Review:
Lover of all things juke, Chicago's Chrissy Murderbot has plenty to say on the subject and he makes his feelings well known on this latest joint for Halocyan records. "Bionic Penguins" kicks things off with a plush and melodic juke chop up that moves through sophisticated chord progressions for the arpgeggiator to roam around in, while "Friendship" goes down a slightly darker route peppered with hefty amounts of bleep. Sumsun turns "Bionic Penguins" into an emotionally strained UK Funky joint, leaving it to Legowelt to create a serene funk of robotic melodics with lashings of acid and some serious Balearic sass.

Review:
A Chicago native who's been slowly extolling the virtues of juke music over the last few years, Chrissy Murderbot's Women's Studies release dovetails perfectly with Planet Mu's growing interest in footwerk and juke. However despite the creepy, detuned footwerk opener "Break U Off", it's hard to categorise this excellent album. Jammin Gerald and DJ Funk influences combine with a sped-up sample of Dayton's "The Sound Of Music" on single "Bussin Down", while crunk rhymes appear on "Bump Uglies" and there's Major Lazer-esque tropi-pop on "Pelvic Floor" too. Old-school Planet Mu fans will also get a kick out of the furious "Jiggle" - just another strand of this fascinatingly diverse album.

Review:
The fledgling Cool Kid Music return with the debut release from the promising David Marston. "What We've Got" is the perfect track for the dying days of summer, filled with minimal garage beats, smooth melodies and vocals that have been shattered into a thousand glassy pieces. "Top Off" is the real killer though, a smooth piece of rubbery future soul with an R&B sensibility that recalls the devastating jams of Jacques Greene rolled into an unexpectedly threadbare sensibility.

Des McMahon is a bass producer from Philadelphia who is currently setting things ablaze in the US right now. This new autobiographical EP from the self-proclaimed "ginger beat wizard" boasts five original productions that are sure to boost his current ascent even further. "Gringo Juice" is big-room stuff - a chunky moombahton riddim with hysteria-inducing melodies, an absolutely bonkers breakdown and even some cheeky, "Good Life" stabs. Other highlights include the trancier "Albino Ass Slap", the spaced-out dubstep of "Hallucinations" and Rex Riot's unique take on the blissed out "The Come Down".

Review:
Jonny Megabyte provides a unique and exciting three-track EP on Juke Trax. "Thank You" gets the party started with a flurry of cheering and some stuttering beats, with an upbeat kick, and continues for its two and a half minute duration with considerable pace and swing. Next is the title track "Old School Down" with its cooing vocal, snapping beats and old skool piano chords, adding another dose of style to the piece. Concluding the EP is "Cocaine" with its chopped up, reverberating vocals and gentle, ticking beats.

Review:
Having made his debut on Claude Von Stroke's Dirtybird way back in 2005, multi-talented San Fran electro-bass producer Justin Martin makes his full-length debut with this excellent LP. Luckily for fans of last year's excellent, juke-influenced collaboration with Ardalan, "Lezgo", there's a VIP mix included here that makes for a bigger, more building rerub, while Martin also does a great job covering Goldie's seminal "Kemistry" - adding some real venom and bite in the process. Look out for the deep and twisting "Ruff Stuff" and the syrupy "Night Calling" too.

LISA MAFFIA feat ROMEO/TYLER DALEY

Review:
A return after seemingly ages away from the studio, former So Solid Crew mainstay and garage star Lisa Maffia teams up with former cohort Romeo and Manchester's Tyler Daley on this return to form. A mix of soulful R&B vocals and busy, club-rocking synths make the original a poppy 2-step winner, while Bmore pioneer Scottie B adds a ghetto swing on his mix. The star though is Oxide's fierce, take-no-prisoners rerub which a lean and gloriously old-skool mix of orchestral basslines and tuff snares.

Review:
A new release on Whistla's very fine L2S label, "Infinity Complex" sees M2J moving further away from dubstep and into futuristic garage territory with the wide-eyed braindance of "Infinity Complex" leading off with some gentle atmospherics vibing up against tough D&B-style kicks and snares. "Mr Sneak" is just as good - a sharp, glitched-out 2-step jam with plenty of delicate background harmonies to keep you tripping the whole way through.
