Where You Are (feat Khalil Anthony) - (6:09) 123 BPM Biggest-selling track on this release
from $1.93
Review: Jimpster has a new album on the way - his seventh in total - so has decided to serve up this tantalizing taster of what's to come. "Crave", featuring the quietly soulful vocals of Florence Rawlings, is an exercise in sumptuous, musically rich dancefloor deep house in which the Freerange co-founder can showcase his admirable composition and production skills. Khalil Anthony adds his slick vocals to the chunkier and more bass-heavy richness of "Where You Are", which recalls his appearances on Thatmanmonkz's superb Columbising full-length. Meanwhile, the EP also boasts two remixes of "Crave": a wonderfully soulful, tech-tinged shuffler from Atjazz and a rolling, analogue-rich interpretation full of bubbly electronic flourishes by D.KO co-founder Flabaire.

Review: Jeepers creepers Simula's on the strong stuff again. Seriously...Take one listen to the textures on "Jester" and tell us that's the work of a sane mind. Strange, innovative and unique, it's just one of the six twisted sizzlers on parade here: the rifle-snipping laser love of "Gunfire", the sinewy croaks and 1.21 giggawatt power of the bass on "Trigger Happy" and the pure venom rust of "Swamped" are just a few of the many highlights. Strong enough to turn an intro into an extro, Simula doesn't mess around.

Review: Next up on Bristol's Futureboogie is Alex Warren aka Kiwi who has had previous releases on the likes of Optimo Music, Blase Boys Club and Sneaky Music in addition to promoting for well known London parties and clubs like Orlando Boom/Kate Boss and The Nest. The versatile producer wastes no time getting stuck in, starting out with the explosive "Orca" which features one of the most amazing arpeggios this side of "I Feel Love". There's more vintage, synth driven disco vibes on "Minke" or "Logmans Break" while the feel good nu-disco vibes of "Pygmy" are reminiscent of modern greats like Jay Shepheard or Milton Jackson.

Review: Long before he began work on the collaborative Tiger & Woods project, Marco Passarani was much loved for his solo productions, which effortlessly joined the dots between techno, electro, Italo-disco and synth-funk. Analog Fingerprints, his first solo single since 2011, is a thrilling blast from the past. Those who dug his earlier productions on Nature will love the thrilling alien synthesizer motifs, sweaty drums and throbbing acid flashes of "Quarto" - think vintage R&S Records stompers fused with wild electronic disco abandon - while "Tribalonios" feels like a long-lost new beat slammer pitched up to suit house clubs. For those who fancy a cheery chunk of synthesizer-heavy dancefloor bliss, opener "Wonky Wonky Wonky" should more than tick those boxes.

Review: For those of a certain age, the opening seconds of 808 State's 1991 rave anthem "In Yer Face" - a combination of memorable melody lines and loved-up chords - are still capable of setting the pulse racing. Bicep have taken on the task of updating Graham Massey and company's anthem for a new generation, serving up two fresh interpretations. Wisely, they emphasize the spine-tingling goodness of the Manchester outfit's chord progressions on their A-side remix, getting rougher, tougher and weightier as the track progresses. Their flipside acid dub - where electro-inspired breakbeats, heavy bass and floatation tank melodies are expertly combined with ragged TB-303 lines - recalls the similarly-minded thrills of DJ Parrot and Mark Brydon's 'Sunshine Dub' of DJ Mink's early Warp slammer "Hey! Hey! Can U Relate?".

Review: After an extended summer break, Apersonal Music returns to action via a first EP in five years from Cisco Cisco. It opens with the comforting shuffle of "Jazzy Days", where intricate electric piano lines, woozy chords and soulful vocal samples ride a near horizontal, slow-house groove. It's accompanied by a trademark Ron Basejam remix, which retains the rich, jazzy deep house feel of the original, whilst adding a little more disco swagger. Further disco and boogie influences can be heard on "Jazzy Nights", which is a flickering, synth-heavy deep house treat. Andre Vegas' smooth, sweet and sultry interpretation of that track rounds off a fine E.P.

Review: Invisible City Editions have a deserved reputation for unearthing and reissuing genuinely overlooked gems. Oluko Imo's "Praise Jah" is arguably a little better known than some of their releases, having become a sought after item amongst collectors of off-kilter Caribbean disco. Trindadian Imo recorded it in 1978 following a move to New York, and it offers a brilliantly far-sighted combination of soca-disco and the kind of bubbling analogue synthesizer electronics that pre-date the Chicago acid movement by six years or so. Choose between the vocal mix, which boasts a fine lead vocal from Imo alongside celebratory female backing vocals, and an instrumental that gives every musical element space to breath. The jammed-out electric piano solos and intergalactic electronics are particularly thrilling.

Review: Spectre Audio is a UK label currently bringing the best in drum and bass music. The label is supported by DJ Hype, Hazard, Guv, Jaydan and Voltage to name but a few. Next up they have got the Faceless Audio affiliated Operate with two new fierce offerings. First up is the grimy and low down techstep of "Alice" which is properly geared for some nefarious and paranoid moments on the dancefloor while "Sundown" goes for the jugular on this powerful stepper aimed squarely at the dancefloor. Sounding somewhere between Calibre and DJ Krust: the bassline on this one must he heard to be believed!

Review: Slovenian sounboys Dubdiggerz make their debut on the ever-tasty Gourmet Beats imprint with three stunning and far-reaching slices of authentic, forward-thinking bass music. "Le Hospital" is exactly where many people will be heading when you drop this at the right time. True toxic bass funk that happily scuffs its knuckles along in the muck. "Up & Dub VIP" takes an old original dub download, ups the tempo a little and adds various layers and textures. "Busted" closes the show on a springy alien funk tip with caverns of dubspace between the mischief. Can you dig it?

Review: Birmingham's Bassboy is on a mission straight to the top at the moment and his new single "Badboy" is further evidence of his talents. It's a grimey, street level, lo-end assault backed up by his on-point, rapid-fire rhyming while contrasted by some uplifting house keys. The infectious wobble continues on the raw groove of "Move" featuring Pz Da Architect. Final track "Loyalty" features the sultry vocals of Aria on here, which really lifts this already great track to other heights.

Review: Bruck out and gwarn bad! Up and coming producer Abzzy has new artillery to test your subwoofer's capabilities. Having released recently on Garage stalwarts Four40 & U Wot Blud, breakbeat innovators Hot Cakes Bass makes an intriguing home for his latest offering. However the new stable makes total sense when you hear the moody low pass filtered amen breaks breakdown on the intro for "The Gyaldem". The drop hits so hard you would think it was intravenously administered, screw face inducing 4x4 Garage. The formula is the same on the flipside "The Hunt" as intermittent bars from vocal talent Patch Edison pepper what is a punishing bassline.

Review: Fresh from a fine contribution to Local Talk's fifth anniversary compilation, Sameed Rezayan makes his first appearance on G.A.M.M. It sees him exploring similar sonic territory - think jazzy, loop-based, soul-flecked deep house stompers - while serving up two tried and tested dancefloor treats. First up is "Bun", a bouncy and rolling house revision of a groovy chunk of harmonica and saxophone-laden soul-jazz goodness. It's really rather good, though lacks the sheer weightiness of the EP's other track, "Chao". This is, if anything, even loopier, with Sameed building the pressure throughout via darting electric piano keys, simmering strings and a stomping jazz-house groove.

Review: Local Talk has pulled off something of a coup here, somehow persuading legendary Detroit house producer Terrence Parker to contribute a predictably hot two-tracker. "Gratiot Avenue Piano" is a thrillingly celebratory workout, all told, with Parker layering bold, hammered-out piano riffs and rich gospel organs atop a punchy, cymbal-heavy drum machine groove. It feels like the kind of track that will inspire spontaneous acts of clothes removal - tops off, boys - when dropped at the right time. Parker continues the stab-heavy approach on slightly deeper, groovier B-side "Unconditional", which wouldn't have sounded out of place on a Strictly Rhythm 12" from 1993.

Review: Talk about an unusual pairing; New York's best-known vegan has partnered with Adam Beyer's techno label for some big room versions of his 90s hits. At its most understated, this collection features German producer Tiger Stripes delivering a stripped back, minimal house take on "Go", while at the other end of the spectrum, Luca Agnelli turns the dreamy, wispy vocals of "Porcelain" into a thumping, rolling affair. In between these two extremes, there's the organic drums on Bart Skills' take of "Go" and Enrico Sangiuliano turning "Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad?" into an effective but strangely catchy groove, as the original track's operatic vocal is fused with waves of acid.

Review: Phil Weeks' Parisian powerhouse taps one of his hometown heroes for the label's next release: none other than the man D'julz who throws down the Foxxy EP and you can bet your ass it's hella sexy and well funky! "Ze Fox" (12" mix) is exactly the kind of deep down and dirty loop business that rips some fine disco joints into ergonomic perfection. The French Touch undoubtedly comes through on next offering "Big Kid" this is deeply uplifting house with a tough element to it with its gutsy rhythms and evocative strings. Finally "Next" is classic Julien Veniel; the kind of slinky and liquid grooves he was throwing down on 2020 Vision or Ovum in the early noughties.

Review: Another Bomb Strikes from the Prosper & Stabfinger duo, a phrase that works both on a theoretical level as well as a practical one. In short, thispair of breakbeat mashers are back with their inimitable style of groovy electro reworks. "Dopeness", the title tune, features Imagine This & Jui on the vocals, and it really is a perfect example of the best possible sort of modern boogie - phat bass lines over soulful vocals and kick ass disco beats. "Pay For Bass" is more of the same excellence, all thick beats and party-ready bumps, while "You're Wonderful" sounds like a trip back to the late 80s, a sound wrapped in an unmistakable early hip-hop flair, rewired and anted-up for maximum dancefloor effect and seamless DJ use. SLICK.

Review: New Yorker Anthony Parasole has been responsible for some of the most distinctive techno music of the past five years. Releasing mainly on The Corner, Dutch festival organisers Dekmantel have coaxed him to put out his debut album on their label. Infrared Vision builds gradually and incrementally, like one of Parasole's mesmerising DJ sets. It starst with the murky abstractions of
"Cold Steel" before moving into the deep house of "Murky Waters" and the skeletal drum tracks, "Explode" and "Momentum". The tempo and intensity levels ramp up on the dubby, bleep-heavy title track, while "Bizarre (Part 2)" rave influences are recycled. While "Spell On Me" sees him take a break with an ambient interlude, "The Chant", with its repetitive vocal sample and fat drums, shows that Parasole is most at home on the dance floor.

Review: Bay Area retrovert Matrixxman has become one of the most in demand producers of techno in the last couple years, due in so small part to some stellar releases on Delft, Spectral Sound and of course Dutch institution Dekmantel who now present the second installment of a triptych series. Following up the first volume Sector I: Rhythm, Sector II: Acid does exactly what it says on the tin: exploring the timeless capability of that little silver Roland box. He joins the dots between hypnotic techno and acid house on "Arrival" or "Rites" just as well as Scandinavian Varg can. Speaking of acid house: it's exactly that in all its vintage charm; it's like '88 all over again on "Bad Acid" or the absolutely explosive "I Am Matrix".

"Fruitloop VIP" sees the London artist returning to his last Dubz original and really rolling out the warm, buzzy, subby bassline with big-tease results. A fine spread.

Review: The Cold Busted imprint's got mad skillz at scouting out the best new talent for their catalogue, always feverishly sticking to their nu-school wave of all things jazz-related. In a sense, this is the perfect outlet for all those'jazz-dance' heads who spend the majority of their time digging up curious B-sides in the hope of finding some groove in their lives! Andyfellaz is a new name on the block but it feels like the artist has been making music for some time, as his style of sampling and looping feels both fresh and a little bit over on the left of field. Tunes like "Just One More Time" showcase the man's clear passion for raw, hazy jazz basements, while others like "Luna Roja" play a delightfully lounge mood that will fit here, there and everywhere. Perfect for your mid-morning Balearic deviations, too!

"Ruff Endz" is all about the buzzy higher end bass texture he's making his signature. Finally a cheeky VIP that doubles up the bassline pressure of last year's damager "Street Wars". Fresh.

Review: Boston's AXH is increasingly in the spotlight when it comes to deep, raucous dubstep vibes and, perhaps because he's from the other side of the pond, his material just seems to have something fresh and alluring about it - not to hype it up or anything! After a killer appearance on London's TEMPA not too long ago, the bad badboy runs two new dope tunes on the impressive Duploc imprint. "Witch doctor" blows a menacing, cosmic array of bass tones over a dismantled percussion beat, slamming all over the place like it's 2006, while "Lionart" takes some inspiration from the ragga school of thought in delivering its dutty, wobbling swarm of bass over deep, mystical roots vibes. Heavy.

Review: Dedicated to forging links between Hamburg and Berlin artists, it now seems that URSL is casting its gaze further afield. This split release seeks to explore outer space, a task that it commences in relatively low-key form with the mid-tempo acidic pulses of Ninze & Okaxy's "Apollo". The Innellea follow with a more foreboding contribution, "Ivy", which boasts a faster pace and and a bleak, ebm undercurrent. The space exploration mood changes again on Soukie & Windish's "Would You Swallow Your Thoughts?" as the URSL act probes the kind of spaced out deep techno groove that one would expect from Future Beat Alliance. Breky's "O Zi De Mai" is in a similar vein, albeit with a sax solo in the middle, while Jan Mir's "Love Face" is a slow-motion electronic disco workout.

Review: There's naturally been plenty of hype surrounding The Black Madonna's "He Is The Voice I Hear", which originally dropped on a single-sided 12" at the tail end of 2016. It's undoubtedly the fast-rising Chicagoan's best record to date, and feels like an unashamed tribute to Patrick Cowley's fine productions for disco icon Sylvester. While there are mournful notes - check the extended, beat-less piano intro -it doesn't take long to turn into a deliciously muscular, Italo-disco style chugger laden with razor-sharp strings, bubbling acid lines, and the kind of fluid piano solos that were once a hall mark of Frankie Knuckles' remixes. In other words, it's a fine contemporary disco record from one of dance music's most notable DJs of recent times.

Review: It's a perfect match; the dubwise sonic filter of L NIX is perfectly suited to what Iron Shirt Recordings have been focusing on for quite some time, and it makes this one of those releases that feels painfully right from the first moment it landed on our charts. The opening "Stumbles" lays out a clear and effective blueprint for the sort of shady, heavily moody bass vibes that follow on the subsequent 9 slabs of heartical drum-beating and hertz-morphing. "The Rift" is another peak moment on here, its stepping dub breaks guided by the subtle rap poetry of Ramai Lama, not to mention the grainy picture painted by "Viceroth", or the cold, ear-shaking artillery of percussion that's unleashed on "Bandits". If you like you step to be on the heavily dubby side then look no further than this sublime slice of dance sci-fi.

Review: Jumping Jelly Beans! The JBF fam aren't messing around here. After two major compilation album releases they now dive deep into the EP oceans with this slick and stripped-back broken funk collection from Manchester's House Jacking affiliate Korzi. "Tempest" is a serpentine spell, slithering around in the sub low shadows while "Sound Freq" rolls out with icy synth blasts, intoxicating percussion and a downpitched vocal sample that's not dissimilar to Josh Wink during his golden age. "Primal" ups the pressure further with pneumatic kick/hi-hat combinations and a bassline so creepy it should come with a medical warning. For added dankness hit Cloaka's relentless techno twist remix. Feeling Jelly yet?

Review: Marco Niemerski's latest outing under the now familiar Tensnake alias is a typically varied affair, with the long-serving producer variously joining the dots between druggy Italo disco, kosmiche, disco, electrofunk and deep house. Title track "Machines" sits somewhere between pitched-down Italo-disco and deep space cosmic disco, with Niemerski expertly working a druggy arpeggio bassline throughout. Elsewhere, "All In All" sees him build a wavy chunk of peak-time disco around a bongo-laden rhythm track, spacey electronics and an elastic bassline, while the wonderfully Balearic "1975" sounds like Daft Punk after several kilos of Morocco's finest and a fist full of happy pills.

Review: Scott Diaz has a sizeable discography to his name, so it's little surprise that his latest expansive EP for Grand Plans is a mature and superbly produced affair. Check, for example, the grown-up feel of opener "Mistreated", where heart-aching soulful house vocal samples ride a backing track full of jazz-flecked drums, twinkling music box melodies and yearning chords. The same sort of praise could be heaped onto the languid electric pianos, bumping beats and half spoken, half sung vocals of "Take It Back" (where vocalist KE urges us all to focus on the music, rather than the technology DJs now use), as well as the sample-heavy smoothness of "I Sold My Soul". In other words, it's a luscious EP for those who like their house deep and soulful.

Review: Nocturnal Activity was released by Mark Rae on Manchester's Grand Central Records, an independent record label back in 2002. It is a remix album, composed of alternative mixes of the tracks from the Sleepwalking LP, plus one new track, a cover version of the Parliament track "Flashlight". It contains some of the labels most sought after tracks. For the dancefloor, The Nextmen remix of "It Aint Nothin Like" is considered a classic. Atjazz turns in a magical remix with Kate Rogers on "Not Just Anybody". Groove Armada went on a weekend break to a country house to flip the Pharcyde's Booty Brown on "Let It Go". However the best is left to last with the fully acoustic version of "Get A Life" with soul legend Bobby Womack.

Review: During the 1990s, Chez Damier and Ron Trent's Prescription Records did more than any other label to define the sound of Chicago deep house. The label's reputation is such that it's still talked about in hushed tones, with lesser-known back catalogue nuggets remaining in-demand items with DJs and record collectors. This superb, double-disc compilation from Rush Hour tells the story of the label, gathering together both much-played underground anthems (Trent and Damier's "Morning Factory" and "The Choice", the proto-boompty-via-St Germain jazz-house of Angora's "Enchantment", and so on) and sought-after selections. Thrillingly, the collection also boasts a trio of previously unreleased Ron Trent cuts, all of which are superb.

Review: The Teflon Don returns to LDD with four more of his signature seismic bass sessions. "Bomb Squad" sees him colliding with Turno once again for another drama damager where big strings wrap tightly around a serious groaning bass hook while "Think First" whips up a storm with a classical lead that plunges into a crisp and infectious riff. Dig deeper into the collection for a frenzied Q&A-characterised master blaster ("History Making") and a thundering orchestra-charged harmonically-heaved shredder ("Art Form") Serious rawness.

Review: Sometimes it pays to be a label boss, like for example here, on this latest Bomb Strikes comp where head honcho Mooqee has decided to hand himself the reigns. Manning the decks for nearly an hour, he whips up a frenzy of party breaks delirium over the course of 24 tracks. The tracks are supplied individually too, with highlights including the tropical trap-house of "Ladies Look Pretty" by Basement Freaks, the furious electro-bass mash-up "Get Got (VIP mix)" by Nick Thayer & A Skillz and the strompingly retro electro-funk of "How We Do This" by Tom Booze.
