returns with yet another bumper-sized collection of tracks that show off his ever-enriching talents as a producer of silken, dub infused electronica. Acceptance as a mini-album of sorts is a more resolutely downtempo affair than previous releases, staying firmly in the realm of melancholic passages through blue-hued instrumentation and crystalline beats. There is a sense of experimentation present in the likes of "Disappear" with its lingering guitar strums, while at times he moves away from beats altogether, but this is still very recognisable as the work of Synkro.

Review: With a name like "Piano Loco", you'd expect this latest cross-cultural dancefloor smash from the Man Recordings camp to be full of furious key bashing. It duly delivers, with the original version - a veritable carnival of surging electro bass, buoyant Brazilian drums and twisted electronic noises - boasting some serious Latin piano action. It livens up an already sweaty and intoxicating concoction. The four accompanying remixes shuffle the parts in a variety of inventive ways, with Ackeejuice Rockers' slowed down version and Chong X's cumbia-inspired percussion wonk-out most impressing. That said, there's something particularly sweet about Poirier's surprisingly melodic rework.

Review: With Slick Don riding roughshod, this is an unashamed party joint jacked with all the London swagger you could possibly ask for. Slick comes across like Newham Generals on just a weeny dose of helium. Spitting with a smidgeon of sing, IKK's 4/4 garage riff is the perfect bed for Don's bravado (so perfect it comes with an instrumental). Review: Founded back in 2007, London imprint 2nd Drop has deftly steered its way through the post dubstep fracture across some twenty releases. Arriving at their fifth & a half anniversary, the label offers up a thrilling snapshot of their enduring diversity on their maiden compilation Future Foundations. Familiar label names like Djrum and South London Ordnance offer their atmospherically swung take on dub techno, while label newcomers like Last Magpie and Alex Coulton provide some bouncy, UKG inspired techno. However, it's the frenetic jungle-inspired take on footwaork from Manni Dee and Deft that offers the biggest surprise in what is an already essential compilation.

Review: The latest release from the Glaswegian imprint adds a further sheen of excellence in a year where Numbers has really knuckled down and concentrated on a schedule of multi faceted releases. Such has been the demand for Mosca's debut on the Numbers imprint, the London based producer cheekily took to touting advance DJ copies of Do Me Wrong via Facebook. Both tracks here are fully poised for the floor, priming a throwback Bassline / UK G swing dipped in a nowness from Mosca that's been evident on drops for Night Slugs and Fat City. Unusually, it's the B Side that's garnered the most attention, which is odd as "Done Me Wrong" is excellent, reigning in vintage female hollerations over clipping rhythms, swamping basslines and parping synths that pay homage to the classic "RIP Groove". Flipside, the more celebrated "Bax" is a dual assault on your senses, murky sub bass jabbing at your ribs, whilst the sweet cooing vocals whisper sweet nothings in your ears. All this is underpinned by a skipping mid 90s flex heavy on the neon stabs that has warehouse jam written all over it.

Review: Regular Hyperdubber Ossie comes back with this delectable single of neo-soul goodness on "Ignore", providing the perfect backdrop for Tilz's smooth delivery. In between the bluesy key stabs and whip-cracking drums, there's a perfect mixture of club dynamics and pop sensibilities, seemingly typifying the current tone that Hyperdub seems geared towards. "Find It" lets Ossie off the chain into a purely instrumental cut that gives him full scope to zoom in on those razor-sharp drums and bolster them with further layers, while the musical elements veer between chunky Moog basslines and plucked mandolins, and a whole lot more besides.
