Equilibrium (original mix) - (8:34) 125 BPM Biggest-selling track on this release

Review: Leeds-based likely lads Audiojack have been in great form of late, with singles on Hot Creations and Crosstown Rebels introducing them to a new generation of DJs who may be unfamiliar with their earlier work on 20:20 Vision. "Spirit" is typically electronic, with much use of raw synths and crunchy drum hits, but also pleasingly tuneful thanks to rising and falling melody lines. The track's inherent cheerfulness and chiming synthesizer parts are emphasized further on Fort Romeau's stunning remix, which feels like one long sloppy French kiss under the influence of potent happy pills. To round things off, the Yorkshire duo gets back to basics on "Equilibrium", wrapping Red Zone style riffs and arpeggio melody lines around rolling deep house beats.

Review: It would be fair to say that Morgan Geist's Megaprojects series is an attempt to go "back to basics". Not only are the tracks created using - in his words - "cheap drum machines and vintage synths", but also pay tribute to some of his earliest inspirations. In practice, that means doffing a cap to fluid and ear-pleasing early deep house on the glistening "Manic Cinq", pitched-down Italo-disco and bass-heavy early British techno ("Fuzzy Detail") and tactile, breakbeat-driven late '80s house (the rather wonderful "Buy Freedom"). Arguably best of all, though, is closer "OCGC", whose psychedelic acid lines, tactile synth bass and cheery synth melodies make the track sound like a cross between vintage Metro Area and Orbital's "Halcyon".

Review: Well, we knew that this day had to come some time soon, but we didn't realise it was going to hit us this hard. Regis, real name Karl O'Connor, requires no introductions so we're not going to write one, but what we will say is that plenty of people round the Junodownload HQ have been awaiting for his debut LP from 1996 with a noticeable level of hysteria. Gymnastics, along with a few other key releases, single-handedly launched Regis onto the UK techno scene and helped him to redefine it after the days of hardcore and house. Aside from the fact that this gear sounds as fresh as it did over 20 years ago, every tune on this thing is a keeper; the likes of "Allies", "Translation", "Sand" have been imitated relentlessly by all the techno heads over the years and, if it weren't for this album or this man, the likes of Barghain would not exist in the same way. Nuff said. Essential.

Review: The Sheff City boys are back with 12 high calorie teatime treats all smothered in basslines that are thicker than chippy gravy! If Chip Shop vol 1 announced Chip Butty Recs as the new leading light of the 4x4 Garage sound, then volume 2 suggests that they plan to keep the heat on high at the fryery. Founding members deliver the on-point bangers that we have come to expect from them but it is the newcomers that bring the real sizzlers here; Rico Tibbs ascends to the skies with uplifting rave pianos on "Warning" Judge Chucky draws for the distortion on breakbeat-techno-bass hybrid "Customer Service". While Rolls Royce opts for an old school flex that we would love to see revived this summer festival season. Not a single dud spud in the batch!

Review: Fresh from kicking off a dust storm the size of Utrecht at Liquicity's summer festival, Bristol bassman Phaction makes his debut on their label with two of his jazziest cuts to date. "Unified Theory" slinks and slides with skippy beats, floating vocal refrains and a bassline so low hanging it needs new holes in its belt. "Ever Present", meanwhile, is a finger-clicking space-soul dreamboat that will guarantees dancefloor transcendence. Following his CIA EP, these cuts confirm that Phaction is having a banger of a year. Radar business!

Review: In one sense, Scandinavia is the perfect hub for creating dark and cerebral dubstep experiments. The cold weather and short days are an easy blend of circumstances which naturally spawn hours and hours on end in studios...and, of course, dark machine-drum music of all types. Sweden's Kloudmen duo are part of this dynasty, and they return to Encrypted Audio with a pair of proper stormers: "Badadoh" is a dubstep tune stuck in the grime days thanks to a rattling mutant bass and those inimitable pacman sounds moving back and forth; "Modu" is more your sort of 'traditional' dubstep weapon used by the likes of Mala or Coki in their legendary sets. Top gear.

Review: If you were around in 2006 and you hadn't heard Oxia's legendary anthem "Domino", you must have been sleeping under a rock! The track has certainly stood the test of time; so much so that the French producer has decided to celebrate its ten year anniversary with a series of remixes by some of the scene's current best. Some may if it 'aint broke why fix it? But rest assured that these renditions are equally worthy of your attention and come courtesy of Agoria's Sapiens imprint. They're all good, but our favourites had to be German duo; the Innervisions affiliated Frankey & Sandrino with their slinky and hypnotic take that shows us all just how you make a 'dark journey track', while m_nus alumnus Matador serves up a more hard hitting version where tough drums support adrenalised drones and Detroit style string stabs. Finally the master himself Robag Wruhme delivers the goods as always with his rather sublime "Lasika remix". The man's uncanny ability to recreate tracks that can compete with the original's quality is something to behold.

Review: Elephant Doc is up there among the more interesting of new bass talents on the street and, crucially, one of the few remaining dubstep producers who specializes in the deeper and darker end of the spectrum - a much needed rarity. "GG249 Dub" carries a powerful, heartical swing to make the steps supremely dubwise in a way that few other tunes have done in recent times; the likes of Mala would be very keen, indeed. Newcomer Perverse steps up for the remix duty, the artist comes through with a version carrying a lot more percussive weight and, of course, enough mutant bass to make Skream's early tunes seem antiquated by comparison. Well, at least this dude is pushing things forward!

Review: Wake Up marks a belated return to action from Liam Wachs, previously famous for helming the Desert Sound Colony project on Scissor & Thread. Now operating as DSC, this four-tracker is Wachs's debut solo release under the freshly minted alias. He serves up two top-notch original tracks: the loose-but-punchy deep house cut "Wake Up", where trippy, textured guitar and flute sounds combine with dreamy pads and a jaunty analogue synth bassline, and the Balearic techno throb of "Coming Round", which includes a stylish vocal from Wachs and some seriously rugged electronics. The accompanying remix package is headed up hotly tipped newcomer Elliot Anderson's sleazy Italo-disco style makeover of "Wake Up" (arguably the EP's standout moment), though Rex The Dog's rolling-but-wild house remake of "Coming Round" is also pretty strong.

Theme From Q - (7:20) 123 BPM Biggest-selling track on this release

Review: The fourth installment on Objekt's self-titled label has been one of the most eagerly awaited releases of 2017. So is it worth the wait? "Needle & Thread" is an atmospheric, mesmerizing stepper, with the UK producer's lithe, snappy drums underpinning swirling synths, hallucinogenic keyboard squiggles and deft filter action. However, "Theme from Q" is the track that has been praised by all. A tribute to the now shut Basement Q club, it sees TJ Hertz set a dinky house keyboard line to hiccuping drums, pressure cooker builds and a meaty bass to create the most distinctive break beat techno track since Kevin Saunderson's Reese project. On this rare occasion, the hype has been justified.

Review: A couple of years back, Rafael Top Secret - a selector known for digging deep for inspiration - delivered a tidy re-edit of "Sekele I Like It", a previously little-known Afro-boogie cut by French artist Robert "Bobby" Helms. Copies of the 1980 album it came from, Lay Down, Girl, now go for serious money, prompting this licensed reissue. Helms' brilliant, horn-totin' original is accompanied by another cut from that album, "Feet On The Ground" - a straight-up disco affair - and two new remixes. Baptman and Betino's "Philly Vibe" mix of "Sekele I Like" is a largely instrumental interpretation that includes some killer electric piano solos, with Vas Moody's "Feet On The Ground" remix taking that track in a tightly-wound dub disco direction.

Review: Back in the 90s, two fresh faced young DJs Seamus Haji (Big Love) and Aydin (ATFC) met whilst working together at Uptown Records in London (with an even younger Tim Deluxe). The rest as they say, is history. They've not collaborated in ages, so now is as good a time as any to put that right. The Club mix, "Confess" delivers what the pair do best - slammin', chunky, hands-in-the-air diva house that's all about the joy. The original version, based on an old demo of theirs, is less house, and more of a pure disco jam. Good times!

Review: While Dave 'Joey Negro' Lee is a man of many talents, it would be fair to say that his speciality is creating impeccable blends of disco, boogie and soulful house. That's exactly what you get from "Must Be The Music (Original Disco Mix)", a brilliantly breezy and club-ready excursion full of slick female vocals, Nile Rodgers style guitars, undulating strings and colourful, boogie style synth flourishes. In some ways, it feels like a slightly more house-centric take on Lee's similarly minded work as part of the Sunburst Band. It's accompanied by a superb dub, where Lee's chosen musicians take it in turns to deliver killer synth and guitar solos over a chunkier, boogie-driven beat. In other words, it's another strong release from the Z Records founder.

Review: Konichi and Decimal Bass: whether they're operating solo or in Annix unison, they're capable of making some of the sharpest, most forthright drum & bass known to man. Their debut album has had bass fans in a lather since they teased us with the gnarly halftime "Good For Nothing" and stompy Basement Jaxx-meets-Herve 4/4 gully stomper "Warriors". Beyond these off-piste adventures lies a whole slew of concentrated, unadulterated D&B science. From the one-punch jump-up smackers like "Low", "Afraid" and "Akshun" to the much deeper, liquid tones of "Forever" and dreamy Lenzmanisms of "Reverse Cold", this is the most detailed picture of both men's broadest abilities to date.

Review: Fingerman's Hot Digits imprint has always reflected his production style, delivering releases that gleefully blur the boundaries between re-edits, remixes and original material, and blend elements of disco, funk, soul, boogie and deep house. This groovy, warm and floor-friendly formula is much in evidence on this first anniversary compilation. Featuring a blend of previously released gear, exclusives and a bonus DJ mix from Fingerman, Hot Digits: Year One is an effortlessly entertaining collection. There's naturally much to admire, from the subtle house beats and P-funk synths of Fingerman's own "Shine Yo Litez" (a rework of an old Grangers tune), and the disco-funk chunkiness of Groove Motion's "Party Now", to the compressed, dubbed-out disco house madness of Chewy Rubs' "Let It Go".

Review: Jeepers creepers Simula's on the strong stuff again. Seriously...Take one listen to the textures on "Jester" and tell us that's the work of a sane mind. Strange, innovative and unique, it's just one of the six twisted sizzlers on parade here: the rifle-snipping laser love of "Gunfire", the sinewy croaks and 1.21 giggawatt power of the bass on "Trigger Happy" and the pure venom rust of "Swamped" are just a few of the many highlights. Strong enough to turn an intro into an extro, Simula doesn't mess around.

Review: Hot Creations gear up to drop the eagerly anticipated new release by Rowan Jones aka Route 94. Echoing the excitement that surrounded his number one hit "My Love" which propelled him to stardom in 2014, the release has been in serious demand for months. Title track "House & Pressure" contains the vocals from Joey Negro's classic "Ride the Storm" featuring Linda Clifford. The dominant female vocal on the track, combined with the force of the drum machines makes for quite a powerful production. The affectionately titled "Crazy Bitch" has more of a big room sound and incorporates ghetto house elements. "Dark Keyless" is the complete opposite, creating a groove that aims to grab the crowd and let them loose. With a wealth of new material still on the way and a hectic touring schedule in place, it's clear this is only the start for the young artist.

Review: Oh! It's the one like Badboe back to cause some havoc on our charts this week, and his return comes in the shape of three tasty floor bruisers that'll no doubt appeal across the board. First up, "Get Your Boogie On" manages to balance a sweet r&b vocal with crankin, Ice Cube-style rapping under a rolling, electro sort of groove. Prosper features on both of the following two tunes; "How Funk Is Your Chicken" is a vintage cruiser, all flashy hip-hop breaks and 80s vocalism, while "Gimme What You Got" takes the tempo right down to true hip-hop levels, sounding a little like the Black Eyes Peas back when they were on form. Yessah!

Review: Another year, another sterling slew of toxic jumpy underground darkness, Hizzleguy makes what appears to be his EP debut on Maji's Sweet Tooth. His biggest body of work since last summer's epic nine-track EP on Biological "Pure Energy", it's a six-track serenade to the Devil himself; the glitchy, sense-blurring computer funk of "Mutant", the grizzly high-toned bass spasms of "Carry You" and the skin-melting textures and pass of "Apocalypse" are three of many highlights.

Review: It's that time again where Dixon, Kristian Beyer and Frank Wiedemann serve up another edition of their Secret Weapons series which always lives up to its name; just they aren't that secret anymore thankfully! As always the Innervisions camp present a real mix up of names from across the board of house and techno and there's some pleasant surprises once again. Starting off with Belgian tech house heroes Raw District with the brooding and suspense filled "From The Inside" which is the kind of track you could really imagine Dixon playing to a festival crowd. Berlin legend Oliver Deutschmann (Falkplatz/Vidab) with the dreamy and hypnotic "Control" was great too. Elsewhere there's Southern German merchant of dark journey tracks Tim Engelhardt representing the new garde (alongside Bog) with "No More Words" featuring some wonky synth leads and minimal techno legend Marc Houle with the cheeky retro EBM jack of "Tomboyz". Honourable mention to the Valence/Delft affiliated GoldFfinch with the tough reductionist techno jam "The Hidden"

Review: Drum&Bass Arena: The longest-standing, and one of the most respected, platforms for all things jungle D&B celebrates an impressive 20 years in the game with this ridiculously hefty document that pays respect to the genre's every twist and turn. From scene-shattering megahits ("Tarantula", "Feel The Love", "Rock It", "Afterglow") to unarguable historical underground scene-smashing megabangers ("Machete", "Aztec", "Nasty Ways", "The View", "Champion Sound", "Turbulence", "Up All Night", "Deadline", Ram Trilogy's remix of "Pacman") by way of tracks that may have slipped under the radar ("Defcom 69", "What's Wrong", "Song For Lovers") the whole album is loaded to the lips with some of the most important records the genre's enjoyed in the last 20 years. Time to get nostalgic, time to fill those holes in your collection, time to educate your dancefloor. Here's to another 20 years!

Review: While the mighty Aswad once told us "Don't Turn Around", the even mightier Total Science have now advised us to "Turn Around"... And with its dreamy cosmic synths, surging vocal and classic snare rolling jungle break, we know whose orders we're going to believe. The fun doesn't stop there as the all star cast continues... Break joins the party for the bone-rattling Headzy tear-up "Big Time Winners", Calibre jumps on the remix tip with a delicate lilting twist on the Riya-fronted "Walk The Same Lines" and DLR taps in for the heads-down, purring-sub stepper "Too Close For Comfort". Heavyweight and high grade, this is an incredible EP.

Review: There's something pleasingly old-fashioned about Happy Again, an album of alternative versions and remixes of tracks from Eli Escobar's acclaimed Happiness full-length. Thanks to the presence of DJ-friendly dubs, rhythm tracks and acappellas, it feels like Classic looked to the pioneering remix albums of the 1980s for inspiration. What really makes it stand out, though, is the quality of the material. Kon's rework of "Happiness (Part 2)" offers the perfect balance between subtle house and voodoo disco, while Soulphiction and Soul Clap steal the show with contrasting deep house takes on "Can't Stop Dancing" and "4 Luv". We're particularly impressed, too, with the freestyle-tinged revision of "Chaka Khan" by The Carry Nation, while Escobar's own dub of "Happiness (Part 2)" is a loose, warm and groovy treat.

Review: Raising tension and attention with every release right now, Natty Dub return with yet another BS-free collection from some of the underground's most respected individuals. T>I loosens the bass strings for his slinked out dark-jazz stepper "Regulate", Hoogs puts all the aces in their places with a precision space-reggae gully jam "R Ting", Coda goes all bubble-bass a la mid 90s V on "Back It Up" and Jaxx & Dub General roll out with pure grumble groove and classic jump up spoken samples. Finally Flat T brings business to a close with a deal-breaking late 90s Bristol-flavoured cut where the spooked-out bass has a life of its own. Immense.

Review: People often forget that the widely-praised Robert Johnson club is actually from Offenbach and not Frankurt, a small town situated about 10 miles out of the city centre. Over the last few years, there's been a resurgence of talent emanating from the town, such as DJ Slynsgshot and his Yappin collective and associated artists like the Vincent Feit who opens the clubs thurd instalment of the Lifesaver series with a naughty little house melter called "X04". Across the comp, other RJ casuals appear, such as Massimigliano Pagliara with "Forever What", an aptly tropical house excursion, or Philip Lauer, Fort Romeau and the lesser known Felix Strahd. All in all, this is about the best house/techno compilation we've received all year and, like everything else the club does, it is an excellent addition to their catalogue. 10/10.

Review: Get Fluxed Volume III couldn't have come at a better time; the summer heat is out and these garage drums aren't exactly gonna play themselves now are they!? Featuring Martin McFly's infamous Nike spacers on the cover, this jam-packed comp of goodness features all of the label's biggest names and, of course, the creme-de-la-creme of UK house music. Sitting somewhere on the hardcore continuum between garage and breaks, the likes of Pharaoh K, Joedan, Pelikann and Krissi B, among others, set out what will surely be THE bass release of the summer in terms of DJ playback. This is the sort of gear you hear out on the beach at Pula's mighty Outlook festival. Sun's out, bass out.

Review: Skinnerbox have released on respected labels like Bpitch Control and Darkroom Dubs, and now bring their free-wheeling techno and house sound to Tiga's label. "Gender" sees the German duo deliver a raw, rolling groove that unfolds to out-there vocal samples. It's an unpredictable arrangement and is a welcome alternative to sterile house music. Turbo have commissioned a stellar cast to rework it; this includes Axel Boman, who starts with an epic, flute-laden intro before moving into a loose tribal groove populated by menacing horns, and Auntie Flo, whose take resounds to chiming bells and layers of organic percussion. As a digital bonus, Ellen Alien delivers a storming, acid-filled rework with the original vocals disappearing in the wake of militaristic claps and Mike Dunn-style riffs.
