Review: An engaging and interesting four-track EP here from 3 Hrs on the Black Butter label, which kicks off with the title track "Absolutely" - a shimmering little number with glistering synths, rumbling bass, ribbiting beats and chopped up, repeated vocal snippet. "Clap Work", up next, continues in a similar vein, with faded, clapping beats, booming sub bass and distanced, echoing vocal element, with repeating insistence to "clap!" Penultimate cut "Fear To" is an eerie, ominous slice of darkness, whilst "Nite Time" slows the pace down, with a stripped back soundscape as the EP draws to a close.

Review: UK bass producer Artek turns in a blinder on this new EP from B.YRSELF, crafting a cocksure rhythm from subs and dry percussion on the spacey "Out of Touch" and laying down icy stabs and UKF-influenced beats on "Earth One". "Grief" however is the speaker-buster - a cosmic trip around top-end filter pads and and thick enveloping bass that also gets some great remixes from Umba, Keiska and Bombe.

Review: This newie from Baxta is a little different to previous Cheap Thrills releases. While the UK funky/garage/B-more/tropical fusions on offer do come loaded with heavy drums and gut-wrenching bass, there's also plenty of subtlety to the production and some choice melodies and ear pleasing sounds (see the title track and the touchy-feely breakdowns of "Skyline"). Recommended.

Review: An excellent debut from a new crew comprising Hyperdub/Lightworks funky house producer Ossie, as well as Paul Black and Orial. Bringing some lo-fi vocal soul to UKF, the trio announce themselves with three stark but huge tracks - the shimmering and jacking title-tune, the mesmerising Detroit waves of "Nobody Knows" and the warped house of "Messing Around" - complete with background studio chatter for extra trippyness. Ossie's own mix of "Back Of My Car" is also included, and makes for an intense astral hardcore makeover that rounds off this enormously impressive introduction.

Review: Considering he's been releasing records for the likes of Planet Mu and Apple Pips since 2009, it would be something of an understatement to say that Brackles' debut album has been a long time coming - but it couldn't have been better timed. Although his sound - a rough hybrid of UK garage and funky styles with echoes of dubstep - is very much of the now, there's an obvious love for the classic sounds of 90s UKG which many of his more inexperienced contemporaries lack - assisted by the inspired vocal contributions from Lily McKenzie and Terri Walker. But it's not just a throwback record - be it the slightly offbeat bass and calypso vibe of "Walkin' Out", or the churning subs of "Squarehead", Brackles nevertheless manages to twist the template into weird and unique shapes. That this album has been released on Rinse isn't a surprise - he's encapsulated nearly twenty years of the station's sound into one record.

Review: Never has a track been so accurately titled. Coming on like the demented imaginings of a bunch of laughing gas-guzzling nutters (or, in this case, Crookers and Style Of Eye), "That Laughing Track" features swathces of maniacal laughter layered over the sort of gut-busting, scattergun rave percussion that should send ravers absolutely bonkers. Review: Landing on the typically more D&B-shaped label Valve, excellent four-headed UKF/garage monsters CRST once again smash it on this new single. "Pressure" is pure Roska/Funkystepz/Ill Blu funky - rooted on a hypnotic kick and hyped with bruk out snares and gliding pads, it's a simple yet devilishly funky winner. "What I Want" goes out on more of a garage vibe though, with vocalist Allen sitting atop a fluid bass line and DJ Q-esque snares and hats. OG garage/funky don Zed Bias weighs in with a typically full-frontal remix that switches up rhythms and mixes crisp, pitched-up snares with deliciously rounded bass.

Review: With the lead track on this EP, "Turn Around", sporting crooning tones from Luke Lowen, it seems like D3adl1ne has a clear sight on breaking through to mass appeal. In the delicate UK Funky framework and drive-time vocals of the track there is a lot of potential for crossover, but the EP doesn't stop there. "Eee" for example plies a definite trade in dub techno dynamics amidst shuffling 2-step beats, while "Everybody" comes from the Joy Orbison school of melancholia in contemporary electronic music. Light, melodic and instantly accessible; D3adl1ne should win over many a fan with his crisp, clean beats.
