Review: Having headed up the My Style mix and compilation before, Dub Police label boss hands the reigns over to D1, who provides us with a run down of what's hot in dubstep in 2011. Picking out some runaway classics of the year - cuts such as Redlight's enormous "Source 16" with its thunderous, elastic band bassline and booty shaking appeal, Caspa's ode to the underground "Fulham 2 Waterloo" and the bleepy, synth soaring "Turn Me On" from Subscape, which draws the album to a close - alongside some of his own material, it's an on point selection. Review: With the lead track on this EP, "Turn Around", sporting crooning tones from Luke Lowen, it seems like D3adl1ne has a clear sight on breaking through to mass appeal. In the delicate UK Funky framework and drive-time vocals of the track there is a lot of potential for crossover, but the EP doesn't stop there. "Eee" for example plies a definite trade in dub techno dynamics amidst shuffling 2-step beats, while "Everybody" comes from the Joy Orbison school of melancholia in contemporary electronic music. Light, melodic and instantly accessible; D3adl1ne should win over many a fan with his crisp, clean beats.

Review: The original version of "Turn Around" - a rare outing for the oddly-titled D3adl1ne and vocalist Luke Owen - is impressively soulful, a bleep-and-click heavy chunk of dewy-eyed UK funky that benefits greatly from Lowen's casual but emotion-laden vocal delivery. There's a quartet of remixes to explore, with DJ SKT leading the way with a aprase two-step version that makes great use of the original's 8-bit bleeps. Tremorfire Dubz inject some energy via a heavyweight 4/4 groove and tropical riffery, while Solution go all Todd Edwards on their Dub remix. The final version, from Shea D Stedford, mixes skittish jungle rhythms with extended breakdowns.

Review: In just over a year, Unknown to the Unknown have gone from humble beginnings to releasing material from Detroit legend DJ Stingray, Chicago heat from Marcus Mixx and Alias G, the rudest bassline garage from DJ Q and tracks from up and comers Slackk, Nightwave and Mista Men. But the genesis of the label can be traced back to a YouTube channel known as "DaAutopsy", where Hot City's DJ Haus still posts forthcoming UTTU hype and old vinyl rips to this day. Now the channel has taken on a life of its own, and spewed forth "Tear Tha Fuckin' Club Up!". Undoubtedly the hardest hitting UTTU joint to date, incandescent rave stabs go toe to toe with Baltimore club styles, creating a beast of a club track that resembles a Frankenstein's monster of the YouTube generation. Review: Ever prolific Swiss producer Dachshund slides on over to Highgrade to release his debut album, and it's an exuberant celebration of groove across all sorts of tempos and patterns. There's a largely house feel to the majority of the tracks, but this is house as expressed from a rich palette of sounds. Every jam fidgets and twitches with the need to keep things interesting, throwing inspired new elements into the mix at every turn without ever over-egging the point. A title like "Eleven Riddims" sells short the fact that here, Dachshund has crafted a whole spread of fully-realised songs, whether they have rhythm or not.

Review: After breaking through in 2011 with releases for Keysound and Local Action, Damu has had a relatively quiet 12 months, focusing on collaborating with vocalists and refocusing his production efforts on a sterner, tougher, darker sound. As part of this, he has started a new eponymous imprint on which to release his productions, the first of which are presented here. "If You've Got Nothing To Hide" keeps the iridescent sheen of his earlier material, but constructs something altogether darker out of it, creating a thick bass style that is reminiscent of Boddika's electro excursions with an added helping of Eski grime, while "You've Got Nothing To Fear" throws ghetto vocals into its gelatinous mix of acid and brittle arpeggios.

Review: Blazing a promising trail with his neon-lit funky styles, Damu delivers this four track selection to Keysound with an undeniable effervescence in his demeanour. The synths are surely the key players in these tracks, not least on the upbeat clarion call of "Ridin". Anyone who caught the sunkissed charms of the Oriol album on Planet Mu will find plenty of melodic satisfaction to enjoy here, albeit in a more steppy setting. As the EP progresses the weirdness creeps in, culminating to a brilliant end with the unhinged pitch-bending of "Karolina's Magic J", which will definitely appeal to your inner freak.

Review: With two EPs on Local Action and Keysound already under his belt, Damu here delivers his debut long player for the latter imprint. As you would expect from a label as on point as Keysound, Damu brings something unique to the table with his brand of UK funky, combining expertly sampled R&B vocals and neon synths. But it's the after-hours vibe and organic rhythms that permeate his productions which really stands out, particularly in the complex and shimmering melodies of "Breathless" and piercing melancholy of "Don't Cry In My Bed". Most impressively however, is the range of genres and tempos which Damu turns his hand to; "Maths Is Fine for Some" evokes the swampy techno of Andy Stott, whilst "Waterfall of Light" and "Plasm" call to mind the freeform juke template of Machinedrum. Essential stuff.

Review: Cool Kid Music return with another silky collection of bass tracks, this time from rising talent Danglo. "Introverse" slows things right down, with a beat that is somewhere between R&B and downtempo deep house, nevertheless filling the gaps with crafty UKF snares, billowing synths and expertly treated vocals. "Liar Liar" offers a similarly relaxed cut, combining elastic Jacques Greene style synths with complex percussion.
