Review: Originally known as one half of UKG/UK funky/house fusionists Cause & Effect, Chris Lorenzo has decided to venture out on his own for debut album, Destroy The Image. The Birmingham-based producer is known for his love of collaborating and over the 14 tracks here we encounter hook ups with Alex Mills, DJ Zinc and Sam Nicolosi. Highlights include the creeped-out techno mantra of "Come Down", the radio-friendly EDM anthem, "We Are" and the dirty tropical baile attack, "Bad Bitch".

Review: TMSV specialises in all things bass-related, an artist who is capable of producing pretty much any sort of dance music that travels at the speed of sound and drags frequencies lower than the underground itself. The Artikal casual lands on Tumble Audio with this monster of an EP, filed with dubwise dread throughout, and that manages to wield an impressive amount of jungle out of its more dubstep-centric beats; "Expensive Suit" is a good example of that, but even "Nuh Tek Diss" has enough break-ridden charm to please all sorts of corner-dwelling head-nodders. A bodacious selection of remixes from the likes of Archive, Murder He Wrote and Hypho add to the nastiness, and make this one hell of an EP.

Review: The mighty Southpoint label is in pretty deep with this leviathan of a compilation, a mammoth-sized dubstep showdown spanning twelve heavy, sweltering slices of low frequency. They got their whole crew in line with this one, from the sleek, speed garage of Aerotonin, to Drax's pseudo grime, KXVU's alien-like take on dubstep, Pavv's murk-bass house beats, through to the hybrid beats and breaks of Scullious' experimental shade of dubstep. KILLAH.

Review: Midlands bass hero Tuff Culture likes to challenge the expectations of what the genre should sound like, and for his latest missive he's looked to 1980s cop show Miami vice for inspiration. However he's stayed with a very UK sound for the EP. The title track marries Ocean Drive synth pads and bleepy melodies with a bit of rough edged bass. "Need Me" is messy UKG with punchy snares and cut-up loops and "Wanna Be' ends with a hard and heavy 4 x 4 slammer. Moony also appears to give the title track a deliciously deep 2-step makeover too.

Review: Hailing from Edinburgh, Blackboxxx got his first break with the mighty Slime label. Since his debut, Sayonara, he's progressed and honed his sound, resulting in this smart new offering, Adonis, on NM Recordings. The title track is a warm slice of future 2-step, complete with dreamy atmospherics, distant RnB vocals and some deep sub warbles. "Link Up" goes even further into luxurious MJ Cole-style vibes for a truly slick ride. Moony also remixes the former into some filthy hardcore nastiness, with bouncy breaks mayhem by Cellardore and smooth late night vibes Courtesy of Doctor Nick.

Selektar - (4:34) 134 BPM

Review: Sheffield's JG may not be Ballard but there's still plenty of crash in his upfront hard-hitting bassy productions. Cave Explorer may be his most fierce yet, boasting two cuts that literally provide passage to the underground. The title track is all about the hip-hop string samples, jukey percussion and lots of wobbly metallic subs. He brings some serious fiyah on "Selektar" though - with distant police sirens mixing with scattershot beats and eccentric basslines. This produce has ventured deep underground and has discovered pools of creativity hidden beneath.

Review: UKG power grooves: having elevated from fire edits on Soundcloud to a pro releases in recent years, Shaun Dean continues to flex his slick sonic skills on Dr Cryptic's ever-tasty Chip Butty. "Complete" struts with a certain amount of garage sass while remaining underpinned by a nuclear bass riff, "Top 5" is a much leaner affair with its strutting 4/4s and moaning, almost weeping bass. Elsewhere "4 Me" balances a rich vocal hook with eyes-down bass tones and distant synth stabs and "Area 51" rolls with an almost classic rave Warp 91 style feel. Covering all styles and corners, this EP is more than a clever title.

Review: Before delivering the promised 'arsenal of dutty new tunes for all you functioning bass addicts' next year, fledging bass label Saucy round up this one with a selection of all their best stuff from their sophomore year. There are a whopping 24 tracks to get your teeth into, highlights of which include the insanely catchy moody pop of opener "Summer Rain" by Inkline, the slamming garage/house of "Don't Stop (Jack Swaffer remix)" by Mike Jones and the eccentric beats and creeped out sounds of the "House Of Haunted Horrors" by Spooky and Spekktrum. Review: What Dr Oetker is to frozen pizzas, Dr Oscillator is to naughty potty-mouthed bassline music: tasty. Making his debut at Michelin starred bass restaurant Project Allout, chef Oscillator has cooked his most scrumptious bangers... "The Taxman" skanks with iced-out low end menace, "Hostile" hits with more drama than a year of Eastenders while "Chicken & Gravy" closes on a scrum-diddly-umptious two-step flex where subs flutter and keys ripple with a jazzy sexiness. Yum.

Review: It's a case of broken beat meets 2-step here on the positively phantasmagorical Brunette EP by Mind Of a Dragon. There are four stakes-raising tracks this time round, staring with the scattershot beats and undulating rhythms of the title track. Then we're on to some killer haunted garage on "Voices' with atonal noises riffing off elastic beats and distant hazy vocals. "Right Way" is deep and soulful and driven by off kilter beats and synths before "Lonely" wraps things up with a nostalgic take on the golden days of UKG. A classic in the making.

Review: Moscow's Volac are a duo that deal in no-nonsense house music. Here, they return to bass outpost Night Bass to present "Do Ya Thing". The title track is a killer fusion of retro hip-house and infectious totally modern tech-house. "Open Your Mind" takes this formula to its logical conclusion by upping the funk factor through the roof. The anomaly on the EP is "Listen", a quirky synth-hip-hop-ghetto attack, and is probably the best tune on here (and that's saying something!).

Review: In:Flux Audio now have rough n' ready wide boy Thorpey on their books. The Powah EP starts as it means to go on with the snarling, metallic riffs of "Outta My Way" which combines pitched up RnB vocals with a pounding electronic onslaught (turned into deep and sinuous tropical grooves in Pharoah K's rework). The title track meanwhile is a particularly rabid example of harsh 4 x 4 mayhem...with cowbells on top! Label dons Tik & Borrow deliver a frenetic scattershot DnB version and Sample Junkie turns in a hyper accelerated jump up version that'll put hairs on yer chest.

Review: Originally starting life as an instrumental with a different name, "Big Deal" has now properly arrived tweaked and reworked by Four40s' own Hybrid Theory and their regular collaborator Trilla. Boasting elements of grime, wobble an hip-hop this anthem is destined to blow up on dancefloors everywhere. "V.I.P." meanwhile sees this Midlands massive bring even more serious fiyah over four minutes of linear, attitude-heavy, tech-bass mayhem. After listening to this EP, the lyric 'you're in the presence of champions' is hard to argue with.

Still You (Holy Goof remix) - (5:28) 132 BPM

Review: Hot on the heels of the dreamy soul-step gem Still You, Show them agency have now commissioned a follow up remix by Holy Goof. Where the original by Bristol producer Conducta was sleeker than a velvet-lined Cadillac, Midland's hero Holf Goof opts for a much more raw take. Boasting speedy 4 x 4 beats and a growling wobble bassline, the remix manages to provide a jam that keeps the anthemic song parts whilst delivering dancefloor mayhem at the same time. Boom!

Review: Bristol's bass supremacy is under threat from Sheffield's formidable Project Allout, who have literally gone all out by rounding up 21 heavyweight jams to prove it. With such heavy ammo who is foolish enough to try and resist? Not us, and if we really had to pick, some of our favourites would be Adam Mac's doomy, empty rainy street vibes on the haunting "Cold Side", the accelerated, pinged up, soulful 4 x 4 banger "Deep" by Deadbeat UK and the percussive dancehall infused synth bass monster, "Likkie Vibez" by Juzlo. The Allout revolution, don't fight it, feel it!

To celebrate they're put together this immense 54 track collection that represents the label's many sounds and successes. From Regality's deep Chicago inspired chugger "Celebrate" to Morcee's subtle speed garage swag "It's You", Hybrid Theory's atonal bass grunts and happy slap snares on "Mind Games" and Tom Shorterz subverted soul on "Wot U Do", Four40 cover all bass bases and provide an opportunity to fill any holes in your collection. Review: Whether it be house, tech-minded house, or house-leaning bass excursions, the Artifice label have impressed us with their recent run of form. This is, in part, because they've managed to surface new talents out of thin air; this new EP by newcomer Squane is exactly what we've come to expect from these guys, and it ticks all the boxes in terms of sonic diversity. "Totemic" is a pounding, tribalistic drum-dance that stands alone and untested, a true club shaker that'll get the head-nodders moving. "Affliction" is more on the dubstep end of things, and delivers a fine tech-house groove. The former is remixed by Troy Gunner into a slow, shape-shifting mutant of a track, while Hypho revamps the latter by stripping it down entirely, and adding in a burst of juke percussion for good measure.

Review: Tumble Audio is what you would call a truly "UK" label. This is because it deals in just about any strain of British dance music, and from garage, through to dubstep, and post-bass, it always delivers the goods in style. This time it's Archive with five smoking riddims from the depths of underground, and "Keep Guard", along with "Ghana Police" are what you would call true hybrids - the beats are harsh and stepping, while the low frequencies dominate the groove. "Gully", once again, proves that 'bass' music really is a thing by chucking in just about any genre imaginable that falls on the hardcore continuum, and there's even a few remixes of "Keep Guard", one stripped-down Burial-like reinterpretation by Bromley, and heavy-stepping version by Sly-one.

Review: It's safe to say that Kry Wolf now has a rather impressive catalogue behind him, and nothing but quality under his belt. The man behind the Sounds Of Sumo label drops his latest release for Night Bass and it seems like the perfect place for his wondrous bass cuts. "Temper" is a slow, shape-shifting beast with a rattling percussion hook that wraps perfectly around the tune's knotted swarms of swamp bass, whereas "Flashlight" unleashes a bit of four-to-the-floor beneath a sea of rave sirens and purring bass tones. "Wavvves" feels like the last piece of hardcore continuum, a break-heavy, pseudo jungle killer to tie this man's bass experimentalism in the best possible way. Hot!

Review: It's been 19 years since R.I.P Productions launched Ice Cream Records, an imprint that did much to help popularize UKG during the speed garage days. Here, the veteran duo celebrates the label's enduring legacy with an unmixed collection of classics, exclusives and fresh new cuts. As you might expect, there's a clutch of more recent remixes of Ice Cream classics - see Scott Garcia's 2012 rework of "It's a London Thing" and a fresh edit of "Ripgroove" from Double 99 member DJ Omar - plus new R.I.P versions of 10 Below & Kele Le Roc's "My Love" and new school garage hero DJD's "Oh Baby". Throw in a sprinkling of forthcoming singles, and you've got a weighty trip into speed garage revivalism.

Review: SMOAD - a brand new allegiance between two New Movement regulars Smokey Bubblin' B and Mind Of A Dragon. Together they've fused their sounds to create two wickedly contrasting pieces of UKG. "Mess Around" is all badboy breakbeat brockage a la Special Request while "Only One" is a beautifully loopy 4x4 chugger with all the right soulful elements. Remix-wise Celladore gets busy on a Rico Tubbs style 135 stomping bass house bash-up while DJD powers up with a naughty pair of northern strutters that wouldn't go amiss in a TQD bar fight.

Review: In the 90s AC Slater was the totally ripped jock in Saved By the Bell, but now however, it's the name of an LA bass maniac. Arriving on his own mighty Night Bass Label, My Peoples is a two track EP that continues to bring the sub-heavy heat to the USA. The title track is a storming 4 x 4 thumper with hip-hop samples and a stop-start dynamic that'll stop you resting on your laurels. Next up "Psycho" is a throwback to the deep and jazzy garage/house of the 90s - imagine vintage Van Helden with a firecracker in his tracksuit!

Review: It's been a year since Slime's second instalment of their leading compilation Future Sound Of Garage series. Now the follow-up has finally arrived boasting 28 examples of what they to be consider music of the future. There are too many to name, but highlights include the ethereal and sensual future-step opener "Return" by Monoblue, the seductive, delicate chimes of the shimmering "Ever Feel" by Just Breathe, the sparse and raw 2-step of Pavv's "Let It Go" and even the uber commercial Ibiza-friendly anthem "Stone" by Project X is a (guilty) pleasure.

Review: Nuendo clearly likes to keep himself busy. This outing on Ultra Bass is the "mysterious Australian" producer's seventh - and presumably final - E.P of 2016. "Secrets" is a UK bass-house influenced affair, with cascading electronics, electro-influenced riffs, deep house chords and an attention-grabbing vocal crowding around pulverizing sub-bass thrusts and bouncy, garage-influenced drums. Nuendo's original is accompanied by a quartet of remixes, which veer from turn-of-the-millennium two-step revivalism (Adam Hyjek's tasty rework) to bouncy UK funky (Lewis Low's bass-heavy tweak), via jaunty broken beats (Thorn's interpretation). Michael Luke's piano-heavy re-fix is pretty darn tasty, too.

Review: Sheffield's Project Allout don't mess about, having developed a reputation for championing all directions in the ways of bass. Every take on that three letter word is important to this label and that's why they cram so many hot jams onto their comps. Basically they're the Ferrero Rocher am-bass-adors and they are really spoiling us with 49(!) lengerz. Highlights include AT's bleepy 8-bit hip-hop groove "Flash Bang", the epic, symphonic trap of Dubzta's "Lord Of War" and the almost disco tech grooves of "Murkers' by King Hydra. All killer, no filler!

Review: Wise words from Dread MC, even wiser beats from Bristol's Notion & Young H. Chunky 4x4 garage with strong house tendencies thrown into the mix, "Money & Drugs" is an all-out dancefloor riot with catchy vocals, a deadly second drop and enough energy to charge a whole fleet of electric cars. For added screwface appeal jump on Killjoy's Birmingham-sounding remix where the bassline is twisted up just a few additional notches for added mischief. Blurry.

Review: Boy 8 Bit exploded on to the nu-rave/fidget scene in the late Noughties alongside the likes of The Count & Sinden and Duke Dumont. He's taken a bit of a sabbatical of late but now appears to be back with more music. The first signs of his return is this new two-track release on Roska's Kicks & Snares. "Low Blow" dispenses with the noisier elements of his production (he's a big fan of death metal!) in favour of infectious tropical beats and shimmering melodic chimes. "Action Break" meanwhile, is even more percussive, with rat-tat-tat tribal snares rolling under undulating bass.

Review: Tik&Borrow's In:Flux Audio label has developed its strong reputation not least due to the duo's discerning ears. A new Get Fluxed comp always means more of their expertly curated selections. This time round there are 12 cuts that provide something for everyone on a bass tip. Highlights includes the buzzsaw breakbeats of T&B's own "Junction Box", the sinister afterhours garage of "Too Close" by Connerz and heady, dub-tech mayhem of Joedan's "High Times". Also an extra shout-out goes to the digi-dancehall roof-raiser "Get Funky" by King Hydra.

Review: Some say the B stands for brutal. Others say it stands for beef. We reckon it stands for badman as he reminds us once again on Second To None. Digging deep into his Niche roots, cuts like "Endlessly" and "Caught Up" are ruthlessly heavy with their four-beat energy and riffy drive. If you fancy a little more sass to your bash then vocal two-step cuts "Behind Closed Doors" and "Forget Your Name" will both hit your (UK)G-spot. Needs more house? Jump straight on "From Me". You won't be disappointed.

The Conquer EP features what they describe as 'three high-powered grime instrumentals', which is only partly true as they draw on much wider influences than grime itself. The title track is full of hip-hop swagger - brassy riffs and rattlesnake percussion - and is given a bouncy 4 x 4 makeover by Tengu and a rabid, doomy and eccentric rework by Aerotonin. Elsewhere they look to ancient Japan on "Ronin" and they chill out on the atmospheric "Wasted".

Review: New Movement enlists the skills of Smokey B for its eighth single of 2016. Last spotted on the new imprint's inaugural "Transmission" collection, here he lays down some discerning bboy badnesss with "Licence". Utilising the same sample that inspired Caspa to name his label Dub Police years ago, the mood is deep and the rhythm is slinkier than a crunked up Distro. Remix-wise Celladore gets a warped bass 4/4 stomp on, Doctor Nick gets aggy on a dark garage flex while Mind Of A Dragon takes the UKG motifs to strange tripped out places. Don't fail this test.

Review: Almost exclusively found on YoSH, here Southampton act FooR switch to Four40 for Luv U Right. They've marked the release with a James Corden Carpool Karaoke-style video too. The title track is first and delivers some moody and sparse UKG married to a seriously raw bassline, "Never Meant To Be" is a dark garage/half-step hybrid powered by the warped vocals of Chanai Zinyuku and "Something, Something" is the most powerfully viscous slice of tech-garage-wobble-whatever! that we've heard in a long time. Lastly "Switch" wraps things up nicely with tasty 4 x 4 banger.

Review: For a label that only launched this spring, Nu Wave has taken no prisoners whatsoever. Repping the funkier side of garage and the darker side of deep house, Deckstar and Steve Brooke have established a distinctive sonic signature in a very short space of time. Here we find them tethering their past work with a number of exclusives to form this highly accomplished debut compilation. Ranging from the dark bubble/jazz-chord balance of Deckstar's "Wondering" to Lee Martin's organ-slapping "Wanna Be" via Duo and Chantelle Rowe's blistering vocal stunner "Enough Of Your Love", Nu Wave paint an on-point picture with clarity and originality. Get to know.
