Review: Stafford's Dave Gerrard has been around for over 30 years so you can trust the DJ on this one. He's back on his usual stomping ground for more disco goodies on DJ Butcher's Chopshop out of Athens, Greece. He first takes the knife to the Jackson 5's "Dancing Machine" on "Generation 5" (great edit this one!), then he turns in an edit of a proper soul funk classic on "Repeat The Funk" (any guesses?) but finally he gives a Bill Withers classic a makeover on "You Got The Stuff". Class!

Review: Russian disco edit fiend Valique serves up another hot Boogie Box and we're up to number three already! Highlight's on here not limited to Princess' smooth ergonomics displayed on the re-splice of the Prince classic "Sexy Dancer", Feel The Vibe's great cover of "Get Down Tonight" looped for your pleasure by Kc/Sub and they save the best for last with Mr Faded/Blackhead's (aka McFadden & Whitehead's) 1979 classic "Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now". They are all 're-re-edited' by the way: by none other than Valique himself. Trust the DJ!

Review: Everyone remembers their first smoke... All coughs and splutters and general false feelings that the illusion of big time adulthood can only bring. Here we find jungle next-genners Dutta & Bou looking back over their first puff with an introspective, harp-plucking, sample-flexing exercise in timelessness. It's joined by an equally well-measured sense of depth on the hip-hop laced "Running It" and a awesome balance of shade on "The Barrons" as tripletty jump-up gutterage switch to dream dynamics on the fills and breakdown. Those looking for a straight up blast on 20 filterless tar-ticklers should jump on "The Game"... Something which Dutta & Bou are currently big in.

Review: Munich-based Alkalino (aka Lino Rodrigues) has been delivering top notch re-edits for years now, so there's no chance of him quitting, despite the title of his new series. We've seen the list of his upcoming releases, and these are certainly not his Last Edits. There are quite a few newbies on here, eight to be precise so there's a lot to choose from. Our favourites happen to be the dreamily seductive disco throb of "Body & Soul", the austere mechanics of New Order redux, "How Do I Feel" and the low slung driving space disco of "We Got It".

Review: Brooklyn's Razor-N-Tape reach out to the Lowlands and coax Hans Peeman into donning his Junktion alias for a new four-track EP on their Razor-N-Tape Reserve label. Living up to it's dignified and reserved billing, this release on the offshoot finds the Nijmegen-based Peeman laying down some luscious, colourful disco vibes that will brighten up any sun laden afternoon on the terrace. Title track "Hot & Bothered" sets the tone with a summery vibe underpinned by some bumping drums, whilst "I'm wishin'" glides with a subtle house bump and some wonderful vocal touches. "Fling Cleaning" sees Peeman veer off into disco chug territory, whilst "Visions of You" ends the EP on a soulful note.

Review: The Rev's back! Parisian edit magician serves up four revised soul excursions for modern audiences to experience the second time around and in true style. On the first side he takes the knife to a couple of Gladys Knight classics, namely the feel-good "Don't Make Me Run Away" and the uplifting "Love Gives You The Power". On the flip it's George Duke's turn, "Say That You Will" is you all know is a sultry deep soul number for lovers while "Party Down" is definitely for night people; this one is pitched up for optimum dancefloor effectiveness too!

Played by: Philth
Review: Ginger maestro Philth continues this year's all-out assault with a return to Dispatch. First we hit "The Circle" as he teams up with Wreckless for a minimal stepper that's all growls and gurgles over a dagger-blend two-step. "Yeti", meanwhile, reminiscent of the late 90s, Bad Company era of distortion and real machines and the hivemind heaviness of "Sphere Of Influence" is a dense weave of ghostly tones and precision engineered dynamics. Those looking for more of an emotional uplift and feel-good pay-off should jump straight on Philth's remaster of his own 2014 Dispatch debut "Your Love" while those looking for a barbed happy slap with sharp shards of emotional uplift should jump on SCAR's remix. What a package.

Review: Whoever said that disco was dead was not aware of Dr Packer and his life-restoring scalpel skills. The cover of this eighth installment of edits reveals the good doc and colleagues hard at work resurrecting a giant disco ball and the sonic results can be heard on this mini-album. Highlights include the slinky clap-along, "Somebody Else", the noodle-bass moog boogie of "Xpand Your Mind" and the breaks-laden cocktail grind of "Tropical Jump". Good to hear disco has checked outta hospital and back on the dancefloor in full health.

Review: Despite hailing from modern day Norway, Lux Experience's heart remains firmly in the USA during the heady days of the 1970s. Nothing wrong with that as nothing really tops the thrill of the original disco explosion during that wild decade. Here he unearths four more long gems from that time and retweaks them for contemporary dancefloors. "Street Disco" is and accelerated proto-hiHRG opener, "Your Luv" begins as classic French Touch-style diva loops before expanding into more stripped backed boogie and "Freak Mouse" is a bass driven chant-along. Lastly "Prance With Me" wraps things up with some seriously elastic party vibes.

Review: Longtime Headz affiliate and frequently Goldie's co-pilot in the studio, Heist returns to the label with his largest EP to date and its business from of the off as "Violent Rain" oozes Timeless era synth tones and drums so live and sweaty you can almost see the drummer's sweat coming from your speakers. Dig deeper for Heist's most versatile showcase in years: "In Pursuit" is all stripped back and slinky (think Enei but wider), "Sierra Mist" is a sci-fi stepper that nods towards Riya's soulful style, "Unauthorised Transmissions" is a cheeky underground squelcher, "Grebe" is thoroughbred alien funk with just a sly nod towards his more standard jump-up signature while "Ghost On My Shoulder" closes the show on a beautiful glitchy vibe that's somewhere between Culprate and Squarepusher. Properly unique, creative and immaculately produced, Heist has smashed it on this one.

Review: Influx:Audio is a label celebrating the thriving bass scene of their native Yorkshire. One of their shining stars is Pavv (ironically from Brighton) who has made a big splash in the UK bass scene with releases for the likes of U Wot Blud? Here they invite him to reveal his top artists and tunes happening right now and he doesn't disappoint, delivering 10 bleeding edge jams including the space-age UKF of "Things I Do" by Deadbeat UK, the percolating bass gargles of "Nod Ya Head" by Spookz and Pavv's own quirky take on wobble-heavy 4 x 4, "Everyday".

Review: Given his credentials and track record, it's unsurprising that original disco and boogie artists are willing to let Joey Negro play around with their biggest hits. His first stab at this kind of multi-track remix, 2014's Remixed With Love, was such a success that he's decided to unleash another swathe of revisions over two vinyl double-packs. This edition features some killer reworks, including a sublime, on-point rearrangement of Gwen McRae's "Keep The Fire Burning" and a rolling, dubbed-out version of Grace Jones' "Pull Up To The Bumper" that rivals Larry Levan's classic remix. The veteran producer also successfully turns Pockets' "Come Go With Me" into a classic soulful house rub, and pushes Thelma Houston's "I'm Here Again" further towards disco anthem territory.

Review: We're unsure how many parts are in this series but, reading between the lines, this could well mark the start of a new album from The Upbeats. Five tracks of raffish, stripped back sweatiness, there's no holding back: "Dr Kink" takes sonic surgery to dangerous new levels, "Pharaoh" sees them colliding with Ivy Lab to show their deeper, rolling, pensive side while "Dungeon" and "Doom" are straight up slap-fests of the highest neuro order. The hazy, soft-focus textures of "Elevator" provide the soft cushion as we crash back to reality. Looking forward to part two... And maybe even part three!

Review: Full throttle jump-up business, Dominator and Nu Elementz finally deliver two of the subgenre's biggest ID requests this year so far. "Dimension" rides with a pulverising drill bass that fluctuates through the tones on every eight. "Spartanz", meanwhile, adds a cheeky breakbeat swing in the background as a darker, oakier bassline takes the lead with a Q&A riff before dropping into a string-laced breakdown from out of nowhere. Deadly.

Review: The first compilation on Koze's Pampa label is a lovingly curated affair. It starts with the left field house of Herbert's take on Lianne La Havas and Ada's r&b-infused "You & Me", as well as DJ Koze's own hymnal take on Roman Flugel's "9 Years". Other Pampa regulars like Axel Boman are well represented and he provides the ultra-mellow "In The Dust of This Planet". Equally though, Koze also provides a platform for newcomers to the fold. There's the utterly bizarre, glitch-hop of Nasrawi and Funskstorung's contributions, and at the other end of the spectrum, wide-eyed deep house from Mount Kimbie and Jamie xx & Kosi Kos' pumping indie-dance "Come We Go".

Review: Jaydan's label comes correct with its first ever multi-artist album featuring some its most exciting artists and affiliate and a widescreen snapshot of where both Smokin Riddims and underground D&B in general is at right now. Highlights include the Mind Vortex style electricity of Shifta's "Deadfall" Leaf's skippy, twisted roller "Dis Style" and the abyss-level sub bass depth plunges on Upfront & Aesthetics' "Touch" but that's just a small selection of what's on offer here. Jaydan doesn't do things by halves, Serious Selection is proof that lives up to its name.

Review: Michael The Lion differs from the average re-edit chancer by actually recording extra musical parts for his re-tweaks. Here on his Most Known Edits EP he applies extra guitars, bass, keyboards and percussion to a selection of fairly well known 70s dance tunes. First up the immortal Love Hangover by The Fifth Dimension gets some extra bounce and fizz on "The Hangover", "Know This" sees the raw emotion of the People Choice original gently beefed up and filled out, "Fly Robert" is a chugging boogie locomotive of a tune and "Bo Knows" ends things with a Latin-tinged percussive spectacular.

Review: KS French and Mr Given Raw are like two peas in a pod. A disco-shaped pod. Here they join forces again, both providing both solo tracks and a joint collaboration too. Label boss KS French plonks a platform show on the dancefloor first with the tight James Brown-sampling funk of "Still On the Case". Then MGR takes over for two sizzlers - the catchy soul-pop lament "Beggin You" and the psychedelic soul stomp of "Funky Mama". Finally the titans clash on the phased disco-boogie joy of "Never Give You Up". Good times.

Review: Serum isn't messing around at the moment. Not like he ever messed around before, but it's clear he's upped his game even more this year. Making his debut on Doc Scott's 31, "Species" is a rattling dark stepper with loose, swinging drums and a droning ghostly bass gurgle that groans in and out of the mix with raw paranoia. "Red Blood" continues the dark drone theme with more heads-down messages. Rocking a Jim Morrison-style sample from The Zodiac, there's a nice touch of psychedelia amid the gritty dynamics. Proper.

Review: Here come the remixes: Dub Damage look back to last year's four-year birthday album with two barn-burning twist-ups. Annix get their paws mucky on Blackmarket and Chapo's already-stunning "USS Enterprise" by switching out the classic Urban Takeover sub rolls for something altogether eviler and sharper. Meanwhile Harvest takes T>I's stripped back stepper "Grudge Fcuk" and injects it with jet engine reese that's so wide and overwhelming you might have to have a sit down after hearing it. No messing around at all on this one.

Review: Have you ever known a Fourfit EP to be bad? No, neither have we. Following the likes of Adred, Calibre and LSB, Seba continues Soul:R's age-old traditional of innovation and forward-thinking aceness with his take on the label's four track EP series: "Hide The Tears" is the emotional heart-string snapper of the set, "Dark Horse" showcases Seba's absurd drumfunk science, "Fade To Red" takes the halftime approach and gives it a toxic twist while "Desire" closes the show on another emotional flex as swooning chords counterbalance hoover-style stabs in style. Seba on Soul:R... As you'd expect, it's a winning combination.

Review: Ever since their first releases on 20:20 Vision back in 2005, Art Of Tones have steadily grown into purveyors of fine deep house, and you can rest assured that you'll always receive nothing but quality from them. As of late, they've been more closely associated to London's House Of Disco Records, an imprint onto which they return to herein with three smackers, starting with the disco-laced groove that is "Devil The Difference", a soulful house joint with nothing but vibes spilling from every corner. On the flip, "Boogie With Billy" adopts a similar formula to a more electronic rhythm that recalls material from the mighty 80's imprint SAM, while the 'future dub' of "Devil The Difference" twists the original into a deeper, more heady cut for the deep hours...

Review: Kent producer Macky Gee inaugurated his own Down 2 Earth Musik back in late 2014 with the Evolution EP, and the label's gone on to release music from Good 4 Nothing bossman Complex and Rawtee. A label is sometimes defined by the album projects it releases, so in the case of Down 2 Earth Musik and Macky Gee's Sway, it should be regarded as one of modern day drum and bass's go to platforms for the nastiness. This is his third album of a prolific career thus far, and finds the Mackster further perfecting his template for stern faced dancefloor dynamite across 16 tracks. Look out for MC Skibadee who brings his iconic delivery to two tracks.

Review: Bristol's X-Ray Ted is about the light and fun party jams, no cool digger's obscurities welcome here. Here he serves four guaranteed floor fillers starting with "Mild Mild West", a loose-limbed disco rendition of the Good The Bad and The Ugly theme, next "Too Good" sees Aretha Franklin get a house-shaped whoosh under her backside, "EveryMoney" meanwhile sees some vintage soul fused with classic Kelis and ODB and finally "Hold Tight" sees the show close with some sizzling neon-flecked arpeggiated disco..

Review: Cruising in the slipstream of Micky Finn and Voltage's artfully punned Finntage project comes more Finn fire. This time he's rolling with one half of Serial Killaz, Vital Elements and they've cooked up two enormous bangers. "So Good" looks back to the early 2000s - Grimy-era Dillinja, Safari-era Bad Company - its two note bass hook is an instant hype hair-raiser with a great balance of drama and unpolished edge. "True Guidance" is similarly heritage-minded with more of a "Nightflight" rolling vibe but with added dubby dynamics. Complete with various edits of "So Good", this is a dynamite package from two of the scene's most authentic veterans.

Review: G13 rewind to two of their many heavy-hitting highlights and revise with two killer remixes: Pacso's 2011 breakthrough bumper "The Trick" gets a turbo-charged twist from Turno as the original's dense layers are peeled away to make sure the cinematic arpegiated sample and bullish bass hook are brought much closer to the fore. Alpha's 2013 "Frozen Black" is also subverted in style by Upgrade. While the original had a relentless pace to its drums, Upgrade adds more space to the beats to let the newly-tuned bass hook really shine. Two great versions of jump-up contemporisation.

Review: Whilst others are only just getting back to speed, re-edit chiefs Editorial have already been back delivering a packed schedule of choice jams since January. The heat doesn't let up yet either with this new multi-artist mini comp. Ed Wizard and Disco Double Dee start proceedings with the uplifting clavinet boogie of "Peoples Groove" and Matt Hughes' "Sunshine" takes what sounds like a subtle O'Jays sample and gives it a laid back disco sheen. Elsewhere The Owl's "Pimp Talk" provides perfect evening cocktails by the pool vibes and Rahaan closes the show with the chic electro-boogie of "Fine Feelings".

Review: A giant among badmen: following the onslaught of his epic "Big Tune" EP last autumn, Mampi returns with another fresh exercise. "I Exist" hits with a "Gold Rush"-style hook - all electro-edged and naggier than your other half with a nasty hangover but added weight and classic D&B menace. Meanwhile on the remix Rene LaVice takes the classic "Soldiers" and gives it his own unique twist as the evocative hook that all card carrying junglists will know instantly is switched from battle mode to war mode. Batten down your hatches.

Covering the deeper, slinkier and soulful styles in great detail and character, highlights across this accomplished set include the hazy, cloudy textures and dubby bass of "Rough & Fast", the incredible drum work of "Simple As That", the lolloping jazz majesty of "Sugar Drop", the early 2000s liquid style string swoops of "Heavy On Your Head", the classic breaks and gully jungle wriggles and spills of "The Jam".... The list goes on.

First up A Digital Needle takes the razor to Bruni Pagan's 1979 digger's delight "Fantasy", UK heroes Imagination get an ergonomic edit too, but for DJ use only with Rare Cuts' version of their 1981 classic "So Good". Finally "One And Only" by Coutel has those feel good, summertime, soul disco vibes with a loop taken from a particular classic but we don't kiss and tell on this one: keep diggin'!

Review: Daniel Berman has decided to re-launch his Bergerac imprint, following an extended hiatus. Clearly, the Berlin-based producer wanted something big to kick things off again, and his own "Wonky Bassline Disco Banger" is certainly sizeable. Fundamentally a cheery, cut-up disco-house record, it's lifted into potential anthem territory by some choice siren sounds and a series of Syclops-like synth doodles. It's certainly his strongest material for some time, and will be everywhere over coming months. The bonus tracks are pretty darn tasty, too; "Jazzy House Extension" does exactly what it says on the tin - with extra jazz madness - while "Destined" is just plain odd. Strange as it is, it's also rather good.

Following up the Akase side project he's involved in with Robbie Redway and some killer releases on Aus Music, Feel My Bicep and of course his own Graded imprint which this appears on; making it the label's third release already. "Blush" is a slow burning and emotive piece with an epic vintage synth arpeggio and soulful strings backed by the most restrained beat. "Outpost" gets a bit more fierce with a tougher beat and a free running arpeggio that reeks havoc much like Carl Craig's classic remix of "Falling Up". Finally "Holdup" hammers the message home gloriously with its off kilter yet hypnotic beat and sombre yet emotive atmosphere.

Review: Valique is currently neck and neck with Rayko in a furious battle for the title of disco's most prolific re-editor. Here he nudges in front by a nose thanks to another six-track selection of dancefloor-ready reworks. As usual, he adds his magic touch to a range of well loved and lesser-known cuts, kicking off with an undulating, party-hearty extension of David Bowie's "Fame". Stylistically, he keeps things eclectic, variously touching on hazy disco-funk ("Turn That Boogie Loose"), camp disco (the string-drenched, arms-aloft "Going Up"), white boy reggae-pop (a cheery, stretched out rendition of 10CC's "Dreadlock Holiday"), and heavily percussive disco-rock (the subtly house-friendly, filter-rich "You Gave Me Love").

And we're really digging it!

Review: Synthesis is the fourth Digital album and it might be his most ambitious undertaking yet! The album's sixteen tracks see the UK producer working alongside a swathe of high profile contemporaries. The danger with projects such as this, is the lack of cohesion and binding theme but its clear Digital conceived Synthesis as a display of all that's good in the current scene. Exceptionally well produced and engineered, it's nigh on difficult to pick out a highlight here with the likes of Om Unit, Nomine, Villem, Spirit and the mighty Klute excelling in their bass science explorations alongside Digital. An album to really sink your teeth into.

Review: For a seventh time, Perth-based scalpel fiddler Dr Packer opens his surgery doors and invites us inside. As usual, his cheery, floor-friendly reworks strike the right balance between contemporary dancefloor chops (beefed-up bottom end, well-placed filters, and so on), and treating the source material with due reverence. Happily, there's not a duffer in sight, and even his reworks of stone cold classics (see Oliver Cheetham tweak "Friday's Enemy", First Choice revision "Love Doctor" and housed-up Evelyn 'Champagne' King stomper "Shame (VIP)") are different enough to be worthwhile additions to your collection. Highlights are plentiful, but check - in particular - the string-laden disco chug of "Ecstasy" and "Nightlife", a thickset '80s boogie rub full of sparkling synthesizers and heavy bass.

Review: Having contributed a stellar track to Gerd Janson's Musik For Autobahns 2 compilation, it's little surprise to see Leon Vynehall pop up on Running Back. Rojus (Designed To Dance) is an expansive eight trackaffair thati s likely to be as popular as 2014's Music For The Uninvited LP for Martyn's 3024 label. It's also predictably varied; contrast, for example, the drowsy ambient chords and twinkling electronics of opener "Beyond This", and the deep-jack-goes-rave sweatiness of "Beau Sovereign". Vynehall also finds space for the Balearic jazz-house swing of "Paradisea", the wall-of-sound Detroit deep house of "Blush", and the African influenced drum workout "...There Is You". In other words, it's a versatile cracker.

Review: Version excursion: Liondub return to Numa Crew's 2014 album and issue a selection of on-point artists with remix orders. The sharp steppy jump-up of "Bass Hater" gets an added muscular murking from Sub Killaz, a classic jungle roll from Brian Brainstorm and a heads-down growl twist from Samy Nicks. Meanwhile on the dubstep side of Numa Crew's output, "Control" enjoys even more remixes from the likes of Piezo & D Operation Drop (rolling paranoia vibes that border on thoroughbred techno), Lost City (mystic dancehall business) Badjokes (dark style breaks), Liondub (grimy skanks with added voicing from Dirty Smirks) and Meeku (classic jungle Omni Trio feels) Genuinely something for everyone here.

Also included are two collaborations with one of D&B's most consistent and skilled vocalists since Diane Charlemagne. "Dance With Me" jumps and flexes with a jazzy twist while "Get To Know" engages with a much more sentimental, soft-focus allure. Stunning.

Review: Bay Area house hero and Dirtybird co-founder Justin Martin is back following up 2013's Ghettos & Gardens with his new full length LP Hello Clouds, a collection of fine moods and grooves that see him collaborate with some of his favourite artists at the moment. He's quoted as saying "I reached out to specific artists who currently inspire me". Highlights include the title track where he collaborates with London pop chanteuse FEMME on this low slung acid groove. More great talents from London appear such as Lena Cullen, lending her fine vocals to the dark futurism of "Odyssey" and Bristolian rising star and fellow Dirtybird alumni Will Clarke appears too, lending his midas touch to "Back To The Jungle" which is bumpy and as bass driven as you could possibly imagine. The Amen break on top is totally killer too.

Review: Michael The Lion pops up on the ever-reliable Razor N Tape imprint following high quality outings on Soul Clap and Giant Cuts. This time round, he's following the Kon blueprint of blending edit style rearrangement with the heavyweight swing of house production. He begins with the soulful disco-house throb of "Anytime" - all extended percussion breaks, piano-heavy sweetness and life-affirming vocals - before charging off on a cheeky Italo-disco direction with "The Don". "Get More" is a killer, high octane re-cut of Lorraine Johnson's obscure cover of Teddy Pendergass favourite "The More I Get, The More I Want", while closer "909s and Herb" - a co-production with Sammy Bananas - blends elements from Herb Alpert disco classic "Rise" with all manner of brand new synths, drums and samples.

Review: Foundation celebrate three years and 20 releases with this supersized clutch of deep, dark and forward-thinking exclusives. Painting a picture of dubstep's most exciting frontiers, highlights hang, slide and oozes from every cavernous corner: Drew's Theory provides meditative intensity on "Harmony", Deafblind & Darkimh twist up the drums in the sludge-packing "Concrete Groove", Krease soundtracks your next nightmares with his late night graveyard romp "Hindsight" while Dillard digs deep into the proper roots with its shimmering classical dub designs. Weighing at 24 tracks, Foundation have pulled out all the stops here... A seriously detailed piece of bass music futurism.
