Review: French label B.YRSELF Division like to spoil its listeners rotten; you rarely get less than about six tracks per release. "...So Below" is the second release by the seriously shady Changez and it actually forms the second half of a debut album (the first half being last year's "As Above..."). Review: Jay 'Chubba' Richards has been popping up all over the place of late, with recent releases on Sirch and Odea Records. Here, he brings his particular brand of contemporary house and UK funky fusion to Republic. "Moody" - so-called because it features a prominent sample from Kenny Dixon Jnr talking about his MPC - sets the tone, layering tough electronic percussion over a monstrous bassline. "Diamonds" sounds like a fusion of classic UKG and '90s house, while "Broken" feels like the sort of thing that Hypercolour should be signing (think nice chords, tasty vocal stabs and bassline-driven deep house flavour). There's also a tougher, UK funky-flavoured tweak from Vedicis and Vanshift that's well worth a listen.

Review: Leeds producer Debian Blak has been described as having a post-dubstep agenda with a sting in its tail. This time round though, he's eschewed the sting in favour of a sweeter pop sound, and to great effect too. Review: Bringing further evolution in the realm of footwork, one of the scene's heavy hitters DJ Earl drops this self-assured EP which lets a little heart and soul into the manic machinations of his chosen discipline. Opening track "I Feel It" embraces full-bodied vocals and warm melodies, while "I Need You" gets deep into a Rhodes refrain, all the while twitching away at the heightened BPMs of classic footwork. "Alive N' Well" goes as far as to reach for some chunky Detroit chords, while "Ambienttt" somewhat ironically represents the feistiest cut on the release with a more head-nagging refrain that seems more in line with classic Chicago juking.

Review: It's not every day we come across underground bass artists named after an actress in a 1980s soap, Dynasty, but it takes all sorts as they say. Musically this is seriously next level stuff: "I Can't Hide" is twisted and contorted tribal house with half time breaks and a killer cowbell. "No Way Back" is similarly bonkers but drowns everything is neon synths. Remixers include The Druid Cloak (sounds like a Brazilian carnival stumbling into a rave), Kresy (slow, emotional house) and Rohan (even deeper still; adding melancholic keyboards and cut up vocals for what's possibly the stand-out track).

Review: New kid on the block Groofeo steps up on Slime Recordings with his irresistibly grinding Hybrid EP - a suitable name given the dude's masterful blend of half-step beats and chimerical atmospherics. "Outside the Earth" lies somewhere between Calibre's majestic jungle rhythms and Oneohtrix Point Never's drones - a winning combination. "Synchrophasotron" is a stunning chugger, reminiscent of early DMZ, bringing back those lazy, sludgy kicks with subtle swirls of UK nastiness emanating from all angles. "Melancholy" meanwhile takes a broken beat arrangement and completely twists it on his head, giving us a slow-burning and soulful jazzy soundscape for the early hours.

Review: Don't worry, "Dappy" isn't an ode or homage to N-Dubz' ratty frontman. In fact it couldn't be further from Dappy's cheesy UK grime-lite if it tried. Romping away with a resonant warbling bass and unrelenting 4/4 stomp, it's an ultimate buzz cut that doesn't sound too far away from a Dirtybird record. Remix-wise Belgian ghetto-groover Kill Frenzy pitches down the vocal sample and adds much more of a haunted flavour to the groove. Either version is dark enough to send Dappy crying to his dear old mum.

Review: It's only April, but what year it's already been for Brooklyn's Baauer! Following January's internet meme, his bass/trap anthem "Harlem Shake" originally released by Diplo, became a giant, bona fide hit; sample controversies followed with both Azealia Banks and the artists Baauer originally borrowed from himself. Here we have a cheeky retweak that still includes everything from the lion's roar to the rolling snares, but makes the tune more linear and pitches those electronic trumpets higher for maximum effect.

Review: Ahead of a multitude of new ventures and projects, Hyetal makes a welcome return to hint at where his sound might be heading with this new track. It's a bold move that fuses rasping electro drum patterns with reverbed vocal and trademark plush, detuning melodies that comes on like a dramatic, windswept version of synth-pop built for craggy coastlines. Vessel steps up for the first remix, shearing away the niceties to create some industrial flavoured dread complete with yowling, nebulous wraiths of the original vocal and insistent bass. Factory Floor meanwhile bring their own brand of looping sample revisions that work up to a peppy, disco-fuelled burner with a catchy bassline to anchor the more wayward samples in the background.
