Review: The kind of EP you wouldn't want meet down a dark alley at night, this also marks Mokujin's first release for someone other than Blaq (maybe they were too scared?). Anyway, it's their loss as we get four tracks of menacing post-dubstep - "Confessions" features stunningly haunting synths welded to a UKF frame, "I Can't Take It" is the sound of distorted discord, aka serial killer garage, "Oh Baby" is 2-step with issues and "What The" gets all heavy on the wobble. Killer stuff.

Review: After successfully remixing some very popular dance tunes to widespread approving nods from the likes of Loadstar, Clean Bandit and Naughty Boy, the Bristol duo have returned to the studio to furnish the bass music community with a second EP released on cutting edge label Black Butter. Bringing together house, garage and bassline for that oh-so-now deep house feel with a characteristically twisted outlook, each track is a swarming mass of influences and irresistible experimentation. "Scatter" in particular has that perfect MNL combo of hip-swinging dancefloor compatibility and relentless hard-hitting beats and you've almost definitely already heard the badness of "Levels" on your travels. A definite buy on sight.

Review: There's a few acts out there with the same or similar name, but this Nativ shouldn't need to worry, he's most likely to be the one that's remembered. Coming out London's cult label Vex, "Bandulu" is a menacing slice of forward-thinking wobble where chiming tropical beats collide when snarling, rabid bass. Elsewhere "Afrocentricism" pushes the drum rolls further and the bass lower, while "Bounce" is all about the spacey synths. Remix-wise Notion and DJ Spookz deliver ghetto tropical and peak time chaos respectively.

Review: Given Unknown To The Unknown's wide ranging remit, including bassline garage, Detroit electro and Chicago house, it was perhaps inevitable that a genuine 90s house record would find its way onto the label at some point. Originally released in 1992, OHM's "Tribal Tone" was supposedly the first tune to use the Korg M1 sound that was later immortalised by Robin S' "Show Me Love", and had considerable impact at the time, being championed The Shamen frontman Mr C, being licensed to R&S sub-label Global Cuts and US label Vibe, and finding itself remixed by the Sabres of Paradise trio. Here it finds itself with three similarly great remixes, a stripped-back, raw groover from Marquis Hawkes, a horn-heavy piece of 90s action from Capracara and a thundering mid-tempo effort from Northern Souls. Essential!

Review: It's great to see classic UKG label Ice Cream Records back in action of late. Here they've resurrected mid 90s garage pioneers RiP Productions, who even back then were way ahead of the curve in terms of futuristic takes on the formula. Review: Rinse's own Royal T has been listening to UKG for as long as he started stealing bootlegs from his brother. With the advent of online mixtape technology and the worlds of grime, bassline and UK funky at his feet, the Southampton-based producer's latest offering is a filthy culmination of sticky dancefloors, hastily-printed rave flyers, pirate radio and the dawning of crisply ironed trap. There's a feeling of nostalgia about the whole EP for times when listening to grime at the back of the bus really was the pinnacle. Nostalgia too often comes with negative connotations - rather than stale Royal T brings his own modern edge to the retrospective bubbles he creates with each track. It's a celebration rather than a museum piece. Long live the spirit of the underground.

Review: Despite often playing second fiddle to his original partner The Count aka Herve, Graeme Sinden is still doing alright for himself. Having recently relocated to LA, his relentless productivity is beginning to bear fruit with this, his first solo release of 2013. Despite being the other side of the Atlantic both tracks here display distinct UK influences: "Bad Boy" fuses choppy, fidgety loops, a ragga MC sample and some seriously wobbly UKF. The best track though, is the more linear "Tempest Storm" which features long deep house loops and some absolutely lovely garage-inspired melodies.

Review: It's grime o'clock at Hyperdub HQ as Terror Danjah and Champion square-off with some midrange baiting badness as cheeky and rude as you would expect from two masters of the art. Danjah's "Glide" actually struts on a peppy 4/4 rhythm, but the synths keep things dutty whilst there are plenty of quirks stitched into the beat. Champion's template on "Bowser's Castle" is broader, with fulsome melodies and a dextrous switch between ring modulating bassline throw downs and glossy synth refrains. In both instances the collaborations between the two bring a more hectic style full of clattering percussion and urgent tempos, clearly fed on the energy of shared studio time.

Review: With the imminent return of Daft Punk reminding us all of Paris's vibrant electronic music heritage, local label ClekClekBoom pop-up to provide us with a wide-eyed snapshot of the current Parisian underground. There are hints of familiar French staples - the stomping Ed Banger-ish ravery of The Town's "Dice", the classic house flex of Coni's "Missing You Nire" - but for the most part Paris Club Music Volume 1 dances to a different beat. With label regulars French Fries coming to the fore, much of the album is devoted to the sort of hard-to-pigeonhole bass music that takes its influence as much from B-more, R&B and UK garage as filter funk and electro-house.

Review: We Are Nuts aren't exactly known for their deep, contemplative musings, but who needs that on a dancefloor at 3am anyway? "Bombaclat" is a blazin' 4x4 wobbly bass banger, and "Daily Dose" is like a housier UKF take on an already pretty eccentric baile funk stomper. Finally DJ Q steps in bringing a whole tonne of flabby wobble to add to the ravey keys. Messy, very messy.
