Sheffield based label 2019 Recordings present the latest release form Jerusalem producer Bunny On Acid. "Can't Be Rong" is one of those rare bass productions that strikes the right balance between neon vocal melody and the darker end of 2-step. "Systems Up" is the one that's aimed squarely at the floor though, with piledriver kicks and a tunneling bassline that will really shake up the dance, and a heavy hybrid of Tectonic style dubstep and Boddika's housier tendencies.

French producer Dandaak impresses hugely on this double-tracker from 2019 Recordings, with the fresh ghetto-accent of "Night Breath" providing a bleary-eyed bass killer that's nicely backed by the more kaleidoscopic rave-jazz of "Certified Dine Piece" - a must-hear for fans of anything from Rustie to Surkin.

Review:
Notable for the bulk of greatness on Ramp offshoot Fourth Wave, Gerry Read steps out in style for the 2nd Drop imprint - backed with an equally fine remix from Youandewan. "Roomland" is an expertly crafted excursion through the murkiest depths of techno pressure, all swinging syncopation cutting through the thick viscous layers of bassy atmospherics. It comes across like Anton Zap getting the Modern Love treatment, and it's the little rhythmic deviations and unwillingness to lock into one monotone groove that keep this interesting. Next, Youandewan strips the track of its percussive sheen, replacing the flex with an intricate 2-step rhythm and warbling synth refrains. The overall murky feel remains throughout though.

Review:
Rounding off another strong year for 2nd Drop, this strong pair of remixes come from two producers who also enjoyed plenty of breakthrough success this year. Distal takes on Gerry Read and twists his smudged house into a honed and rapid-fire footwork assault, full of tumbling toms and vocal hooks while the melodic mystery of the original remains. Sully meanwhile steals the show with his reduced garage roller, emphasising the funk and keeping the subby bass swells lean and mean. It's a freaky space his remix inhabits; somewhere near the early days of Horsepower with that addictive whipcrack beat and ambiguous atmosphere.

Review:
Founded back in 2007, London imprint 2nd Drop has deftly steered its way through the post dubstep fracture across some twenty releases. Arriving at their fifth & a half anniversary, the label offers up a thrilling snapshot of their enduring diversity on their maiden compilation Future Foundations. Familiar label names like Djrum and South London Ordnance offer their atmospherically swung take on dub techno, while label newcomers like Last Magpie and Alex Coulton provide some bouncy, UKG inspired techno. However, it's the frenetic jungle-inspired take on footwaork from Manni Dee and Deft that offers the biggest surprise in what is an already essential compilation.

Established progressive producer Tony Thorpe has recruited his favourite UK producers, young and old, for this project that aims to take 'authentic world music atmospheres and give them a sideways twist to create a selection of dance floor killers and chill-out epics". So, here we have 9 tracks inspired by the steady flow of the new world-beat sound coming from the likes of Mala, Debruit, LV and Sango. Si Begg joins Thorpe on the trancey 2-step of "Kongotronic" and the self explanatory "Amazon Acid". Nuphlo provides the dub on "Dusty Path" and broken beats on "Ganges Flow". Also Pempi adds some quirkiness via the bonkers "Broken Robot".

Review:
A killer new double-tracker from Altered Natives, a man currently on outrageously good form following his "Tenement Yard" album, remixes of Ikonika amongst others and some awesome DJ sets to boot. Though he's already got a new album slated for July, these two twisted funky house workers bridge the gap until then. "The Bitch" takes the lead spot and builds on tech kicks with a rough and funky acid bassline, all the while keeping things urgent with old-school 808 fills and some deep atmospherics, in the vein of 3024 label boss Martyn. "Crop Duster" gets on an even more funky, soca-dippin' tip with some urgent hats and claps keeping the tune driving along nicely while a slowly filtered post-dubstep bassline develops underneath. These two are definitely gonna tickle fans of Martyn, Kode9 and Cooly G, and anyone who appreciates some quality, forward looking house period.

Still an artist in relative development, Mosca pops up on 3024 with this choice selection of focused and funky house cuts. "Dom Perignon" draws you in from the off with its choppy groove and subtle break vibe, leaving the melodics to play a more subtle part by inferring the deepness of the track rather than spelling it out. "Orange Jack" keeps the same linear, floor-ready presence but lightens the mood with a string stab and a maddening vocal loop, leaving it to "Jager" to cause the serious damage with a technoid workout that could end up in some quite unexpected record bags.

Two mesmerising future-garage bangers, with "Style" leading off with some lively drums and epic sweeps of synth strings, coupled with some subtle D&B-style bass hits in the background. "Take My Thoughts" almost sounds like a part two, continuing where "Style" left off with some dreamy pads keeping your head firmly in the clouds. Fresh, funky and startlingly ethereal stuff.

Four To The Floor have been blazing a trail of future-garage destruction over the last few years, building up a solid regular roster in the process. Here's a killer round up of what their acts are currently up to. In the case of 8th-Ski, quite a bit: 60s kitsch lounge finely cut with some feisty breaks on "Jazzy Style", melancholic UKF on "Makes Me Wonder" and euphoric retro house on "On Me". Solution is currently all about slammin' speed garage, while Aleks Zen ends things with the celebratory sax-house vibes of "Let You Know".

Review:
An emerging talent on London's garage scene, Prescribe Da Vibe drops two truly delightful new tunes on this new EP. "Such A Thing" is a warm, soulful mix of 70s Philly samples married to an itchy, old-skool jacking garage beat, while "Hear Me Out" is a Todd Edwards-esque beauty, complete with phased bass hits and scrambled vocal shots that comes together brilliantly to once again add some much-needed soul to UKG.
