Review: The mighty Maji takes the controls at his own Sweet Tooth imprint with four peaktime bumpers. Longstanding singer Jessica Luck features twice on the super-hooky "Pressure" and the creepier, sultrier "Dangerous". Elsewhere we have two straight-up slayers: the soaring samurai bass of "Back Up" and the glitch-tripped data spiked bass of "Guillotine". Massive.

Review: Men of the moment Serum & Voltage press the red button on Serum's nuclear new label: Souped Up. The results are as bright, bashy and bad-ass as you'd hope them to be: "8-Bit" hits with a nasty rasping riff that grizzles on the top-end and sizzles on the bottom while "Gunfingers" shoots and whips with an anthemic bass melody that's so strong you feel you've known all your life. Already massive in the dance with those lucky enough to have it dub, this is the way all new labels should launch.

Review: Unstoppable dark vibe maestro Joe Moses returns to V with five more of his signature understated, scene-uniting constructions. "Dimmer" plays the lead role thanks to its Krust-style drum savagery and ultimate groan bass riff. Highlight b2b highlight b2b highlight follows as the whole EP hits the kill switch.... The rolling Symmetry minimalism of "Kids", the creepiness and subtleties of "Suction" and the unabashed croaks and toxicity of "So Below" are just a few of the standout, hair-raising dynamics at play here. Essential.

Review: Belgium meets UK: Bass Boost's Basstripper makes his debut on Propz & Rowney's ever-shreddy G13 and he's really not messing around. Covering all shades across both sides of the scene he treats us to spiked-out high pitch paranoid riffage on "Safehouse", classic fuzzy bass hookiness on "Fur Dich", weirded-out robot-funk on "Level 1" and ridiculous harmonic switches on "No Laughing". Like we said... There's no room for messing around here. Crucial.

Review: If there's any tune that can truly say I'll be back it's Hizzleguy's screech-funk stepper "Terminator". Released in January, it has returned in both VIP and remix form... And the results are even more hair-raising. The former is pure mimetic poly-alloy T-1000 with its stretched out bass textures and unnerving sense of danger while the latter (courtesy of Nu Elementz) will take your clothes, your boots and your motorcycle with its added grizzly bass tones and looser sense of funk. Terminated.

Review: Fast becoming one of Natty Dub's finest success stories, Jaxx returns with a job lot of sweet sweet rolling gully. There's a sexy simplicity and minimal sense of mischief throughout; "Don't Push It" purrs, "Herbs" twangs, "Take A Walk" groans while "Search Party" jitters and teases. Lean, to-the-point and straight-up funky, this is what properly classically trained drum & bass is all about. Welcome to the asylum.

Review: It's been a few years since Ulterior Motive last delivered original material on Headz but these two ageless designs more than make up for lost time. "Step Change" is the assassin of the two: one click head shot business, this is a run for cover brock out with all the grit and aggression we need in these dark, paranoid times. "Get Close", meanwhile, proceeds to soften our edges. An unnerving, droning stepper that's restrained, but gradually built with measured menace, it's quintessential Ulterior Motive.

Review: Remix time... Sub-Liminal look back over the last few years of releases, pick some of their many great rolling moments and get the artists to remix swap. It's gully grooves from the off as Hybrid adds a much darker dynamic to "Super Bad" and breaks up the reggae sample while Too Greezey injects serious drum muscle and switches out Hybrid's signature junglized basslines on "Kung Fu Master". Leaf follows with a darkened, clipped and steppy twist of Agro & Too Greezey's dubwise "Don't Mek Me Get Dark" and finally Agro smooths out the angular attitude of Leaf's "New Life" with a lower swung, funkier perspective. Great concept, killer versions.

Review: Two Mind make their Young Guns Recordings debut with their most comprehensive and uncompromising collection to date. Serious range versatility is at play here; "Help Me Daddy" is a 96 roller with silky sexy sub-bass while "Cop Killer" is the steppiest, stabbiest snare-basher the St Petersburg duo have created. Between these sick, stark extremes we have the technoid rise and Advisory-style drama of "Insoient", the rubber ball bassline of "My Horror" and the spaced-out Commix-style cosmic stepper "Watching The Night". Murder never sounded so good.

Review: Aroop Roy is a producer, singer and multi-instrumentalist originally from the UK and now residing in Tokyo. Be prepared for one well funky and soul infused journey on "Talkin Bout Life" which is perfect to bring in the summer of 2017. Funky elements, a serious horns section and strong vocals hold up this brilliant track. It's a more straight ahead deep house affair on the rather evocative "We Together" and actually its the kind of track you could imagine Derrick May or Dixon playing out; there are definitely elements of 'hi-tech soul' in it. The Brisa remix of Talkin Bout Life" on the flip is a worthy addition also.

Review: What an absolute treat from the F2 stable this is! The courageous label has taken it upon itself to keep releasing puristic garage in an era where genres are bbeing blurred like Saturday night cocktails, and it really is a great thing to have someone carrying on the UK's seminal tradition along the hardcore continuum. This is the first volume of their F2 comps, and features a whol load of break-ready, gun-toting individuals wishing to inject some class into modern house. Inside, you'll find some absolute bangers for peeps like Champion, Tuff Culture, Deadbeat - who comes through with some twisted two-step - and Pharaoh K, among the many fresh faces on here. SICK!

Review: Here's the 411... Say some gangster is dissing your taste in drum & bass, just give them one of these bangers. Yes, the ever-creative (and hugely prolific) Bou has shown us that drum & bass truly has Moe limits if you're coming from the right place. Other highlights across the epic six-track spread include the necksnap breaks and death frog bass texures on "Blame It", the percussive-focussed riff on "Time & Place" and the hornets' nest bassline that buzzes murderously on "Clash". Arguably one of Bou's best EPs to date.

Review: South coast soldier Vital makes his debut on the turbo-charged young label Bulletproof who are already 17 releases deep after seven months of ops! Living up to his name once again, each cut tickles a different corner of D&B's dark underbelly: "Skank Out" is plain lethal with its MC sample, open-hand slap bassline, loose drums and iced textures, "Bossman" fuses a little jungle magic and soundsystem samples with a nagging bouncing riff while "Murder" goes in for the kill with its lower, grumbling bass hook that refuses to quit. Finally "Walking Dead" adds a little mischief as a carnival bassline sizzles and pings its way around a swaggering, mildly skanked two-step. Vital by name....

Review: His first substantial body of work since his agenda-setting debut album on DJ Hybrid's other label Audio Addict, Kumarachi jumps over to Deep In The Jungle with four bundles of absolute breakbeat bliss. "45" sets the scene with bashy amen cuts, a smoky ragga sample and basslines so rude you'll need new trousers. "Move Up Your Body" continues the lewd factor thanks to its Blackmarket-style bassline that rumbles with ankle-slapping lowness while "Buss It Up" plays the consummate end boss with its rough and rusty amen slaps and punches. "So Listen" closes the show with even nuttier drums, this time on more of a Dread bass timestretched flex. Impeccable and true to the craft.

Review: One of the finest gems in the Hospital crown jewels, S.P.Y lets rip with an ambitious three-part album project Alone In The Dark. We're hurled to the floor with sheet metal dubby synth ripples of "Keep On Searching" before being picked up and dusted down by the already massive euphoric riff blaster "Love Unlimited"... Only to be hurled down even harder by the chiming Randallesque fusion of gully badassery on "Alone In The Dark". Elsewhere "Soldiers" slaps with ragga soul before "Black Ops" closes the show with a homage to techstep and Subtitles-style iciness. Bring on the next two chapters, stat!

Review: Featurecast flexes hard into the crates right here: digging deep over 20 years of party breaks, he's put together the definitive journey of funk with the refreshing devil may care attitude we've come to expect. His selection excavations are here for all the benefit from... The Wiseguys's lesser-spotted jam "One For The Ladies", Lack Of Afro's horn-melting "The Outsider", Max Sedgley's sugar-sweet "Happy", Flevans' Afrofunk shake-up "12 Apostles" and Featurecast and Aldo Vanucci's 2008 hoe-down stomper "Blue Grassed Devil" are just some are just some of the floor-matured classics amid the 25 cuts on offer here. And that's before we even get to awesome mix. Don't dillydally on this one.

Review: To date, Swiss quartet Alma Negra has carved a successful niche as makers of heavily percussive EP singles that look to the rhythms of Africa for inspiration. This outing for Heist Recordings draws on many similar influences, but shuffles further towards original production than their rework style back catalogue. Opener "Afrorleans" is a jaunty trip into shuffling Afro-house territory in the company of a cabal of Cajun musicians, while "Luanda Dub" is a booming, bass heavy late night trip full of swirling vocal samples and densely layered drum hits. If you are after some party-starting Afro-disco/deep house fusion of standout, then "Endless Summer" and a cracking Soulphiction remix of the same track will pushes a rubbery disco bassline to the fore to devastating effect.

Review: A couple of years back, Rafael Top Secret - a selector known for digging deep for inspiration - delivered a tidy re-edit of "Sekele I Like It", a previously little-known Afro-boogie cut by French artist Robert "Bobby" Helms. Copies of the 1980 album it came from, Lay Down, Girl, now go for serious money, prompting this licensed reissue. Helms' brilliant, horn-totin' original is accompanied by another cut from that album, "Feet On The Ground" - a straight-up disco affair - and two new remixes. Baptman and Betino's "Philly Vibe" mix of "Sekele I Like" is a largely instrumental interpretation that includes some killer electric piano solos, with Vas Moody's "Feet On The Ground" remix taking that track in a tightly-wound dub disco direction.

Review: Legendary UKG mix series Pure Garage return with a crucial 60 track collection curated and blended by unstoppable UK bass foursome Foor. Serious new school representation throughout, expect silky soul and darker steppers from some of the most exciting names to have come through in recent years such as Jax Jones, Mikey B, Conducta and Preditah. Interspersed with big hitters (Gorgon City, Rudimental) and UKF icons (MJ Cole, Wideboys), this really does reflect the exciting range and creativity happening in UK bass, garage and house right now. Comes with three continuous mixes, too. Badman bundle.

Review: No drum & bass act has taken the genre to the levels Sigma have achieved. And as the duo continue to bring new ears to the genre, they've stepped aside for some more underground-focused/heavier dancefloor twists from a premiership cast: Calyx & Teebee add a slinky elastic machine funk twist to "Slow Down", Hybrid Minds subvert the soul on "Lost Away" with shimmering results while the legendary G Dub hit major arsonist levels with their turbo-gully take on "Lighters". Elsewhere Annix and The Prototypes completely tear down "Beyond The Wall" and Pegboard Nerds get creative on "Stay". This is what remix collections is all about.

Review: Midlands shelling: Birmingham's Bassboy and Nottingham's Bru-C collide for some instant classic bassline naughtiness. Bassboy's riff keeps it lean and harmonic with just the right amount of prang while Bru C shells and shuts down with definite defiance. Stamped with approval but on-point Crucast crew, this is already massive. Are you going to shell? DEFINITELY.

Review: Marcus nasty: The man, the myth, the legend. A pivotal figure behind the emergence of Grime and UK Funky sounds, there is no one better placed to compile and present a comprehensive collection of the latest evolutions of the House & Garage sound. Curiously enough, the package drops on Dallas imprint Audiophile XXL, as Americas biggest dance music Europhiles the Texans constantly have their ear to the ground and are no strangers to good old fashioned British basslines!
Superabound with dance floor ammunition and A-list names, it is an all killer no filler collection. Wittyboy & Tengu hook up on "Bioshock" with a bassline so harsh it will leave you with a sore throat. LR Groove drifts into more traditional tech-house territory on epic track "The Journey". Brent Kilner rattles he ribcage with a 2017 take on the Sheffield Niche nightclub sound. There are too many standout tracks to mention and in all honesty we have a lot of music to focus on but we would seriously rinse this day and night for the next fortnight if we could.

Review: SMBD aka Simbad is back on GAMM again after a longer break and said to be planning a few EPs with seasonal themes for the label. The first EP as you might expect delivers three tasteful season influenced reworks and remixes which the label claims will 'be your perfect DJ weapons over the Summer months.' If the Afro broken beat groove of Bootsy's "Rather Be With You" (Alphabets Heaven X SMBD remix) won't do it for you, or the super soulful Colonel Abrams tribute "Table 42" (SMBD Tribute) does not grab your attention, guaranteed that the stunning 4/4 rework with Mike Lowrey of Jazzy Jeff's Summer classic "Summertime" has the potential to be a huge tune in the coming months.

If you know the Jazzsticks sound, you'll already know the sterling vibe: dusty, soulful, warm and organic from some of the sharpest talents in the game. Highlights include the big jazz whirlwind of Soul Deep founder Scott Allen's "Soul Desire", a 97-style horn-melting stepper from Decon ("Cool Breeze") and Pulsaar's dreamweaving shakedown "Room For Two". What once was hidden is now found... And will remain in your playlist until the next instalment lands in years to come.

Hizzleguy trumps the game with an 8-bit remix we've always dreamt of. Full of muscles and mushrooms, you'll be collecting gold coins for a long time to come. Other highlights include the nagging clipped harmonic bass riff on Tsuki's "Kit Kat", the coiled spring rhythm of Matzet's "Loop 95" the croaking bass and rattling percussion of Leaf's "Business" and Replicant's methodical horn-sampling roll-out charmer "Tiger Marks". Get your coats, you've (gravitationally) pulled.

Review: Three years on from his first Talamanca System collaboration with Tuff City Kids duo Gerd Janson and Phillip Lauer, Mark Barrott gets the gang back together for an album of typically loved-up excursions. International Feel's eccentric press release describes it as "a sunburned imagination of a day and night spent on Ibiza during a moment in time that probably never was". Given the album's repeated nods to baggy, piano-laden Italian house, the saucer-eyed, sunrise-friendly brilliance of 808 State's "Pacific State", sun-kissed post Italo-disco chuggers, percussion-laden tropical workouts and head-in-the-clouds ambience, it's actually rather an apt description. It's shamelessly Balearic from start to finish, but pulls it off with an authenticity that others could only dream of.

Review: Opolopo barely puts a foot wrong, so it's little surprise to find that this collection of Bits N Bobs is really rather good. Highlights include the sparkling, jazz funk-goes-deep house swing of "Put Your Cap On", the P-funk bass and squiggly D-Train synths of "Spray Tan" and the swirling, life-affirming disco-house bump of "Stroke My Disco", where cut-glass string loops and crunchy Clavinet lines ride a relentless groove. Elsewhere, he further enhances his disco/house fusion credentials via the intricately produced, musically expansive warmth of "The Lakedown Stomp", before rounding things off via the bubbly Dam Funk synth solos, Chez Damier chords and snare-heavy drums of jammed-out highlight "Eventide".

Review: Lumberjacks In Hell just keep on trucking, this time calling upon the legendary skills of Karizma in setting their latest EP alight. "Work It Out" is a fiery slice of gospel choppery, whipping up a fevered line in vocal insistence that hardly needs a rhythm section to make you move, but still has the necessary goods underneath the hood. Marcel Vogel follows a similar tact on "I Got Jesus", spacing the jam out and working a bit more groove, but certainly tapping into the same spiritually enhanced vein. Karizma then returns to make an aptly named "Stomp Dub" of the track, rounding off an absolute beast of a party record.

Review: The Munich based deep house and nu disco institution returns for their fourth safari and it is quite the trip if we do say so ourselves. The landscapes.. the wildlife.. be prepared for an epic journey! Highlights on here include the gutsy analogue punk of Drvg Cvulture's "Night Time Is The Right Time", prog house don Henry Saiz teaming up with sometime John Talabot cohort Pional on the dreamy "Uruboros" and Sweden's always reliable Axel Boman with the dreamily hypnotic "Die Die Die!" which despite its title is summery and lush: a potential anthem of Summer 2017. Hidden treasures, lost classics and exclusive tracks through the deepest house valleys and the highest disco mountains of the label's catalog.

Review: Levela knows what time it is: signing this five track EP to Multi Function finally gives the world a chance to appreciate Indiekai's full D&B breadth. If you've been following his singles you'll know the time, too... A frothing brew of classic jump-up, neuro, jungle and straight up dancefloor drum & bass, these cuts bring all that's great about D&B's many subgenres. From the full turbine engine "Cyclone" shreds to the rattling, grizzling BSE-style "The Lich" via the Dimension-on-PCP heaviness of "Endzone" and plenty more, every cut is as crucial as the last. Indiekai has landed.

Review: Starting out in the early rave scene in Boston, Soul Clap made their name through a series of house edits and became big names through notable releases such as a DJ Kicks mix alongside close NYC allies Wolf + Lamb. "Shine (This Is It)" is the first single from their self-titled second album. It features legendary vocalist Nona Hendryx, an original member of the trio Labelle who's smash single "Lady Marmalade" is a timeless classic. "Shine (This Is It)" features the strength in Hendryx's vocal, which empowers spirits, moving you on the dancefloor. Midnight Magic's Morgan Wiley delivers an outstanding keyboard solo and fellow bandmate Jason Disu teams up with Kali Rodriguez and No Regular Play's Greg Paulus to form the Soul Clap horn section.

Review: Serious business right here from Liquid: Addiction played a huge role in liquid's earliest chapters with releases on Fabio's genre-coining Creative Source imprint alongside Carlito with records the likes of Technimatic and Lenzman have cited as key inspirations. Here he returns to the game with the consistently on-it Villem who has done no wrong on Headz, Spearhead, Dispatch and Utopia. It's a match made in heaven; classy but weighted, timeless yet rooted in the foundations... "Make Me Feel Fine" is a Planet V era style jazzy bassline bumper while "Someone Somebody" is a roomier soul shake-down. Naturally both kill it. Tip.

Review: Funky jump-up is the order of the day as Bou and Dispoze collide for the first time on Smoke Signal Audio. Sparking up with a light bossa-style synth pattern and sparse string twangs, we're then blasted off a devilishly cheeky bassline that's straight from the Kartoons playbook. Simple but deadly and fractured by rattling drum fills, this will work in pretty much every double drop scenario imaginable.

Review: Serial Killaz feel that people need an education on what a dubplate actually is. The title track provides a staple amount of reggae infused new school jungle. "Gang Related" has been thrashed by DJs currently supporting this EP and for a valid reason. The label claims "It's a nasty piece of filth that belongs in the gutter, the type of track you would only dare to drop in a really moody dance." They then up the ante on "Colour", with plenty of funk and wobbles. Then "Hit The Streets" brings the vibe into new territory with plenty of panic ridden vocals, rumbling basslines and skippy swing breaks. Lastly 'Ready' features well known vocal samples, gunshot effects and no-nonsense production make this an amazing end to the EP.

Review: It was way back in 1992 when Detroiters Raphael Merriweathers Jr. and Niko Marks first joined forces under the Unit 2 alias. "Sunshine", their cheery, piano-laden debut single, has long been one of Gerd Janson's favourite house tracks. Here, the Running Back boss has roped in Kink and Tiger & Woods to put a fresh spin on the stone cold classic. While Kink's version - all fizzing drum machine rhythms, steady bold and explosive piano solos - is top-notch, we prefer the Tiger & Woods rework. Typically loopy and tactile in the Italian duo's distinctive style, their mix is a lesson in the dancefloor potential of bass heavy, saucer-eyed, piano-laden loop funk. We have no doubts that it will become one of the house hits of the summer.

Review: Netherlands meets Belgium: Nymfo & Phase crash into each head-on with insanely beautiful results. If the swooning synths on the breakdown of "Bristol Bombay" don't turn you into a massive goosebump then you need your senses rewired. Likewise, "Duvel" guarantees wasp-chewing bass faces of the ugliest order with its pranged out mentasms, "Beautiful Suicide" hammers with such weight and pressure it could crush tungsten and "Bulldog" wraps up the session with a heads-down fuzzy groove that's restrained-yet-raw in classic Dispatch style.

Review: Clayton, Loxy & Ink are the original Hardware family. Together they spawned a style and sound that would eventually come to epitomise Renegade Hardware. Instantly recognisable, it's roots are firmly placed in the world of drums and unbridled darkness. Along with fellow cohorts Gremlinz, Skitty & Phobia they have managed to keep this unique sound well and truly alive. Their unwavering vision has been solidly represented by this incredible collection of tracks. Be it the Unrelenting march of Philth & Agman Gora's "The Void", Universal Project's sleazy groove on "Dog Pound" or new upstart Voltage's rolling 'Born Again', this tunes deliver in fine style. And as you would expect, there's also appearances from Loxy & Ink themselves on "Serial Killa" and "We".

Review: There's something pleasingly old-fashioned about Happy Again, an album of alternative versions and remixes of tracks from Eli Escobar's acclaimed Happiness full-length. Thanks to the presence of DJ-friendly dubs, rhythm tracks and acappellas, it feels like Classic looked to the pioneering remix albums of the 1980s for inspiration. What really makes it stand out, though, is the quality of the material. Kon's rework of "Happiness (Part 2)" offers the perfect balance between subtle house and voodoo disco, while Soulphiction and Soul Clap steal the show with contrasting deep house takes on "Can't Stop Dancing" and "4 Luv". We're particularly impressed, too, with the freestyle-tinged revision of "Chaka Khan" by The Carry Nation, while Escobar's own dub of "Happiness (Part 2)" is a loose, warm and groovy treat.

Review: The man, the myth, the groove magician: Beta 2 returns to Horizons with three more eternal heaters. "Manufacturism" rolls like its 1999 all over again with its restrained but ominous themes but latent sense of funk, "Voices In The Sky" stays in a similar era with its dark rainbow of basses that interplay and swirl around a precision break and classic humanised chords and "Sans Swing" is the grimiest piece in the puzzle with its Dispatch-style distorted, shapeshifting lava bassline and rolling heads-down drums. Supreme quality as always from both Beta 2 and Horizons.

Review: Nottingham based Ron Basejam is the anagrammed alter-ego of Crazy P co-founder James Baron who creates music with feelings on labels such as Futureboogie and Wolf Music and now for Freerange sister label Delusions Of Grandeur. On the fittingly titled The Sound Of A Feeling EP he serves up the charmingly titled "Shit Wizard" a soulful, nu-disco boogie-down jam. "We Walk To War" in its original form is the kind of lo-slung/slo-mo disco that really floats our boat, but the remix up next by Tee Mango really injects it with some Stevie Wonder style soul-funk that'll help get your shine on. The title track is the deepest and most emotive offering here, with its sublime and hypnotic qualities being pushed along by a tight groove.
