Fak Off (Grande remix) - (3:50) 63 BPM
from $1.49
Review: The UK's Pelikann glides mightily high on the nu-dubstep waves these days, and he's landed firmly on the Saucy clan's catalogue with a fluttering blend of percussion-driven squelchers. "Wolf" is a sludgy, four-to-the-floor monster with plenty of wobbles and grizzly low-ends, and backed by Hywel's more stripped-back version. "Hear Me" is, of course, dark and menacing, and filled with horsepower, but the groove is leaner than its predecessor, leaving the club slashings up to the remixer, Distro. The aptly named "Fak Off" ties things off with deep bursts of power drums and bass stabs, followed by Grande's housier version of the original. Mean.

Review: Thirty Three nuggets of serious UKG gullyness; Project Allout have already developed a serious reputation for generous dispatches, but this is whole new level. Uniting their many lengmen for a deep exploration of the pastures between bassline house, instrumental grime and the broader realms of bass music, every area is covered. Highlights include the eski angst of Chemist RNS' "Stare", the violin-snapping, post-dubstep darkness of Deadbeat UK's "Graveyard", the outrageous VIP muscles of Hoax and Dubzta's "Twilight Zone" and the sassy vocal flexery of Pavv's "You Got Me". This is just the tip of the bassline iceberg, though. Dig deep and grab your own lenger; there are enough here for everyone.

Review: UK operation Saucy Record return with a swiftly compiled second volume of Saucy Selections featuring a healthy 17 cuts of Tech, Bass, House and Garage from the international community. Label regulars like Libra (UK), Melod!k, and Spekktrum brush up against Saucy newcomers and there's a pleasant array of styles and sounds to be found within this selection, moving from sultry cuts such as opener "Had Enough" by Chris Skapetis to tougher and rougher bassline movers. Grande's "NOS" playfully toys around the Club Constructions approach to dancefloor tools, whilst Spekktrum is on aggro form with compilation highlight "The Game".

Tumblin (feat Tigerlight) - (5:31) 125 BPM Biggest-selling track on this release
from $1.49
Review: Serious talk: Skapes returns to the Stanton Warriors' Punks imprint for another full-spectrum EP. "Serious" sees him team up with serial collaborator Jamie George (a songwriter previously spotted with the likes of Roska and Chris Lorenzo) for a choppy 4/4 speed garage style roller. Deeper into the release we play air trumpet on the clattering, speaker shattering "Hear Me Now", we strut like it's 1997 all over again on "Get On Up" before getting pummelled by deep squid bass on "Tumblin". Proof that Punks know their four-to-the-floor just as well as they know their fractured funk, Skapes has created a winningly fresh document right here.

Review: With the summer just starting to show face, it's about time Hot Cakes' main man Deekline rolled up to deliver one of his sunniest efforts in years. Teaming up with the mighty Tippa Irie, get ready for a slice of reggae-infused jungle, perfect for some laid-back listening. Voltage and Nicky Blackmarket get their mitts on it too with their darkened remix, with breaks eking out every bit of attitude from that sunny facade. We knew there was some badness in there somewhere. Lastly, get ready for a Speed Garage remix, taking tips from the old school in a big way as the sound of UKG reigns supreme once again.

from $1.49
Review: Midlands-based bass hero Tuff Culture has appeared on a variety of labels but keeps returning to the one he calls home, Project Allout. This time he's rustled up three more sizzling takes on all things bass. "Destiny" kicks things off by fusing piano house with gritty basement 4/4 beats, and "Questions' sees blissed-out synths blended with urban vocal samples and intricate orchestration. Finally "There's No Comin Back" expertly marries a jazzier, mellower vibe with percolating bass growls.

Review: Flinging double negatives like a clown hurls custard pies, AC Slater builds on Night Bass's generous debut release with his second full-fat EP of the year. With a sound and attitude that's been cemented into the bass scene psyche for a decade, you know what to expect from him: BS-free floor-fire with added humour... And that's exactly what we get. "The Chirp" is a Dirtybird-level jacker, "Skywalker OG" taps deeper into the classic house roots with an air of late 90s Van Helden, "Waterverb" flips the trap bird before dropping into some seriously silky 4/4 wobble while "Not No Love Song" vibes with classic rave synths and a speed garage style drop that's not, not, amazing.

Review: Formula's F2 off-shoot follows up PVC's grimey debut with two show-stopping UKG cuts from the fast-rising Tuff Culture. "It Could Be" treads a fine line between sexy and sassy with its polished keys and honeyed vocal sample and utter filth with its growling bassline. "Close", meanwhile, goes on a My Nu Leng flex with strutting 4/4 drums and an array of ghostly bass tones. Gutter business.

Never Forget - (5:26) 86 BPM
from $1.49
Review: First introduced to the world via Roska's Kicks And Snares label last year, Bristol type Distro has since gravitated towards Brighton and the South Coast's bass evangelists 877. The East Side EP is Distro's second for the label and unlike his debut, which featured My Nu Leng Teng and Flava D, the four tracks are all his own work. With the freedom to fully express himself, Distro lets rip with the title track emerging in calm fashion before dropping straight into a hard as nails funky drum flex augmented by a vicious bassline. From here Distro veers off into steppier territory for the other three tracks, with the immense sub action of "Someone Say" really standing out.

Taiki Nulight - "Check Out Time" - (4:55) 126 BPM
from $1.49
Review: It has to be said that the combining of the terms 'night' and 'bass' does create an extra heady image of nefarious nocturnal shenanigans. Night Bass is a Los Angeles party, the popularity of which proves that America, currently in the early throes of EDM mania, is starting to look deeper for their dancefloor kicks. This compilation, featuring both new and established talent, captures their scene perfectly - highlights including the atmospheric tech-house meets bassline joint "Wild Fire" by Jack Beats, the sparse clickety-clack heavy bass house of "Gloom" by Jay Robinson and Taiki Nulight's staccato hip-house-step bouncer "Checking Out Time".

Review: Such was the dancefloor decimation caused by Hybrid Theory's recent crowdpleaser King Kong Riddim, they've decided to do it all over again! "King Kong 2.0" is a souped-up accelerated version of their anthem that now manages to merge tech-house, ominous orchestration, hysterical vocal samples, 4x4 bassline grooves and hip-hop beats. Wow!

Review: Two blisteringly fresh originals, one VIP, two remixes; Hadean comes correct with his debut EP. An all-out UK bass assault, "The Raid" sums up his skills; what appears to be a linear, sinewy mid-range bass strutter quickly develops into a multi-bassline face off where new sounds bombard on every bar. "Stompa VIP" updates his Chip Butty banger from last year with mischievous grit while "Brandy" teases us with sexy synths and vocal echoes before plunging us back into Hadean's toxic bass message. With added remixes from the currently unavoidable Pelikann and Holy Goof. Get raiding.

Review: German up-and-comer Da Freyzaz galvanises the Soul in Soul Revolution with five slice of two-step sunshine: "Fall In Love" is a short, sweet vocal velvet number that could easily find itself on a radio playlist. "Everything U Told Me" taps into the 90s house sound with over-layered M1 synth tones, "Like A Chic" goes wild on the vocal processing over a hip-flaring 4/4 groove while the title track reaches for the lasers with lavish synth blasts over a razor sharp step rhythm. Finally we hit "Used". The darkest track of the set, this one is all about the bassline... And likely to be used and abused across the board. Bubbly.

Review: Champion's Formula fam come correct on this expertly curated 15-track exploration into the future realms of bottom heavy music. With exclusive cuts and versions firing from all the label's most consistent contributors, it covers all relative corners creatively; from Killjoy's gameshow grime "Turnt Ones VIP" to the chiselled, sinewy two-steps of Terror Danjah & Zed Bias's "Telepathy" via the sheet metal snares on Flava D's "Break", this collection goes further than representing a forward-thinking imprint but also documents exactly where bass music is heading in the future. Grand prix business.

Review: Just over a year into their game and Nu Wave have already amassed a ridiculous bassline repertoire. Just in case you need refreshing, here are 33 examples. Cherry picking the best examples of low end creativity from their recent releases, along with a few exclusives for good measure, the result is yet another extensive Nu Wave document that leaves you under no illusion as to how tight their game is. Highlights? Kick off with a light steppy vocal starter such as DJ Direct's "Home", feast on a gnarly, wobbly main course such as Negativ's "Damage" then top it off with a super sweet subby, piano tickling dessert like Monrose & Dorrington's "Feel Free". Chow down... This will keep you and your family fed until Christmas.

Review: Nidus: The focus of infection; the place in which bacteria have multiplied. The clue is in the title here... "Nidus" is an instant source of raw sickness that infect your entire dancefloor when dropped appropriately. "Come Wi Di Tune" follows suit with crafty MC vocal shots, another classic J69 toxic bassline and chop-slapping drums. Finally "Baby" sees J69 dust off his guitar and show us how ballads are done up north. Not really, it's actually the darkest strutter on the EP. Get to know.

Review: One of the most exciting representers of UKG's darker, techier, more mischievous underbelly, Deadbeat UK steps up to Tumble once again with four straight up dancefloor-minded thug-outs. The title track switches from robust 4/4 to slinky two-step while a guttural bassline gurgles dirty limericks down your lugholes. "Shapeshifer" wriggles with more of a tubular, metallic snake-bass feel. "Pagans" is rough enough to melt bricks while "Bleak" jumps and bumps with a tightly punctuated hook that's as clipped, direct and unforgiving as a Boer war sergeant major.

Give Me Bass / The Underground by PVC on F2 Cue Track
Underground - (5:24) 129 BPM
from $1.49
Review: Formula Records, the London label run by Champion and home to the likes of Mele, Flava D, Hybrid Theory and more, expand operations with the arrival of the F2 sublabel dedicated to breaking emergent talent. The honour of the debut F2 release falls on PVC, previously spotted excelling on Formula's f=BASS²' compilation. The Brighton talent sets the bar high with two bonafide dancefloor cuts that really showcase his talent for crisp, intricate drum programming and razor sharp basslines. The latter is naturally a prominent feature of "Give Me Bass", augmented by some swinging 2-step rhythms redolent of vintage UKG. Complementing this, "Underground" has shades of prime Mickey Finn to its usage of vocal samples and is a deliciously darker production.

Review: Skepta steps up with one of this year's most unifying grime cuts so far. Laying down crystal commentary over a crisp-but-squidgy groove, Skepta lives up to the track's name as he shuts down certain behavioural aspects of peers and fans, certain misconceptions of grime and many other ironies he and the BBK crew battle on the regs. Massive... But then you already knew that, right?

Review: It's Round Two for remixers of "Break It Down", the hit that just keeps giving to Cole Train's DJ Impact and MC Marvel's MIB. Following an earlier collection of mixes, Highly Swung have commissioned a whole bunch more. First up, Pud & Dan deliver an "Evil Dub" which is all scattershot beats and epic breaks before Tony C takes things into nasty, gloriously underground speed garage territory. Elsewhere Junior UK keeps it pop-2step whilst Statix wraps things up nicely with a manic ragga-step dub.

Review: Banana-bending hairy heaviness from Four40 champs Hybrid Theory: "King Kong Riddim" is a straight up dancefloor melter with its skippy kicks, trappist synth-horns and gritty bass eructs. Spattered with occasional spoken word samples, it's a simple but highly effective tool that guarantees crowd participation.

Review: After some gnarly 'whomp whomp' bass? Check "The Cannibal". It's a meaty production of low end wobbles, cabalistic vocal shots and stripped back tribal percussion. "Stop Frontin" has a similar edge only this time the flavour is more urban than Amazonian, while howling metallic synth tones and skittering percussion take over in "The Block". And for DJs look to interrupt their sets with massive blasts of air horn and a large, minimal drop, "Knockout" is your track.

The Way I Go In - (4:35) 140 BPM
from $1.49
Review: Key Off Me Nut troublemaker Phatworld gets busy with a firing four pack bass attack. Coming on strong like the UK's answer to G Jones, each cut is built up around a strong and hard-hitting bass idea and a cheeky vocal sample. "Genghis Khan" utilises a slew of grime chats of a moaning, high-end groany grainy bass tone. "Certified" gets busier on more of a multi-flavoured bass dynamic as a high end wriggle goes toe-to-toe with a much lower, darker wobble. Deeper into the blend we hit total insanity with "Back To The Music" while "The Way I Go In" references UK garage's glory era before dropping into more bass silliness that's reminiscent of a young Sinden.

Review: Long-running LA label Party Like Us Records (PLUR!) serve up a fine helping of Scandinavian dancefloor business from Finnish basstronaut Rico Tubbs. One of the most chameleonic talents currently working with bassline-led music, Riku Pentii is on fine form with his two original contributions to "the decidedly-noble" Iron Hearts EP. Up first, the title track pairs hoover bass with breakbeats, stabs and OG rave vocals and will appeal to anyone that likes to hear "Charly" by Prodigy in the dance, whilst "Totem" veers off into bassline heavy speed garage territory. Remixes of both tracks come from Skapes and Petey Clicks & Stranger respectively and offer something tougher.

Frontline 2015 (feat Monkstar) - (3:03) 140 BPM
from $1.49
Review: We've been waiting for this a long, long time... "N To The Gs" is The Generals' most generous release since the "Five Star" EP two years ago. Five tracks deep, each one reminding us how hard Footsie and D Double E work. "Levels" will be recognisable to all house heads as they murk the Dickens out of a My Nu Leng vibe. "Bang Boi" updates the angular, aggy eski beat riddim with additional voices from Brakeman & Chronic while "Murking Yearly" nods its head to a classic west coast hip-hop mood. The most critical moment for many, though, will be an update of the 2003 classic "Frontline" wherein original member Monkstar returns for the first time in about a decade. Heritage hype.

Review: For their latest release, Project Allout promise 'pure fire' and 'real big UK garage and bass' from Notion. Well, they've not let us down with Notion stepping up to deliver three tracks guaranteed to smash dancefloors apart from here to Timbuktu. The title track features moody keyboard melodies, sharp 4x4 goodness and even a catchy pseudo rap. "Skankz" brings the bleeps, rave pads and big vocals for some wobbly garage and "How U Feel" mixes speed garage, house and urban vibes for a total sizzler.

Review: Relative newcomer Majora, is a producer who loves division - he divided his time between Bath and Bristol and his sound between 'house, grime and garage'. He doesn't seem to extend this philosophy to record labels though, as he seems to be happy residing with Sounds Of Sumo, who give us a new release package. The title track is thick, gloopy jazz-step meets wobble (turned into heavy 4x4 by Spoils and campy speed garage by Conducta) and "Tech Leopard" takes things even deeper for a deliciously tropical head-nodder (turned raucous carnival jam by Doctor Jeep). Boom!

Review: After last year's On My Mind release with Flava D, Royal T is back on Butterz with another sure shot of grimey pressure. As well as the instrumental beats, "Shotta" comes in two versions voiced by P Money and Footsie respectively with very different results. P Money brings a fierce and fiery delivery that pushes the already-hype track into dangerous levels of liveliness, while Footsie takes a more restrained approach with no less presence in his flow. Aside from those show-stealers, Royal T gets to stretch his legs on playful garage house interlude "Limbo" and the adventurous climes of "Glacier" with its melting pot of influences feeding into a truly diverse jam.

Review: After appearances on Bear Fresh and the now sadly defunct Trouble & Bass, Glasgow pair Mr. Beeb and Fault Lines bring their Klient project to Leeds label Tessellate. Overseen by Corporal F, Tessellate has swiftly established itself within the bass music community and this trio of trademark darkside rollers from Klient can only assist in the label's ascent. Lead cut "Intent" sets the tone nicely, sharp bass lines viciously swerving around the channels amidst some superbly chopped up rhythms. "Vultures" offers a further example of their clear prowess for bassline manipulation - just wait for that drop - whilst final cut "Generator" features that man Corporal F behind the mixing desk too.

Review: Young East London producer Sam 'Palace' Walker has been part of DJ Haus's trusted inner circle for some time, having released on both Unknown 2 The Unknown and Hot Haus Records. Here he unreleased two more retro-futurist house gems - the kind of kaleidoscopic, rave-inspired tracks that evoke memories of early '90s pirate radio stations and illegal parties full of smiling dancers in bad long sleeve t-shirts. Choose between the bouncy stabs, hazy vocal cuts, bleep-era bass and snappy, cheap-sounding beats of "Codex", and "NRG", a piano-laden banger that makes great use of some familiar samples that were once a staple of breakbeat hardcore and bouncy house records. Oh, and the unmistakable rhythmic swing of UK garage.

Review: Blimey! London's Mike Delinquent steps out of his usual Champion home and he's brought along the legendary MC Neat with him on the ones and twos, for the newly founded Zeus Sound. The two have conjured four cuts of their new "Hype Ting" cut, the club and radio mixes being the two floor-fillers, a pair of UK garage steppers that take us back to the early noughties when the likes of Oxide & Neutrino were churning out tunes. You also get a deeper dub mix of the original, leaving room for the percussion to flex, and an instrumental, for the DJs.

Review: Spooky's riot-inducing 2012 shock-out gets a mean and moody VIP treatment from the big man himself. That immense, back-hunching bassline remains the same but the beats have switched with swaggering, trap-like grizzles and grunts. Doctor Jeep, meanwhile, flips the UK funky bird with wall-smashing drums and a relentless fizzy groove. Further on we hit another VIP as Jeep tears apart 2013's "Ghost Dance" and completely rewrites the bassline over the jugular-tickling eski beats. A little too riotous? Check Spooky's subversion for a more deep-space-minded remix; all twisted sirens and waspy bass, it's yet another dark scud from Spooky's spotless weapon armoury. Handle with care.

Review: After successfully remixing some very popular dance tunes to widespread approving nods from the likes of Loadstar, Clean Bandit and Naughty Boy, the Bristol duo have returned to the studio to furnish the bass music community with a second EP released on cutting edge label Black Butter. Bringing together house, garage and bassline for that oh-so-now deep house feel with a characteristically twisted outlook, each track is a swarming mass of influences and irresistible experimentation. "Scatter" in particular has that perfect MNL combo of hip-swinging dancefloor compatibility and relentless hard-hitting beats and you've almost definitely already heard the badness of "Levels" on your travels. A definite buy on sight.

Review: Simma Black deliver another large compilation - this time 26 tracks - and there's multiple contributions from guys like Dom Townsend & Nathan Cozzetto who deliver hits like the dirty vocal track "It's Been Done" to the big room "Streaming". Meanwhile Bumpy Fool turn up their sirens on "Talkin Bout" while "Feelings Like This" delivers an old school NY ballroom sound. Him&Me are all about the 909 hi-hats and basslines in their track "Guest List" - and to be honest the list goes on; too many jams here to mention.

Review: Brummie producer/MC extraordinaire Preditah does the honourable thing with Craig David's finest moment; chopping up his memorable chant from 2000 and slapping him down over a bulbous bass house jam. Rewind material... Literally. Remix-wise a whole array of vibes await; Cahill get their mid-'90s prog twinkles on, Dexcell let fly with a murky timeless D&B roller, Dr Meaker go for a late '90s Full Cycle D&B vibe, Majestic gets an awesome future-G shuffle on while adding a little spooky dynamic in all the right places, Vanilla Ace and Dharkfunkh throw down a very cool, understated garage strutter while Wilfred Giroux looks towards the mid-2000s Get Physical / Made To Play type of jack. Rewind selectors!

Review: Hot on the heels of "Artillery" on Four40, Birmingham bass-buster Tuff Culture delivers an equally dark and distinctive cut on Project Allout. A strutting 4/4 garage joint coded with sacks of space and slinky subs, it utilises gangster-style synth horns with a subtle funk effect. Remix-wise Enigma Dubz takes us back to the dubstep source where those horns sounds even more aggy and dramatic while Dr Cryptic lets rip with a firing, uptempo 4/4 cut that sits somewhere between bassline house and juke. Hench heaven.

Mint (Majora remix) - (6:16) 126 BPM

Review: Minty freshness from Salzburg's Demuja on Kry Wolf's evergreen SOS label. The title (and Majora's remix) track dives head first into the beat scene with a broken drum arrangement and synth tones so icy and unforgiving you'd be forgiven to think they're from Detroit. "Listen" follows with a much warmer synthetic salvo and classic house vocal snippets while "Square" is straight up jacking house that wouldn't go amiss in a Sneak or Farina showdown. Finally we hit "Just The Drums" wherein the switchy, sketchy samples and jitters wrap themselves around the beats so tightly they become the rhythm themselves.

My Mind EP by Brent Kilner on Bear Fresh Cue Track
My Mind (Pelikann remix) - (4:34) 128 BPM
from $1.49
Review: Barnsley's finest bass producer Brent Kilner has been talking recently about switching to a brand new sound, so the My Mind EP might just be your last chance to catch him killing it before he moves on. If they are his last bass tracks, he's bowing out it style, delivering the raucous and breaky 4x4/jump up hybrid "My Mind" and the deep and moody wobbler "Boomstick". The title track also gets remixed into some doomy dubstep by Pelikan and turned into an otherworldly bass assault by Kiri.
