Review: Former L2S player and MJ Cole remixer Duncan Powell rejigs his 2009 banger "Brake" on this new release from Unknown To The Unknown. The original - previously known and loved from Hot City's Fact mix of the same year - is included here thankfully and still shines thanks to its ultra-funky minimal garage motifs and catchy-as-hell chiming melody. The 2012 mix however throws some real fire at the tune - adding thicker kicks and some deeper sub bass whilst still keeping the rude funk locked in.

Review: Savage Skulls' Carli and fellow Swede Marcus Price team up again following their previous smash on Palms Out, "Mat Bira Kvinnor Weed", with the equally crazed "Bubbelgum". With a mix of B-more bareness and Swedish weirdness, it's a genius slice of modern bass with some incredible vocal effects layered over the tropical beats. Club Cheval's Sam Tiba strips things down nicely, while Carli himself delivers a speed-garage homage mix that seriously bangs hard. With another new tune, "JEXPERT!" and a dark, crunky L-Wiz mix of their first single also included, this is a must-have for fans of well-crafted, contemporary bass madness.

Review: A Venezuelan take on ghostly bass music and UK funky from Pacheko, whose Caracas roots give this set of new tunes on Shockout a real edge. While "Every Day" starts of ominously, it soon works in carioca-style cowbell hits and proceeds to develop a melancholic funk all of its own. The title tune (featuring frequent collaborator Pocz) flits between rolling Ramadanman-style 808 snares and a trancey 4/4 synth line, while "Waiting For You" is pure haunted tropical brilliance, with some incredible vocal shots thrown in to really ignite the beats. Following releases on Enchufada and Senseless, this might be Pacheko's best so far.

Review: Stepping up to the raucous surroundings of Unknown To The Unknown, Palace comes bringing the right kind of bass-laden swagger you expect from this ever-strengthening imprint. "Trust" is a monster, led by a coarse garage drum jive and a b-line cheeky enough to get every wallflower within fifty metres shucking. There's no doubting the instantaneous results this banger will bring, and the remixes are no shirkers either. Matrixxman cools the heat slightly with a mildly stripped variation on the original's driving theme, while the Mista Men opt instead to bring a seriously funky house shuffle to bear on the bin-bothering party antics.

Review: Pale is a young Manchester producer who by day goes by the less exotic moniker of Leo Marcus. The exoticisms stay in the music though, with "Catacombs" being a widescreen vision of a thing that begins with deep beats before expanding into a multi-layered, glacial soundscape. "Oak Music' features an intense, pulsating techno bassline wrapped in ghostly chimes, before the pace mellows with the downtempo funk of "Orchidea".

Review: A wonderfully ethereal release here from teenage producer Pale. The Yearn EP, released on the Bullet Train label, opens with the richly melodic title track, in which a sparse yet richly melodic soundscape similar to The xx's excellent "Intro" is created. "Those Ships", up next, is a more joyous affair, with uplifting tampered vocals and all manner of intricate post-dubstep atmospherics. Final track "Ghosts" is easily our favourite - the vocal elements shine brightest, the beat is stripped back and the overall sensation is heavenly. One for fans of Mount Kimbie, Four Tet and James Blake.

Review: With his second release of the week, Paleface gets busy on a bassline groove for "Spinning Around" - an incredibly fun tune featuring Chyna Whyne on vocals that doesn't take things too seriously. Sporting a jaunty melody that almost sounds like a wonky, sped-up version of Euro pop, "Spinning Around" is enormously catchy, and thanks to its 130+bpm tempo, a guaranteed floor filler as well.

Review: Not to be confused with the Parisian indie band of the same name, this Panda is a hotly-tipped bass trio from the UK. Not much is known about them other than their few releases have already garnered support from the likes of Groove Armada and MJ Cole. Not a bad start indeed, so with the music left to do the talking let's hear what it has to say: "Foolish" is cool and crystalline house music disguised as warped 90s RnB with a catchy pitched (up, down and sideways!) vocal. "All That I Can Give" keeps the soulful vocals but is a more straight up garagey house number that boasts plenty of swishes and light key stabs.

Review: Adam Scrimshire's Wah Wah 45s label is lots of things to lots of people.
