Review: Much like squashing a fly with a sledgehammer, Sheffield's Project Allout, counter Bristol's bass supremacy with this mammoth compilation. Yes, the second instalment in their eponymous series boasts a frankly absurd 39 new fresh bass cuts. It may take a while to get through it all, but that's half the fun. Inititial highlights include the speedy claps, fizzy hats and taut wobble vibes of "Manners" by 1Thirty, the horror move trap thrills of "Black Missile" by "Familiar Face" and the voluptuous house bass of Mooney's "At The Top".

Review: TMSV specialises in all things bass-related, an artist who is capable of producing pretty much any sort of dance music that travels at the speed of sound and drags frequencies lower than the underground itself. The Artikal casual lands on Tumble Audio with this monster of an EP, filed with dubwise dread throughout, and that manages to wield an impressive amount of jungle out of its more dubstep-centric beats; "Expensive Suit" is a good example of that, but even "Nuh Tek Diss" has enough break-ridden charm to please all sorts of corner-dwelling head-nodders. A bodacious selection of remixes from the likes of Archive, Murder He Wrote and Hypho add to the nastiness, and make this one hell of an EP.

Review: Sheffield's Project Allout don't mess about, having developed a reputation for championing all directions in the ways of bass. Every take on that three letter word is important to this label and that's why they cram so many hot jams onto their comps. Basically they're the Ferrero Rocher am-bass-adors and they are really spoiling us with 49(!) lengerz. Highlights include AT's bleepy 8-bit hip-hop groove "Flash Bang", the epic, symphonic trap of Dubzta's "Lord Of War" and the almost disco tech grooves of "Murkers' by King Hydra. All killer, no filler!

Review: It's been a year since Slime's second instalment of their leading compilation Future Sound Of Garage series. Now the follow-up has finally arrived boasting 28 examples of what they to be consider music of the future. There are too many to name, but highlights include the ethereal and sensual future-step opener "Return" by Monoblue, the seductive, delicate chimes of the shimmering "Ever Feel" by Just Breathe, the sparse and raw 2-step of Pavv's "Let It Go" and even the uber commercial Ibiza-friendly anthem "Stone" by Project X is a (guilty) pleasure.

Review: Originally known as one half of UKG/UK funky/house fusionists Cause & Effect, Chris Lorenzo has decided to venture out on his own for debut album, Destroy The Image. The Birmingham-based producer is known for his love of collaborating and over the 14 tracks here we encounter hook ups with Alex Mills, DJ Zinc and Sam Nicolosi. Highlights include the creeped-out techno mantra of "Come Down", the radio-friendly EDM anthem, "We Are" and the dirty tropical baile attack, "Bad Bitch".

Review: Pelikann (aka Jack MackMersh) is a West Midlands producer who is currently taking the UK's bass scene on an epic journey via his fearless genre-hopping approach. This, his latest release on Saucy, boasts three originals and some remixes too. The title track is mega hyped ghetto breaks with super melodic synthy fizz, "Badboy Sound" is all about the relentless subby fuzz-stabs (given a demented percussive makeover by Affiliate) and "Calm It" incorporates a nasty bass hum into a breaky bounce-a-thon. Rho reworks the latter into a super-fast DnB jam whilst "Spectre" becomes a jungle snarler thanks to Data 3.

Review: Wise words from Dread MC, even wiser beats from Bristol's Notion & Young H. Chunky 4x4 garage with strong house tendencies thrown into the mix, "Money & Drugs" is an all-out dancefloor riot with catchy vocals, a deadly second drop and enough energy to charge a whole fleet of electric cars. For added screwface appeal jump on Killjoy's Birmingham-sounding remix where the bassline is twisted up just a few additional notches for added mischief. Blurry.

Review: There's all kinds of posh nosh in the world but sometimes nothing hits that spot like a good old chip butty. The label of same name serve up similar musical carbo concoctions all the time. Here though they enter the arena of Chips N Gravy (well, the musical equivalent). As a six-track split EP with three tracks each, the best of Sammy Virji's offerings include the sheer jump up hedonism of "Do Me A Favour" and the skippy 4x 4 mayhem of "Oh My". Dr Cryptic's highlights include the diva house influenced chaos of "Bubbles" and the compressed fizzy madness of "Clown Hunter".

Review: Back in June (2016), we were raving about Mind Of A Dragon's sensibility to the early 2000's garage era and, while that might have seemed as if we were exaggerating, it is clear that the mysterious producer truly understands that formula. He's back on Soul Revolution with "U N Me", a tune that could easily sound as if it was made by someone like Persian back in the day, but that in reality has been conceived late in 2016. With a rebellious streak, Mind Of A Dragon takes no consideration for contemporary trends, and instead delivers a highly riveting garage infusion for the heads. The remix by Mike Millrain and Mick James scraps the garage drums and chucks in a few house swings, but it still sounds deliciously vintage

Review: Hailing from Edinburgh, Blackboxxx got his first break with the mighty Slime label. Since his debut, Sayonara, he's progressed and honed his sound, resulting in this smart new offering, Adonis, on NM Recordings. The title track is a warm slice of future 2-step, complete with dreamy atmospherics, distant RnB vocals and some deep sub warbles. "Link Up" goes even further into luxurious MJ Cole-style vibes for a truly slick ride. Moony also remixes the former into some filthy hardcore nastiness, with bouncy breaks mayhem by Cellardore and smooth late night vibes Courtesy of Doctor Nick.

Review: You could never accuse UrbanWorld of delivering compilations with confusing titles. You see, Global Bass Vol 3 delivers exactly what you'd expect - a kaleidoscopic collection of bass music flavours from around the world. There's humming Brazilian beats (Los Chicos Altos), funk-infused tango-step (Superpendejos), middle eastern shuffle (Silver Bullit), dubwise African hip-hop/breaks (Jalan Surabaya), Brazilian/Arabic B-more fusions (Pops Jabu) and wizened South American cumbia (Agencia Sonoria). Oh, and loads more besides. Whether or not you usually check out "world music", this is well worth further investigation.

Review: Second To None Music have chosen the right name for their label. These guys should not be underestimated, and their output is among the best UK bass, garage and funky that we have heard recently. This statement compilation is simply putting them on a lot of people's radars, and getting the to know that absolutely nobody at their HQ is messing around when it comes to relaxing fresh bangers for the UK's dance floors. The music is wild and diverse, ranging from pure bassline to UK funky, and there are certainly plenty of noticeable artists and known faces here, including neb-dancehall specialist Deadbeat, Mikey B, B Squared, and Hypho. If you're into the British way of doing house, then this twist up will surely satisfy.

Review: Hot Bristol duo Bill Francis & Lewis Darvill are Kry Wolf. who've released previously on Sounds Of Sumo and Palms Out Sounds. My Nu Leng are another up and cming local duo who have appeared on Black Butter Records and MTA Records. If that wasn't enough, the duos also enlist the vocal talents of one Kiko Bun; an original rudeboy from London. Now you may be hinking there's too many cooks in the kitchen but you'd be sadly mistaken! This pitched down and deconstructed take on modern jungliest sounds is pure fire. Rumbling sub bass, choppy amen breaks combined with Bun's convining dub stylin' vocals are the bomb right here.

Review: We have waited a very long time for new music from Bristolian bass ruler, Pharoah K. Well now he's opened up the tomb and unleashed a new EP. There's only two tracks mind, but they're good 'uns. With both cuts displaying a tremendous skill for island-style percussion, the EP's title track, "Bora" is the softer of the two. Seductive and beguiling, the rhythmical sways of the tune are an exercise is sassy swagger. "Tusk" meanwhile, is all bout the elephantine hip-hop, an angry, brassy snorter. Glad this ancient king has been resurrected.

Review: Officially the funkiest man to emerge from dubstep, Swindle shows his sporting side with a precision-timed Latin EP. "Connecta" will draw you in with its samba drums, arresting your senses with honeyed vocals, firing horns and climactic build. "Copacabana" dons its budgie smugglers for a Rio-riddled jungle stepper while "Villa Mimosa" takes us back to Swindle's darker side with a beat that somehow rolls and steps with its instance percussion and mischievously off-kilter halfsteps. Finally DJ Q shuts the party down with his trademark twisted garage stamps. Gold medals all round.

This is because it deals in just about any strain of British dance music, and from garage, through to dubstep, and post-bass, it always delivers the goods in style. This time it's Archive with five smoking riddims from the depths of underground, and "Keep Guard", along with "Ghana Police" are what you would call true hybrids - the beats are harsh and stepping, while the low frequencies dominate the groove. "Gully", once again, proves that 'bass' music really is a thing by chucking in just about any genre imaginable that falls on the hardcore continuum, and there's even a few remixes of "Keep Guard", one stripped-down Burial-like reinterpretation by Bromley, and heavy-stepping version by Sly-one.

Review: Inspired by the lack of pigeonholing in today's bassline scene, the much respected Low Pitched have rustled up their first album, Low Pitched Presents: Resonate, which aims to capture this aforementioned musical diversity. They haven't held back either, packing a whopping 23 new jams on this album, truly laying claim to having all bases covered. Highlights include the juddering low-end juggernaut "Patterns" by Clexx, the crisp, floating in space 2-stepper "Rowdy" and the truly next level, otherworldly rhythms of "Swedger" by Sketchman. A snapshot of a scene in full bloom.

Review: Formerly known as Magistrate, this artist has now adopted the Talkre moniker to promote an altogether darker proposition. The Conflicts EP boast three choice cuts, each with their own angles on bass: the title track is laced in gothic synths, doom vocals and morbid DnB influenced drum patterns. Elsewhere "Afraid" explores nasty, techno infused breaks and "New Order" wraps things up nicely with its bouncy blend of big beat and garage beats.

Review: It's kinda crazy to look back and see just how much music the Night Bass label put out between 2015 and the beginning of 2017. It's an unfathomable amount of releases for such a young label and, the thing is, it's all pretty damn hot, too! Jack Beats is the project from Niall Dailly and Ben Griffin, who are back with the second landing of the Body Work series, and kicking things off with a bit of a gangsta flex thanks to "The Lean", a cold-hearted London bombshell propelled into motion by some dutty grime vocals, and a menacing groove. "Formula3000" brings in Taiki Nulight for a bigger, badder flow of break-ridden, bass filth - just the sort we vibe to.

Review: Having already gained interest from some compilation appearances, the Unmade EP is actually the first release proper from this San Francisco outfit. Night Bass have to really trust an artist to put out their records and thankfully 219 Boys don't let them down. There are three spacey and imaginative takes on bass music here, starting with the cheeky Les Grossman-sampling melodic house opener "FYOF". Next is "Unmake" which is a slinky slice of sauntering tech-funk, before "Risk" drives things harder bringing some heavy underground vibes into the mix.

Review: SMOAD - a brand new allegiance between two New Movement regulars Smokey Bubblin' B and Mind Of A Dragon. Together they've fused their sounds to create two wickedly contrasting pieces of UKG. "Mess Around" is all badboy breakbeat brockage a la Special Request while "Only One" is a beautifully loopy 4x4 chugger with all the right soulful elements. Remix-wise Celladore gets busy on a Rico Tubbs style 135 stomping bass house bash-up while DJD powers up with a naughty pair of northern strutters that wouldn't go amiss in a TQD bar fight.

Review: Thanks to a string of release for Project Allout, In:Flux Audio, and U Wot Blud, Brighton bass boy PAVV has grown steadily over the last two years. While we were used to see him appearing on collaborative releases, he has now gained enough trust as to appear solo, and the Vex label have done the right thing by putting out these three solid bass steppers. "Don't Say" is a delightful, pseudo garage number with plenty of musical tonalities, while "Fall Down" uses the same swinging half-steps to deliver more of a classic dubstep framework, and "Control" ups the ante with a glitchy 4/4 groove amid a sea of bleeping synth melodies.

Review: What Dr Oetker is to frozen pizzas, Dr Oscillator is to naughty potty-mouthed bassline music: tasty. Making his debut at Michelin starred bass restaurant Project Allout, chef Oscillator has cooked his most scrumptious bangers... "The Taxman" skanks with iced-out low end menace, "Hostile" hits with more drama than a year of Eastenders while "Chicken & Gravy" closes on a scrum-diddly-umptious two-step flex where subs flutter and keys ripple with a jazzy sexiness. Yum.

Review: Thirty Three nuggets of serious UKG gullyness; Project Allout have already developed a serious reputation for generous dispatches, but this is whole new level. Uniting their many lengmen for a deep exploration of the pastures between bassline house, instrumental grime and the broader realms of bass music, every area is covered. Highlights include the eski angst of Chemist RNS' "Stare", the violin-snapping, post-dubstep darkness of Deadbeat UK's "Graveyard", the outrageous VIP muscles of Hoax and Dubzta's "Twilight Zone" and the sassy vocal flexery of Pavv's "You Got Me". This is just the tip of the bassline iceberg, though. Dig deep and grab your own lenger; there are enough here for everyone.

Review: Midlands bass hero Tuff Culture likes to challenge the expectations of what the genre should sound like, and for his latest missive he's looked to 1980s cop show Miami vice for inspiration. However he's stayed with a very UK sound for the EP. The title track marries Ocean Drive synth pads and bleepy melodies with a bit of rough edged bass. "Need Me" is messy UKG with punchy snares and cut-up loops and "Wanna Be' ends with a hard and heavy 4 x 4 slammer. Moony also appears to give the title track a deliciously deep 2-step makeover too.

Review: Powerful sonic slappage from Brighton badman Jook. Sitting somewhere between grime, dubstep and tech funk, all three cuts live to up the Certified Banger status. "Lean Back" is all about the tightly cut stabs that wrap themselves around the stop/start kicks and snares, "Alarmed" is all about the wobbles and is just waiting for a fiery flow of MC damage while "Lucy" shows us Jook's softer, star-gazing side thanks to velvet arpeggios and some really interesting sample textures buried deep among the beats.

Review: X5 Dubs is one of the few producers out there who is still crafting the garage trade like it's 1999. He does, however, also like to inject a little contemporary bass wonder to his tunes, most notably in the form of traditional dubstep 'wobble'. "Runnin" is the perfect example of this, a swining garage lick with a mean, growling low-end that is easily comparable to the very best of the legendary FWD days at Plastic People. There's a remix by 4X4 Intro, this time taking that same groove to a more traditional house framework, and also by Myka Rose, who decides to strip that bass back and deliver an unadulterated garage classic that takes us way back.

There a fine artillery of remixers who all twist and mangle the original up in fine style: Notion, Moony, Dubzta, and Trends all deliver the goods, the latter being particularly impressive with his grime reinterpretation. Fireee!

The unstoppable collective is always full of tricks up their sleeves, and this Selection Box compilation is exactly the sort of thing we wanted to hear from them; a rough and packed collection of their best and most definitive moments of last year. From pseudo jungle, weird, amorphic dubstep, and killer speed-house, there isn't much that sounds wring with this release, and even the most demanding of bass-heads are likely to find something that they'll churn out week after week, floor after floor.

Review: Whether it be house, tech-minded house, or house-leaning bass excursions, the Artifice label have impressed us with their recent run of form. This is, in part, because they've managed to surface new talents out of thin air; this new EP by newcomer Squane is exactly what we've come to expect from these guys, and it ticks all the boxes in terms of sonic diversity. "Totemic" is a pounding, tribalistic drum-dance that stands alone and untested, a true club shaker that'll get the head-nodders moving. "Affliction" is more on the dubstep end of things, and delivers a fine tech-house groove. The former is remixed by Troy Gunner into a slow, shape-shifting mutant of a track, while Hypho revamps the latter by stripping it down entirely, and adding in a burst of juke percussion for good measure.

Review: NM Recordings is a collective of bass heavyweights including the Slime crew, Maxxi and Mind Of A Dragon to name but a few. The thing all these guys have in common is a desire to push things forward, 'things' being UKG. Here on "Hot Air" Doctor Nick prescribes a heavy dosage of warm, synthetic nostalgia (think Ayia Napa, circa 2000) with oodles of smooth pads, crisp 2-step beats and watery melodies. Remix-wise Cellardore adds a more attitude-heavy bassline and evocative sound FX, Wolfe, pitches everything up for a naughty wobble-fest whilst Jepadee closes with some neatly atmospheric UKF.

Review: South Royston are a UK duo who have already released on labels like Ministry and MadTech. They've been working on a new collaboration with the mighty Skapes and "Sound Of Our Soul" has been hyped on Lowsteppa's Rinse FM show. Now we get a chance to own this beast of a tune, all rolling low-end rumbles, hissy hi-hats and skippy drums, ourselves. Remix-wise Golf Clap up the toughness for a stern garage thumper, Mad Villains get deep and soulful for their stoner mix and Fish delivers the most interesting mix here - a leftfield ghetto jam with brooding carnival rhythms.

Review: Veteran UK producer EL-B had taken a sabbatical from garage, but has recently set about producing a 21st century take on the style. Hooking up with likeminded Birmingham label 40Forty, we now have the Attitude EP in our proverbial hands. The EP boasts four bleeding edge cuts, the first of which, "What you Mean To Me" riffs heavily on the classic 2-step sound with diva style vocals. Elsewhere, "Erase My Mind" is thumping, raw underground garage, "Down With The Programme' is a soulful, choppy, leftfield cut and "Attitude" is a upbeat party joint that samples Colonel Abrahams!

Review: This new EP from Birmingham's bass bastion Bassboy sees him leap artistically from his early days of RnB cut-ups. He's been pushing his sound more towards an off-kilter garage sound of late, though here things begin brightly with "Rainbows" - an infectious fusion of fizzy garage-pop and brutal bottom end. However elsewhere the perky "Colours" benefits from some heavy tribal thump and "Once Upon A Time" is an orgy of nasty 4x4 and 90s vocal snippets and pads aplenty. DJ Direct also appears to add some serious muscle to the title track too.
