Review: For all those of you out there who had lost faith in ever hearing another instalment in the Saucy Selections series...rejoice! The wait is over. It's over a year since Vol 2, but the Saucy crew are back bringing serious fiyah over 22 fresh new jams. As usual, the quality is never compromised, particularly on such standouts as the mercilessly pounding, RnB sampling "You Better Know" by Libra, the futuristic 2-step synth stabs of "Eyes On You" by Jello and the dry warehouse beats and buzzy bass bounce of "People Dem Dance" by Lucent & Karl Vincent.

Review: Sheffield's Project Allout don't mess about, having developed a reputation for championing all directions in the ways of bass. Every take on that three letter word is important to this label and that's why they cram so many hot jams onto their comps. Basically they're the Ferrero Rocher am-bass-adors and they are really spoiling us with 49(!) lengerz. Highlights include AT's bleepy 8-bit hip-hop groove "Flash Bang", the epic, symphonic trap of Dubzta's "Lord Of War" and the almost disco tech grooves of "Murkers' by King Hydra. All killer, no filler!

Review: AC Slater's Los Angeles-based Night Bass label has been turning the US on its head what with all the real UK bass flavours they've been serving up. They've now made it to the fourth instalment of the mighty This Is Night Bass series, and once again it's sizzling with energy. There are eight tracks this time including the heavy stomp of Aussie Yolanda Be Cool & Wongo's "Roosevelt", Sinden's gloriously dark "God" and the deep jackin' grooves of Bijou's "Cant' See Us". Night Bass then, bringing quality to the masses.

Hard 2 C - (4:56) 132 BPM

Review: Ice Cream's DJD has been given a day pass from his regular label to release "See The Light", a hook up with Too Bad DJs, through NM Recordings. We're glad they did because the track is probably a bit too heavy to work on other labels. Did we say heavy? Well, we meant it, with title track fusing deep 90s rave pads, diva/gospel vocals and stark percussion (check the incredible steel drum drop). "Hard 2 C" takes all the elements of the previous track and puts them in a blender. The result being truly fluid underground garage. Pirate vibes.

Review: Bristol's bass supremacy is under threat from Sheffield's formidable Project Allout, who have literally gone all out by rounding up 21 heavyweight jams to prove it. With such heavy ammo who is foolish enough to try and resist? Not us, and if we really had to pick, some of our favourites would be Adam Mac's doomy, empty rainy street vibes on the haunting "Cold Side", the accelerated, pinged up, soulful 4 x 4 banger "Deep" by Deadbeat UK and the percussive dancehall infused synth bass monster, "Likkie Vibez" by Juzlo. The Allout revolution, don't fight it, feel it!

Review: Veteran UK producer EL-B had taken a sabbatical from garage, but has recently set about producing a 21st century take on the style. Hooking up with likeminded Birmingham label 40Forty, we now have the Attitude EP in our proverbial hands. The EP boasts four bleeding edge cuts, the first of which, "What you Mean To Me" riffs heavily on the classic 2-step sound with diva style vocals. Elsewhere, "Erase My Mind" is thumping, raw underground garage, "Down With The Programme' is a soulful, choppy, leftfield cut and "Attitude" is a upbeat party joint that samples Colonel Abrahams!

Review: For those who don't know, Hypho is a rising talent in the bass game and his quest to reach the top level has gotten closer thanks to this latest injection of low frequencies for the 877 label. "Wartime" is the perfect lead tune, a string-led pseudo grime instrumental with a perfectly executed percussive rhythm, and "Pinch" follows a similar path thanks to its slithering beats. There is a collaboration with Squane on "Hack", a futuristic grime roller with a mean collection of beats and hollow melodies, which is followed by Majora's remix of "Wartime", a more uplifting version of the tune, and a Vital Techniques reinterpretation of "Pinch". Smoking bangers guaranteed!

Review: "Blow", by Two Tons (aka Joedan and Kontent) pays homage to the Johnny Deep movie of the same name - pure as the driven snow. It's also a tune that'll shake your speaker cones, with its rattling rhythms and positively sub-maximal bottom end. Joedan ups the wobble factor on his VIP mix, whilst "Dnt Gve A Fck" is a neon-lit, late night roller. Joedan appears again, this time with his own "No Verse Two" - all sparse tropical beats and grime verses courtesy of MC Shantie. Boom!

Review: Tumble Audio is what you would call a truly "UK" label. This is because it deals in just about any strain of British dance music, and from garage, through to dubstep, and post-bass, it always delivers the goods in style. This time it's Archive with five smoking riddims from the depths of underground, and "Keep Guard", along with "Ghana Police" are what you would call true hybrids - the beats are harsh and stepping, while the low frequencies dominate the groove. "Gully", once again, proves that 'bass' music really is a thing by chucking in just about any genre imaginable that falls on the hardcore continuum, and there's even a few remixes of "Keep Guard", one stripped-down Burial-like reinterpretation by Bromley, and heavy-stepping version by Sly-one.

Review: Mike Millrain is a bona fide UKG don. The man behind scene-shaping label Nice N Ripe and the owner of about a million aliases (from D Base to G.O.D), if anyone can curate a compendium of seminal UK garage and two-step cuts, it's him. Each one of these cuts (all of which have enjoyed Mike's musicianship, production or guidance) rumbles, shudders, shakes and sasses with authentic turn-of-the-century naughtiness. From jungle referencing breakbeats of Heavyweight Kru's "Bad Ass Bass" to the sensual skanks of Large Joints' "Thinkin'" via the R&B charms of Fruity Loops' "Share The Love" and the lush euphoric instrumentation of D Base's "Love Is Deeper", Mike has put together a 27 track history lesson that really can't be faulted.

Review: NM Recordings is a collective of bass heavyweights including the Slime crew, Maxxi and Mind Of A Dragon to name but a few. The thing all these guys have in common is a desire to push things forward, 'things' being UKG. Here on "Hot Air" Doctor Nick prescribes a heavy dosage of warm, synthetic nostalgia (think Ayia Napa, circa 2000) with oodles of smooth pads, crisp 2-step beats and watery melodies. Remix-wise Cellardore adds a more attitude-heavy bassline and evocative sound FX, Wolfe, pitches everything up for a naughty wobble-fest whilst Jepadee closes with some neatly atmospheric UKF.

Review: And just like that, Mr Curi jumps on the scene with his debut release for the new and fledgling 3000 Digital imprint. This is hybrid gear; "Rock The Bells" is a house tune is structure that has been taken over in its low-end by squealing pseudo dubstep bleeps and growls. There's two remixes of the tune from Mikey B and Brent Kilner, the first being an aggressive had house version and the second a power garage take on the original, followed by and finished off with "By My Side" and its alternate set of dubstep rings and waves. Lovely gear.

Review: Thirty Three nuggets of serious UKG gullyness; Project Allout have already developed a serious reputation for generous dispatches, but this is whole new level. Uniting their many lengmen for a deep exploration of the pastures between bassline house, instrumental grime and the broader realms of bass music, every area is covered. Highlights include the eski angst of Chemist RNS' "Stare", the violin-snapping, post-dubstep darkness of Deadbeat UK's "Graveyard", the outrageous VIP muscles of Hoax and Dubzta's "Twilight Zone" and the sassy vocal flexery of Pavv's "You Got Me". This is just the tip of the bassline iceberg, though. Dig deep and grab your own lenger; there are enough here for everyone.

Review: Birmingham badness here with the city's pre-eminent bass institution, Fourty40, bringing serious fiyah on the "Get Mad" EP from Metro Club. Heavy heavy club vibes abound on this one with Serocee delivering some fierce MC flow to this bouncy urban house explosion. Remix-wise Jamie George delivers a cool dancehall-inflicted roller, Jay Robinson gets well aggy on his harder hoover bass jam and South Royston get deep into an old skool acid house zone. Lastly DJ Cable explores the murky quagmire between dubstep and trap to evocative effect!

Review: London's bass giant Roska likes to keep thing fresh. That's why he is constantly releasing short, sharp sizzlers - to keep his latest sounds on dancefloors. His latest missive is BFF, which is another top notch joint. Kicking off with an atmosphere-building synthscape the tune soon gives away to his fierce combination of stark tropical drum patterns and nagging melodies. Another sure-fire winner.

Review: Brighton's up and coming DJ/producer Pavv is back on Southpoint with some truly representative sounds of the UK underground garage sound and after some great releases on Project All Out, In:flux Audio and U Wot Blud? Records. The sexy and wonky title track is no doubt indebted to legends like MJ Cole, but what an impressive tribute; the use of the sampled vocals on this one is sweet. Bushbaby turns in a pretty killer remix of the track too which we dug, adding more swing to the rhythm and some added 'wonk' to the bassline which worked well. Also appearing is "Run Tings" which is more raw, tracky and full of attitude; save this one for later in the night when you want to up the energy level effectively.

To celebrate they're put together this immense 54 track collection that represents the label's many sounds and successes. From Regality's deep Chicago inspired chugger "Celebrate" to Morcee's subtle speed garage swag "It's You", Hybrid Theory's atonal bass grunts and happy slap snares on "Mind Games" and Tom Shorterz subverted soul on "Wot U Do", Four40 cover all bass bases and provide an opportunity to fill any holes in your collection. The vinyl run is already out of print, but there's still much digital joy to be had. There's one from three happening producers here: DJ Champion brings some fire with UKF monster "Selecta" which is all sci-fi bass and rolling carnival drums. Elsewhere MA1 delivers a peak time animal in the form of the hysterical synthline-fuelled "Bassbox" and finally DJ Naughty (no, not the Gigolo one) delivers EP highlight, the quirky leftfield garage workout "Unstoppable". Ace.

Review: Rising Welsh DJ/producer Jay Robinson has made himself right at home with the Night Bass label, here presenting his third EP for the imprint. If ain't broke and all that. There are four turbo charged bass pounders packed on to this release, starting with the bad man bounce of opener "Fury". Next is the creepy, bleepy shuffle of "The Model", before he gets his wobble out on the skippy "Red Dot". Lastly he wraps things up with the UKG-informed "The Start", which is actually the end, but Robinson never plays by the rules.

We've got five remakes here to tackle, starting with the woofer-shredding bass frequencies of the breaky VIP. Elsewhere highlights include the spooky-horror wobble of Moony's mix, the machine gun drums of Tigs' fresh rework and the mayhem of Cre8's hardcore DnB version. Safe.

Review: Bristol is surely now the UK's official home of bass, and here comes the city's latest export Pharoah K: a producer and drummer who's definitely going places fast. He's been preparing this new EP for a while and it shows in the expert attention to detail. There are four well-crafted jams here with the title track - all deep synths and ghetto bounce - leading the charge. Elsewhere 'Duke" lays on the orchestration to great effect, "Swamp Five" delivers eccentric, scattershot beats and lastly "Arms" is an arms-in-the-air carnival jam.

Here the mischievous Londoner returns with three new punch lines for the mighty Chip Butty. First up "Shakedown" is all about setting the tone with some classic 4 x 4 bounce, next "Back-Up Plan" deals out some seriously nasty staccato breaks and finally there are dancehall MC vibes added to the skippy beats of the purely evil "Warlord". Witty? This is no laughing matter!

Review: Ever since their last release, we've been preoccupied with what really does do go on deep within the mind of a dragon. It turns out that beneath all the scales and firey breath they tend to think a lot about holidaying in Ayia Napa circa 2001. Wonder if Saint George knew this. Anyway, "Too Much" is a delicious mix of catchy distant vocals snippets and perky 130bpm beats and warm, undulating bass waves. Remix-wise Mike Millrain brings the '90s house fire - all slammin' New York garage vibes and closer than close synthy goodness. Summer is officially here!

Review: Big props due to the Eglo network for this release, an impeccable EP of Floating Points productions which cannot fail to impress on any level. Musically, it's perhaps Shepherd's most ambitious collection to date, veering through sumptuous deep house, expertly crafted broken boogie from another century and bristling techno. "Myrtle Avenue" is a dreamlike way to open a release, plunging into vast, widescreen expanses of texture and detail, further cementing comparisons with Theo as the freeform keys align with undulating layers of percussion. "Realise" and "Obfuse" are the precursors to the standout tracks on the second twelve, but are in no way filler, with the former teasing out finely placed 808 programming over pensive simmering patterns, whilst the latter is a fizzing, stripped down drum machine workout that is gradually joined by yet more tenderised synths. And thus we come to "Arp3", a track which will secure this release a place in many a heart, expertly growing into a haunting techno epic and filled with so many production intricacies and rhythmic deviations it demands several repeat plays. "Sais" rounds off the release, revealing in full detail the track's fuzzy, orchestral glory some time after a Dub version appeared on record store day.

Review: Midland's bass troubadour Tuff Culture recently explored his feminine side with the recent emotional Solar/Desire release. Now he's back with "Edification" and although he has returned somewhat to his 'tuffer' side, he has retained some of the softer, melodic touches he learned along the way. "Asia" begins proceedings with a fluffy 4 x 4 bounce, with quirky melodic interludes and raw ragga vocals. Next, "Midnight Safari" is just that - all dark, nocturnal jungle percussion and spooky breaks. Lastly "Tell Me", is smooth and moody bass with choppy hi-hats and all kinds of synthy atmospherics. Top drawer tunes!

Review: Nu Era are a duo from the West Midlands intent on toppling Bristol's bas crown by championed in a 'new era' of bass music. So far they've been doing a good job about it, particularly with their jams on Four40. "Under My Skin" sees them reunited with the label, bring fire over the course of three new tracks. The title track opens the EP with some minimal 4 x 4 action, whilst "Rush" brings the ghetto bounce to the party and "Go" with its huge snare build ups and mercilessly low bottom end is a peak time monster if ever there was one.

Review: This new EP from Birmingham's bass bastion Bassboy sees him leap artistically from his early days of RnB cut-ups. He's been pushing his sound more towards an off-kilter garage sound of late, though here things begin brightly with "Rainbows" - an infectious fusion of fizzy garage-pop and brutal bottom end. However elsewhere the perky "Colours" benefits from some heavy tribal thump and "Once Upon A Time" is an orgy of nasty 4x4 and 90s vocal snippets and pads aplenty. DJ Direct also appears to add some serious muscle to the title track too.

Usually found jetsetting around the globe spinning tunes, he's taken a break from his busy schedule to deliver Bassline Bangers Vol 2. Review: Sheffield's Dr Cryptic has made a home for himself at the Chip Butty label and, if we're honest, we love what he's done with the place. The bass playa is up and knocking around with "Skippy", a UK garage track with a wobbling, moaning piece of bass fit for a low-riding dubstep tune. There's a heap of remixes of the tune: Phatworld plays with the bass and wobbles it to its very limits, Rico Tubbs goes deeper and dubbier on the percussion muscle, Vital Techniques distorts the low frequencies, and Dr Oscillator adds a little old-school flavour to the equation.

Review: Having recently celebrated their tenth release, Sheffield's Chip Butty have now rounded up the cream of their roster for Chip Shop Vol 1. There are nine bangers featured here, all promising 'hard 4x4 beats mashed with twisted basslines'. They're not wrong either: highlights include label stalwart Dr Cryptic's pounding garage-step sing-a-long "Dirty Dot", the doomily orchestrated wobbler "Marching Powder" by Sekt 87 and the menacing speed garage of "Rude" by Little Mesters.

Review: South Coast bass troubadour, Distro, now finds himself back where he started - on Roska's mighty Kicks & Snares imprint. He's on his most commercial form yet, we reckon, with "Nothing To Prove" being a perky UKF sing-along featuring plenty of wobbly carnival vibes. The Roska X Marjora mix steers things into deeper, darker waters - all sublime moods and scattershot beats. Doctor Beat also steps up to the (dub) plate to deliver a heavier bassline assault for those later hours. There's also a sleek instrumental supplied for all those who don't dig the vocals. Win-win!

Murder He Wrote has been busting out of his native Brighton with some serious attention from the likes of Redlight, Skint and Sounds Of Sumo. Now Roska's joined the party, presenting the latest from this young talent. Even a quick listen to these two tracks will confirm that this is no ordinary bass producer. "Stopwatch" sees infectiously tropical beats roll across a droney, arpeggiated bassline and topped off with Maddie Ellerby's floating vocals. "Lights Up" meanwhile still has that tropical vibe but goes deeper into moodier afterhours boxjam territory. Slick.

Even the tunes, a harsh blend of garage, bass and nu-skool jungle, are dusty and covered in a layer of mystique that gets our appetites going good and proper. "Emotions" itself is a powerful garage stormer with a those inimitable r&b samples and accompanied by an intricate percussion flex, The stand-out moment for us, though, is surely "Not The Same" simply for its woozy, shape-shifting bass and forward-thinking beat arrangement. A winner.

Review: With a reputation like that of Slime's, when they present their idea of garage future, it tends to be pretty definitive. Here they've done it again with a second installment of Future Sound Of Garage 2. There are 28 new joints here, all bursting with futuristic fizz. Highlights include the robo 2-step opener "Dreams" by Cup & String, the nasty bass and speedy beats of Conducta's "Be Strong" and the warm, washing synth waves of melodic bliss-popper "Goin In" by David Eliza. The future's safe in the hands of Slime!

Review: Influx:Audio is a label celebrating the thriving bass scene of their native Yorkshire. One of their shining stars is Pavv (ironically from Brighton) who has made a big splash in the UK bass scene with releases for the likes of U Wot Blud? Here they invite him to reveal his top artists and tunes happening right now and he doesn't disappoint, delivering 10 bleeding edge jams including the space-age UKF of "Things I Do" by Deadbeat UK, the percolating bass gargles of "Nod Ya Head" by Spookz and Pavv's own quirky take on wobble-heavy 4 x 4, "Everyday".

Review: Usually known for his heavyweight D&B, Simula drops the UKG bomb with a deep bubbling MC-fronted cut that ignites with deep house chords but soon hurls into a glitchy 4/4 strut that's not dissimilar to My Nu Leng. Remix-wise all bass bases are covered... Spookz applies the breaks, Skepsis chisels up the two-step and reverses the bass, Karl Vincent twists up the drums and busses up the reverb and roominess while K Green strips things right back on a much deeper classical garage version before dropping the gully bomb on the drop. Cheeky.

Review: High Daniels (aka Andy Robb from Devon), is a young gun who rocks a Brian Harvey look and even harder sound. Here he has paired up with Nasty Habbitz (aka 'The Badman'), for the two-punch audio assault, Faint On Man EP. "Battlefield" sets the tone with atmospheric breaks, some heavy, slow bass thunder and even some threatening Joe Pesci samples for good measure. "Pescy" Is even less subtle with 4 x 4 elements married to sinister bass frequencies and a general air of impending doom! Just the way we like it.
