Review: Aside from killing it on the artwork front, the Iberian Juke label has established itself as one of the leaders in the footwork game. There isn't much that label has released which we haven't gotten excited about, so this new compilation feels like one of those mega-packs which we'll blast out on the speakers over the next few weeks. Believe us, with the quantity of music going through our charts, that is quite an unbelievable achievement for any label. Rather than try to unpack the entire comp for you, and actually risk spoiling the fun, we simply got to say that this is one of the most diverse juke releases we've ever heard. The genre can suffer from isolations at times, risking to sound rather uniform, but this gear touches many different points of heat spots for us. There's everything from jazz to techno in there, all blended into a delicious cocktail of fast-paced percussion bundles and high-tech drum swings. We highly recommend this thang...

No Matter What (Electribe version) - (4:08) 129 BPM

Review: While some of his peers surround themselves by endless mountains of plug-ins and libraries, Mistabishi continues on his own mission of machine purity and true focus with the next instalment of his "Read/Write" series. Now in full-on album form, the concept remains consistent: to create everything from one machine and record in one take. Squeezing the Korg Electribe for everything its worth (and more) the full range here is incredible; from the nightmare soundtracking clunks and grizzles of "Declension" to the euphoric rocket thrusters of "Nominative" to the broken glass rhythm and pounding kicks of "Sortal", not only does this bang but shows how much just one machine can do when in the right hands. Ultimately timeless.

Review: Here we have a real meeting of minds with the esteemed re-edit label Gamm recruiting Glasgow's very own nu-disco veteran Al Kent to serve up some more of his fine work for our listening pleasure. There are just two cuts featured here, but who needs quantity when you can have quality, eh? "So Good" sees a sultry seductress heavily breathe her words over a smouldering Love Hangover-style twanging groove. "Victorious" meanwhile incorporates 70s disco rock, over-excited clavinets and bongos galore. Heavy-duty boogie vibes!

Review: From Prolix to Technimatic, Total Science to Was A Be by way of Icicle, Joe Ford, Fourward, Spectrasoul, Phace, Ed.It and many more, Friction's label digs deep from the genre's most innovative corners and eras. As we prepare to close off 2016, they've taken a detailed look back over the last 18 months of crucial output to not just represent where the label is at, but the genre itself. An ideal opportunity to fill any holes in your collection cuts such as Fourward & Linguistics demonic stomper "Storm", Was A Be's rudeboy-slewing halftime damager "Blind" or Break's sparkling "Emerald" and complete with a journeyman mix of the tracks themselves, this rounds up yet another serious year at the very forefront of drum & bass.

Review: The hype's been building. The beef's been cooking. This is one of Xtrah's most talked about EPs so far. Naturally the music speaks for itself... From the elastic purring drones and jazzy subtleties of opening track "The Embarkment" through the final militant dischordant stutters and pneumatic flickers of the final track "Fragments" this is a lesson in rolling, understated, uncompromised underground drum & bass. The tribal groans and cymbal splashes of "Disturbance", the skitty energy of "Tibetan Funk", the electrified sizzling bassline of "Babylon Shall Fall"... It's all about precision produced dark funk. Spacious and to the point.

Review: Brooklyn's Razor-N-Tape reach out to the Lowlands and coax Hans Peeman into donning his Junktion alias for a new four-track EP on their Razor-N-Tape Reserve label. Living up to it's dignified and reserved billing, this release on the offshoot finds the Nijmegen-based Peeman laying down some luscious, colourful disco vibes that will brighten up any sun laden afternoon on the terrace. Title track "Hot & Bothered" sets the tone with a summery vibe underpinned by some bumping drums, whilst "I'm wishin'" glides with a subtle house bump and some wonderful vocal touches. "Fling Cleaning" sees Peeman veer off into disco chug territory, whilst "Visions of You" ends the EP on a soulful note.

Review: A decade has passed since Tom Bioly and Benjamin Frohlich launched their Permanent Vacation label with a compilation of the same name. This fourth instalment sticks to the same formula as its' predecessors, serving up evocative, emotion-rich music that's tickled the fancy of Bioly and Frohlich over the last two years. Predictably, there's much to enjoy throughout, from the hammock-fresh laziness of Carrot Green's dreamy "Vodou", and the instrumental, Balearic synth-pop of Fantastic Man's "Seaside Special", to the tribal drums, jazz bass and ghostly chords of Benedikt Frey's "Lucid Dream". They predictably finish with a flourish, following Mapache's hallucinatory deep house shuffler "Let Me Sleep", with the dubby Balearic beauty of Suzanne Kraft's blissful "Tiles".

Review: Slow and steady: LSB has been known to heads for years now but he's never hurried himself, he's never carved out identikit formulas for the sake of fans, he's never played the predictable games. In true Soul:r style (a label he's now fully signed with) he's focused on ensuring he only releases his very best material since day one. Naturally his album is no different; the gentle fades of "Lydian", the raw emotion of "Circle", the outright epicity of the 8-min "Blinding", the sad farewells of "Missing You"... Every second of the album has been considered and delivered with real thought and detail. Contented? You will be.

Review: Craig Charles is many things to many people - to some he's Dave Lister in Red Dwarf, to others he is the guy with class A's and jazz mags in the back of a taxi and to others he's one of the UK's finest soul DJs. Here we find him in the latter role, thankfully, introducing us to his fourth annual Funk & Soul Club collection. This time he presents 19 soulful gems. Highlights include the Chaka Khan-style "Family Tree" by Kylie Auldist, The Traffic's bombastic and brassy cover of "White Lines" and the effervescent 1960s soul homage "Next Time" by The Tibbs.

Review: Toy Tonics are getting their money's worth out of Kapote. Since making his debut for the label 18 months ago, the Berlin-based producer has had a hand in no less than four other EPs. There's no messing around on this latest four-track missive, as he launches himself at the dancefloor with the rubbery, punk-funk bass, fizzing percussion and jazzy disco samples of "The Nose". He heads for smoother, groovier deep house pastures on "Get Down Brother", before dipping the tempo a little on the shuffling, pie-eyed disco-house goodness of "Uhh Baby". That track also gets the remix treatment from Irish twosome Brame & Hamo, whose jazzy-but-driving interpretation makes excellent use of clattering drum machine hi-hats.

Review: It's kinda rare to see an artist delivering a full drum and bass album these days, but that's just how Nu Elementz like to vibe. Prophecy is a complete master blaster of an LP, with thirteen tracks of wild and diverse jump-up steppers charged and motored by devious swarms of mutant bass, reminding us of the that DJ Hazard school of thought that made the Playaz label what it is today. Tunes like "Speed Of Sound", "Evolution", and "Pablo Escobar" are the sort of gear you can break out if you're need of something nasty, something to bump sideways to amid a sea of hungry ravers. There are deeper moments, too, such as "Respect" or "Never Forget" featuring longtime drum and bass don Majistrate. No funny business, just pure rave vibes.

Review: Och has been a regular fixture on Baby Ford's Trelik label in recent years, and he returns with the late night delights of the Love Unconditional EP sounding stronger than ever. "Sunday Love" is a warm and cosy bumper, keeping the keys bright and breezy while the beat skips away dutifully before the more heads down thrust of "More Journeys Into Swing". The real star of the show though is "Love Unconditional", a particularly gripping track that unfurls seductive synth licks and vocal licks on a trip to nocturnal body jam perfection.

Review: Skeptical & Alix Perez... Contemporary drum & bass production tag-teams really don't get any sharper, deeper or slicker. Following previous collaborations "Elephant Dreams" and "Room 667" with four stark cuts, get ready for a lean, mean adventure: "Without A Trace" grunts with a grainy textured hook that's one of a kind, "Solitude" stutters and wriggles with minimal mystery - each of the key ingredients comprising a beastly groove that defies the sum of its parts. Further into the odyssey we hit the incredible oceanic synth bliss, cosmic soul and jungle tidal waves of "Taurus" and get our creps stuck in the gooey swampy halftime gully soup of "Killa". Crucial.

Review: We're not sure how much The Force sold his soul for, but we reckon Beelzebub must have given him a handsome deal as there are some seriously savage skills at play here. The hurricane bass harmonics on "Sold My Soul To The Devil", the Die-style bass mischief of "Field Of Vibrations", the "Nightflight" style sub flutters of "Looking For Trouble" and the balance of dreamy strings and early Playaz style bass riffage on "Kick The Flow". The whole package is authentic, true to the craft and original. May The Force be with you.

Review: This triple-album collection is something of a treat for Prins Thomas fans. Released as an accompaniment to his epic, three-disc Paradise Goulash mix, it's entirely made up of previously unreleased re-edits from the Norwegian maestro. Musically, it's as cosmic and varied as you'd expect, variously touching on ambient (Claude Speed), Balearic jazz (Gabor Szabo), Middle Eastern oddness (Cat Trance), synth-samba (Richard Schneider Jnr), modern classical (a Johanna Billings cover of Arthur Russell's "This Is How We Walk On The Moon"), and all manner of hazy, sun-kissed grooves. There's little slamming dancefloor fare, but plenty of unique versions of overlooked, little known or forgotten musical gems. For that alone, it should be an essential purchase.

Review: Black cotton: the racy yin to white mink's raunchy yang, Freshly Squeezed squeeze into their slinkiest number and lay down five more unabashed versions on classic speak easy standards. Highlights include the insane energy and juicy funk of Wolfgang & Louie's "Puttin' On The Ritz", the floor-burning D&B mischief of Mista Trick's "Swinging All Day" and the sudden switch into an almost rocky stomp on Pisk's "One Steady Roll". Teases and pleasers with nothing but authentic instrumentation and preemo prohibition party vibes.

Review: One for the Heds... Cambridgeshire's Hedex returns to Guv's Dub with two almighty crowd-bumpers. "Orange" is every bit as zesty as you'd hope; the nasty, teeth-baring harmonic riff carries a strangely uplifting melody before dropping into breakdown of pure trance euphoria. "Smokers" is more to-the-point thanks to its grunting bass riff, sweeping drum elements and techno-like aesthetics in mid-section. Smoking.

Review: Brett Johnson was always one of the most innovative house producers and this release for the re-launched Classic shows that he hasn't lost his signature sound. On the OG Demo mix of "Mr Johnson's Talk'n Now", he lays down a gritty, stripped back house groove, replete with lo fi blips and bursts of noise that accompany wired, weird vocal samples. The 'Luke's Video Games Rework' is just as off-beat, with the vocals deeper in the mix and a furious stab taking centre stage, while the 'BJ Revamp' remix swings back towards Johnson's wild, stripped back sound. Only on "Give It To Them" does he opt for a more conventional approach, with a disco stab riding the relentlessly jacking groove.

Review: Two longstanding Sub-Liminal soldiers collide with hair-raising results... Too Greezey takes the lead with a brilliantly wobbly-bottomed funk-licked viber "Cutting Shapes" while Agro taps in Chats MC for a diamond dynamic sub-driven stepper. Both fully focused on the dancefloor with a real nod to the mid 90s Playaz and Full Cycle sounds, this is a seriously strong release.

Review: Hatzler only has a few releases to his credit, but as Another Life demonstrates, he is clearly destined for great things. "Collider" is a big room affair, its pumping groove underpinning metallic riffs, rave stabs and percussive blasts. The end result is an ominous but undeniably accessible arrangement. On the title track, the German producer draws on the legacy of artists as varied as Timo Maas and Thomas Heckmann to create a menacing techno-trance workout that is destined for peak time festival usage - its stroboscopic stabs and gnarly bass guarantees it. The remixes come from Metodi Hristov - who adds some pumping techno attitude to "Life" - and Citizen Kain & Kiko's linear take on "Collider", but neither can touch the original versions.

Review: Milton Keynes High R8 Digital are back with more dark side drum and bass shenanigans courtesy of their most recent recruits. Starting out with Hoogs' "The Comet (Majistrate remix)" which is reminiscent of classic Andy C or DJ Zinc from the early noughties, there's honourable mentions also to Sub Killaz with their stripped back and absolutely sketchy offering "Horror (Nu Elementz remix)" and of course Filthy Habits' "Hidden Secrets (Upgrade remix)" which is a seriously wonky journey through the dark side of breakbeat science. His remix up next of Dub Berzerka's "Born Bad" likewise demonstrates that this fella certainly 'ain't messing around!

Review: LA's Rigopolar is an 80s-inspired dude who makes grade A space-disco. His latest, Tour De Mal, arrives courtesy of Tom Tom Disco and what a treat it is! The EP opens with the trancey new beat swing of "Need You" (which borders on Chemical Brothers territory a bit). "La Mal" is the kind of deep and dirty drone-disco that Ivan Smagge or Chloe love and it's awesome. "Youth" meanwhile, is a slower, loop based hypno house odyssey. Then heavy hitter Rodion arrives brandishing a trademark sinister acid grind of a remix and it all kicks off. Ace.

Review: 48 tracks? Asbo you are truly spoiling us. The quality is as high as the quantity too; a selection of Asbo classics and brand new flavours we're taken from smooth silky rolling soul such as Westy's "Making Moves" and jazzy V-style thunder like Savannah's "Glide Away" to hurricane amen depth (Dawn Raid, Gold Dubs & Jinx - "Old Fashioned") and classic mid 90s style jump-up ruffage (Cabin Fever's remix of "Raw Dogs") via warm-as-toast dub soul a la Vinyl Junkie & Sanxion's "Talk Too Much" and Daffy's beautiful "Love Dub". And that's only an eighth of killer cuts on here. Easily one of the best tenners a junglist can invest this month.

Review: Like Ricardo Villalobos and Luciano, Guti brings Latin American musical influences to bear on his music. Unlike these minimal techno kingpins however, Guti's album doesn't just sample sources. "Una Tarde Con Pedro" and "Al Viento" are mournful piano-led workouts and "My Whole Thing" combines a seductive female vocal with infectious Latino drums. Indeed, while Patio De Juegos does have a dancefloor sensibility, its most rewarding moments occur when Latino influences feature. "Still Here" is a beautifully melancholic, understated groove, "Shame" is underscored by shaking percussion and a snaking bassline and Guti uses infectious piano keys and a sassy rhythm to devastating effect on "All The Girls".

Review: It's been a while since Higher Stakes invited us for a game. Following "Full House" and "Crazy Eights" in previous years, Sly returns with another winning shuffle. A near album-sized game, there's some mean strategies at play: highlights include the early Die-style bass and guitar licks of "M1", the electrical high-range bass stings and soapy sample play on "EastEnd" and the wobbly brilliance and outstanding vocal processing of "Gas Bag". Aces.

Review: Second To None headmasters take us back to school with three broadsword 130 bass four-steppers "Spin The Dubplate" kicks with classic strutting UKG beats but rumbles the horns and harmonic bass of grime while MC Pean spits down the law chapter and verse. "Mucky" dips much lower into the bass swamp with a classic organ-style squelch guiding us through spacious, switchy drum arrangement. "Cloud 9" flips the contrast button with a superb breakbeat garage roller laded with crisp soulful vocals. Hypho brings the damage on his "Spin The Dubplate" for bonus grades. Power up.

Review: Hamburg house heroes Diynamic are back with Four To The Floor 08 where they serve up some tough main room tech house to get your people moving! First up is the Afro futurist journey that is "Zulu" by Brigado Crew & Crisstiano which will appeal to fans of Innervisions or Yoruba Soul. The harbour city's favourite sons Adana Twins serve up the dark journey track "Uncompromising" which will transfix crowds with its sense of dancefloor drama. Rafael Cerato & Artbat's soulful tech house journey "Uplift" had us reminiscing about the Dennis Ferrer sound of old while finally Definition's "Pretend To Fly" is certainly geared for those hands in the air moments; expect a reaction from the crowd when this one drops. Either when that roaring vintage synth arpeggio comes creeping in or the heartfelt vocals alike.

Review: Sweden's Noah Gibson first appeared in 2015 on his local imprint Krasch Records, in addition to a release on TANSTAAFL and his own Trouble In Paradise imprint which he runs with Henrik Bergqvist. It's quite impressive that his sixth release thus far in such a short amount of time lands on Marcel Dettmann's esteemed imprint. A New Day features six cuts of raw and jacking analogue techno shenanigans which are quite a departure from the label's usual preference for harsh and industrial greyscale techno excursions. Gibson's style is somewhat reminiscent of the rusty analogue punk of homegrown heroes like Frak at times; especially on the lo-fi electro funk of "Silent Install" which was real style. However, the high octane clang and clatter of "Origin" and the cyclical thump of "Tilt" (MD Edit) will have the MDR faithful satisfied for sure.
