Review: Sheffield's Dr Cryptic has made a home for himself at the Chip Butty label and, if we're honest, we love what he's done with the place. The bass playa is up and knocking around with "Skippy", a UK garage track with a wobbling, moaning piece of bass fit for a low-riding dubstep tune. There's a heap of remixes of the tune: Phatworld plays with the bass and wobbles it to its very limits, Rico Tubbs goes deeper and dubbier on the percussion muscle, Vital Techniques distorts the low frequencies, and Dr Oscillator adds a little old-school flavour to the equation.

Review: Boy, it's their instalment of the This Is Night Bass series and, as always, it's a tight and severely jam-packed bag of pure bass-ridden quality. The rhythm carrying the best part of the release is one that locks into 4/4 mode, but the melodies, low frequencies and vocals contain something seriously UK about them. In fact, if you're looking for purist British house music with a garage flavour then you'v hit the right spot; it's as if these guys have tele transported back to 2000/2001, when the roots of dubstep were being laid-down from the foundations of garage and bassline. YES.

Review: South Coast bass troubadour, Distro, now finds himself back where he started - on Roska's mighty Kicks & Snares imprint. He's on his most commercial form yet, we reckon, with "Nothing To Prove" being a perky UKF sing-along featuring plenty of wobbly carnival vibes. The Roska X Marjora mix steers things into deeper, darker waters - all sublime moods and scattershot beats. Doctor Beat also steps up to the (dub) plate to deliver a heavier bassline assault for those later hours. There's also a sleek instrumental supplied for all those who don't dig the vocals. Win-win!

Review: Inspired by the lack of pigeonholing in today's bassline scene, the much respected Low Pitched have rustled up their first album, Low Pitched Presents: Resonate, which aims to capture this aforementioned musical diversity. They haven't held back either, packing a whopping 23 new jams on this album, truly laying claim to having all bases covered. Highlights include the juddering low-end juggernaut "Patterns" by Clexx, the crisp, floating in space 2-stepper "Rowdy" and the truly next level, otherworldly rhythms of "Swedger" by Sketchman. A snapshot of a scene in full bloom.

Review: Nu Era are a duo from the West Midlands intent on toppling Bristol's bas crown by championed in a 'new era' of bass music. So far they've been doing a good job about it, particularly with their jams on Four40. "Under My Skin" sees them reunited with the label, bring fire over the course of three new tracks. The title track opens the EP with some minimal 4 x 4 action, whilst "Rush" brings the ghetto bounce to the party and "Go" with its huge snare build ups and mercilessly low bottom end is a peak time monster if ever there was one.

Review: Brighton's up and coming DJ/producer Pavv is back on Southpoint with some truly representative sounds of the UK underground garage sound and after some great releases on Project All Out, In:flux Audio and U Wot Blud? Records. The sexy and wonky title track is no doubt indebted to legends like MJ Cole, but what an impressive tribute; the use of the sampled vocals on this one is sweet. Bushbaby turns in a pretty killer remix of the track too which we dug, adding more swing to the rhythm and some added 'wonk' to the bassline which worked well. Also appearing is "Run Tings" which is more raw, tracky and full of attitude; save this one for later in the night when you want to up the energy level effectively.

Review: Tumble Audio is what you would call a truly "UK" label. This is because it deals in just about any strain of British dance music, and from garage, through to dubstep, and post-bass, it always delivers the goods in style. This time it's Archive with five smoking riddims from the depths of underground, and "Keep Guard", along with "Ghana Police" are what you would call true hybrids - the beats are harsh and stepping, while the low frequencies dominate the groove. "Gully", once again, proves that 'bass' music really is a thing by chucking in just about any genre imaginable that falls on the hardcore continuum, and there's even a few remixes of "Keep Guard", one stripped-down Burial-like reinterpretation by Bromley, and heavy-stepping version by Sly-one.

Review: Influx:Audio is a label celebrating the thriving bass scene of their native Yorkshire. One of their shining stars is Pavv (ironically from Brighton) who has made a big splash in the UK bass scene with releases for the likes of U Wot Blud? Here they invite him to reveal his top artists and tunes happening right now and he doesn't disappoint, delivering 10 bleeding edge jams including the space-age UKF of "Things I Do" by Deadbeat UK, the percolating bass gargles of "Nod Ya Head" by Spookz and Pavv's own quirky take on wobble-heavy 4 x 4, "Everyday".

Review: Blustering bass boss Leda Stray brought some serious fire with his Punks debut Oracle/Vision, which was all over Radio 1, Kiss FM and Rinse FM. Now he's back with evidence of how blistering an experience he actually is. The Live EP captures him er, live in action with some killer hardcore breaks, chest-busting bass and serious crowd rousing MCing ("Is there anyone inside who doesn't come from fackin Bognor Regis?!" Elsewhere Cellardore streamlines the tune into some wobbly heavy garage, whilst Doctor Nick delivers some nice and deep 2 step goodness.

Review: Thirty Three nuggets of serious UKG gullyness; Project Allout have already developed a serious reputation for generous dispatches, but this is whole new level. Uniting their many lengmen for a deep exploration of the pastures between bassline house, instrumental grime and the broader realms of bass music, every area is covered. Highlights include the eski angst of Chemist RNS' "Stare", the violin-snapping, post-dubstep darkness of Deadbeat UK's "Graveyard", the outrageous VIP muscles of Hoax and Dubzta's "Twilight Zone" and the sassy vocal flexery of Pavv's "You Got Me". This is just the tip of the bassline iceberg, though. Dig deep and grab your own lenger; there are enough here for everyone.

Review: Having recently celebrated their tenth release, Sheffield's Chip Butty have now rounded up the cream of their roster for Chip Shop Vol 1. There are nine bangers featured here, all promising 'hard 4x4 beats mashed with twisted basslines'. They're not wrong either: highlights include label stalwart Dr Cryptic's pounding garage-step sing-a-long "Dirty Dot", the doomily orchestrated wobbler "Marching Powder" by Sekt 87 and the menacing speed garage of "Rude" by Little Mesters.

Review: It's been way too long since we've heard from Polish duo Negativ. Thankfully they're back with a full force EP on another UK label, 887. The VIP mix of "Stealth" starts proceedings with a bang - dark tropical beats with a muscular bass bounce and even a cheeky hardcore break. Elsewhere "Ritual" sounds like Gary Numan's synth guys at a breaks night in Fabric and "Havoc" wraps things up with moody FX, evil bass stabs and tough, tense beats. Great to have them back.

Review: Bristol is surely now the UK's official home of bass, and here comes the city's latest export Pharoah K: a producer and drummer who's definitely going places fast. He's been preparing this new EP for a while and it shows in the expert attention to detail. There are four well-crafted jams here with the title track - all deep synths and ghetto bounce - leading the charge. Elsewhere 'Duke" lays on the orchestration to great effect, "Swamp Five" delivers eccentric, scattershot beats and lastly "Arms" is an arms-in-the-air carnival jam.

Review: Established during UKG/deep house's latest halcyon era in 2011, Four40 have navigated the bass, house and garage landscape with understated charm, forward-thinking fusions and occasions splashes of gully for five years, amassing well over 70 releases in the process. To celebrate they're put together this immense 54 track collection that represents the label's many sounds and successes. From Regality's deep Chicago inspired chugger "Celebrate" to Morcee's subtle speed garage swag "It's You", Hybrid Theory's atonal bass grunts and happy slap snares on "Mind Games" and Tom Shorterz subverted soul on "Wot U Do", Four40 cover all bass bases and provide an opportunity to fill any holes in your collection. Review: Flava D is a no-nonsense gal who is known for delivery tough but poppy UKG and bass jams. Here though she follows up the melodic vibes of Closer with two slices of dirtier, underground tuneage. "Wheels" is an impressive exercise in percussion with lolloping tropical rhythms that underpin dark carnival trumpet stabs and erratic snippets of chanting. An instrumental anthem if ever there was one. "Bare Fields" is slightly lighter though, speeding up some 4 x 4 wobble and adding an extra skippiness and even some vaguely Middle Eastern melodies. Strong.

Review: Despite being renowned as a heady bass label, Slime have a softer side too and here they have taken a chance on serial guest vocalist Lauren Neko. Now with a solo platform of her own, Neko gets the chance to fully shine. "Moments Like This" is a beguiling slice of hazy garage pop with lashings of soft and shimmering instrumentation that allows her silky vocals come to the fore. However the real fun to be had is on Bad Habits' remix which transports us to Ayia Napa circa 2000 for some B-15 Project-style 2-step action.

Review: As suggested by their name, This Ain't Bristol are a German label pushing UK sounds. Maximono are a duo of Drum & Bass producers from London and Hannover who have switched to house music and their bass driven, fun loving tendencies will no doubt mark comparisons to the Dirtybird crew over the Atlantic. They've taken over A&R duties for the label here and this compilation reflects their tastes There's some surefire dancefloor artillery on here such as Maximono themselves with "Bleep", Dirtybird alumnus Worthy with the bass heavy party vibes of "Big End", the druggy and minimal main room vibes of Los Angeleno Dillon Nathaniel on "Keep On Keepin On" and Berliner Ben Mono's "You Know It's True" which just reeks of Sunday afternoon hedonism at Kater Blau.

Review: Ever wondered what kind of sound Roska's Kicks & Snares label champions, or if you do know but haven't time to find the best new releases? Take a chill pill because Roska has rustled up this mini-sampler that compiles highlights from three recent releases. "Grinding" by Tickles starts things off with a virtual orgy of tropical/urban percussion, MA1's "Static" is next, an upfront club jam that presents a deeper, edgier take on the carnival sound and Spectr's "Dance 4 Me" wraps things up with some serious raw beats and distorted RnB vocals.

Review: This new EP from Birmingham's bass bastion Bassboy sees him leap artistically from his early days of RnB cut-ups. He's been pushing his sound more towards an off-kilter garage sound of late, though here things begin brightly with "Rainbows" - an infectious fusion of fizzy garage-pop and brutal bottom end. However elsewhere the perky "Colours" benefits from some heavy tribal thump and "Once Upon A Time" is an orgy of nasty 4x4 and 90s vocal snippets and pads aplenty. DJ Direct also appears to add some serious muscle to the title track too.

Review: Liverpudlian bass demon, Lucent, is a regular on myriad dance music compilations. In other words his sounds reverberate around the globe. Here he conjures up a demonically warped breaks anthem with soulful diva vocals and a seriously mangled bassline. There's also a selection of remixes by some key names of the scene: Jaqou George rocks up with some laser shoot-out percussion and nasty stabbing bass, Pelikann adds a certain dreaminess to the 4/4 madness, the legendary Rico Tubbs brings his trademark energy-wobble to the party and Selekta wraps things up with some deep killer UKF.

Review: Veteran DJ duo Plump DJs recently delivered their big room anthem "Yes Yes" to unanimous approval. Now we get to revisit the banger via a new remix by none other than the mighty Hybrid Theory. Although the essence of the original is retained, HT swaps most of the tribal/baile drum rhythms for more of a wobble-heavy 4 x 4 workout. Stripped back and fresh, this anthem's success is now going to last all summer!

Review: Ultimate bass batboys U Wot Blud sign Forbid onto their roster, and the brother comes through with three nasty piece of low frequencies for the dancehall. "Guerrilla Warfare", as the name implies, is a no nonsense gun-slinger with a bit of wobble-end to support its frame, and "Vitamin D Sharp" carries that vibe through to an ever nastier bit of rave-stabbing bass, whereas "Keep It Going" chucks in some 4/4 drums and twists the wobble into a stone-cold UK hard-house budget that'll rock you brains and jaws out. UFF!

Review: Mikey B and Krissy B first collaborated under the B Squared moniker last November. Now we finally have a follow-up, better late than never and all that, and they have clearly lost none of their mutual spark. "Never 2 Busy" is a hyperactive 136bpm banger that fuses soulful RnB vocals and chords with demented 2 step and jagged bass. Elsewhere "Fair & Square" keeps up the pace with jackhammer 4 x 4 beats and warbling female vocals, "All I Need" brings us skippy beats with mechanical wobble basslines and finally "Find You" is hard bounce with chipmunk vocals. Knackered yet?

Review: Yeah boy! We hadn't heard or seen from garage legend MJ Cole in a good while, and every time we see a new EP from the man pop onto our laps, we find it difficult to stay still in our seats. Sadly, this latest appearance on Lobster Boy is a brief one, with the excellent "Alcatraz" being the only tune on offer; however, it does satisfy our every need through some rough, pounding house beats, and de-tuned vocal samples that simply call to the dance floor. It's a tune that pretty much any DJ on the planet can enjoy, and tool it up to just about anything. Heavy, as expected.

Review: Fierce, new wave hip-house and garage vibes from Utrecht's Anil Aras on DJ Haus' imprint for serious house heads only. On the A side is "Dance MF" a wicked DJ tool that features one brutally booming 909 kick you'll ever hear, supported by funky breaks and hip hop vocal samples. On the flip it's the kind of Jersey sound that'd make Todd Edwards stand up and notice on "Shake Dat Ass" with its hissing, swing fuelled shuffle, more hip-house samples and 909 boom taking it all the way home!

Review: Here we have clash of the Bristolian titans with rising R&B dude Conducta hooking up with bass man Notion for the long awaited "Felt This Way". This title track has a retro-futuristic 2-step vibe about it, with echoes of the early work of Craig David and Artful Dodger (officially no longer a bad thing). On the digital flip, "Vague" is a dirtier affair - all nasty bass undulations, pitched vocal snippets and sparse, high-rise beats. Fresh.

Proper UK garage vibes the way god intended on "Send Me Love" with all the right amount of shuffle and soul and sampling Ce Ce Penniston is always the best way to get on anyone's good books! Review: Midlands bass duo, Hybrid Theory, were only recently up in the dock on trial for their murderously killer low-end frequencies. Seems that they must have got off on a technicality as they are already back out and ready to offend again. This new split single features two typically uncompromising productions. "Fatality" features knife-sharp hi-hats, buzz saw bass and positively lethal drops a plenty. "The Edge" meanwhile boasts skippy breakbeats, merciless bass bounce and even some string samples just to shake things up a little.

Review: Callum Watson arrived with a bang on the UK bass scene in 2013 at the tender age of 20. Now he's all grown up like, and it shows. His new EP, Lux, is indeed a luxurious treat for connoisseurs of the finest bass music known to man. There are four serious workouts here, beginning with the title track's eerie opening gambit, "TriFi", features a fuzzy bass bounce, stomping percussion and a beautifully evocative breakdown, whilst after all that emotion WATSN straightens his shoulders for the hard as nails, hip-hop sampling "Dis". Finally the paranoia beat of "BDP" sees indecipherable chatter masked by serpentine rhythms and edge of your seat drums patterns. Safe!

He clearly likes to dance a lot, as this new track "Alone No More" (with pal Anton Powers) comes with a whopping 11 remixes to choose from! If you don't find something here to make you dance, well, we give up! The original is pure, radio-friendly commercial dance, with breathy needy vocals and an infectious Robin S-style melody. Remix highlights include Tom Zanetti & KO Kane's more underground electro-housier and Distant Light's choppy 2-stepper.

Review: If anywhere is providing a credible challenge to Bristol's bass crown, it's Leeds and here we have that city's newest contender, Oliver Livsey, with two new jams on the Second To None label. "Disconnected" is an assured 4 x 4 pounder that neatly twists in some subtle 2-step and dubstep breaks into the mix. "Smoke" on the other hand, sees Livsey collaborate with bass hero Mikey B, and is a super melodic jam with skippy beats, female RnB vocals and accelerated catchy basslines. One to watch!

Review: As one of the figureheads of the bassline garage scene, DJ Q has produced a massive amount of material since 2003, and this massive compilation collects 25 of his tracks from across nearly 10 years, including the bassline staple "Tea Bag". Of course there are plenty of other gems on the compilation, including the furious squelch of "Watching You" and the irresistible chipmunked vocals of "Old Flex". If you've even a passing interest in proper UK garage this collection is quite simply essential.

Once again released through 877, these new joints are bound to take him to the next level. Brimming with energy, "Nang" is a speedy 4x4 assault, equal parts vitriolic and visceral, and it'll certainly get you moving. "Touch" on the other hand, is a moodier beast, all thumping jack beats, 303s and snarling bass. Flava D also joins the party, turning the title track into a slammin' wobble-heavy banger.

Here he serves up some more fierce tuneage in the form of the six track Askin' 4 it EP (or is it a mini LP?). Like a true pro he covers all bases here, from pop to underground. Some of the many highlights include the insanely rhythmical title track, the sunkissed steel drum pop gem "Aeroplanes" and the moody grind of late night closer "Toll Booth". Expect to be hearing these tunes for months to come!

Highlights fall of every track like an ill-fitting suit with gully gems such as the weirded out wobbles of Joedan & Kontent?s ?Ruggish?, Killjoy?s vitalising squelch funk on ?Public Enemy?, and premium sexytime silk in the form of Taz?s ?Lonely? and gossamer two-step soul by way of Spekktrum?s ?Talk To Me?. What with it being exactly a year since the last Roadman collection, we?re hoping Tumble turn this into an annual affair.

Review: Usually known for his heavyweight D&B, Simula drops the UKG bomb with a deep bubbling MC-fronted cut that ignites with deep house chords but soon hurls into a glitchy 4/4 strut that's not dissimilar to My Nu Leng. Remix-wise all bass bases are covered... Spookz applies the breaks, Skepsis chisels up the two-step and reverses the bass, Karl Vincent twists up the drums and busses up the reverb and roominess while K Green strips things right back on a much deeper classical garage version before dropping the gully bomb on the drop. Cheeky.

Review: Hungarian producer Sirmo has his heart firmly entrenched in the UK scene and here he is gain with two new cuts of his finest street sounds. "Rewind Come Again" is a mid-paced, clap-heavy breaks joint with echoes of Flat Beat and "Hold On" is a more intense, wobble heavy slice of 4 x 4 nastiness. The former gets a boost from Hamdi who remodels the tune into an anarchic 140bpm bass monster whilst the latter is turned into amazing fidgety 2-step by space-age producer, Bushbaby.
