Black Rebel - "Smile" - (9:02) 122 BPM
from $2.18
Review: Editorial is one of the leading re-edit labels currently doing the business, so it's only fitting that they should enlist some leading re-editors for Love Dubs. Australia's Dr Packer leads the charge with a sublime spaced out version of Teena Maries' slap bass classic Behind The Groove. Further highlights include the slo-mo, hands in the air vibes of "Bionic Love" by Robjamweb and the orchestrated '70s glamour beat of "Smile" by Black Rebel.

Meen Time - (4:25) 175 BPM
from $1.49
Review: One of the most respected men in the game, Hazard returns with four blinding slabs of seismic sonics. Don't be fooled by the title, "Bricks Don't Roll" really does roll thanks to some unique drum programming, a harrowed hook and a sub that echoes its every peak and trough. Dig deeper for the head-turning, triplet-twisted hype riser "Mk Q", the subversive alien trippiness of "Death Sport" and the spacious reverberations and epic hollow-bass drop of "Meen Time". Hazard doesn't release EPs that often, but when he does the scene bricks it. This is beyond solid.

Review: The Gun Audio label have been killing it with each and every release since it opened for business at the beginning of 2013, but for those who haven't yet had a chance to experience their cutting edge take on D&B, this second label compilation is essential business. Frojm the sci-fi synths of Mackie Gee's "Transmission" through the punishing rhythms of Jaydan's "Acid High" and Benns' "Disconnected" to the more classic sounds of Bladerunner's "Hot Steppa", there really is something for every discerning D&B fan here to chew on until the next one arrives!

Review: The last missive from DJ Vas HQ was way back in November of last year. Thankfully the summer's sunny allure seems to have got his creative juices flowing and now we have four new offerings for our aural pleasure. Roy Ayers' "Our Love Will Bring Us Back Together" is teased out into sinewy, high-end boogie and BB&Q's "Imagination" home is improved, getting rebuilt into lasered robot funk. Crown Heights Affair also get two hip swaying brassy tracks featured here, rounding off the euphoric party vibes in style.

Whiteboy Funk - "New York New York" - (3:06) 120 BPM
from $1.49
Review: If you like your funk and breakbeats a little dirtier, than Funk Fusion have the grease to grind those gears. Terry Wagun drops a wobbly, saw-wave bassline over a choral of Lily Allen vocals in the opening track, while Mr Bristow slugs out some dirty low-end similar to Mr Oizo's "Analog Worms Attack" in his addition. For a crunchy, slowed down, stoners version of Pharrell's "Happy" there's 2RUD's "Happy Ska" - and don't forget Dave Gerrad's mashup of Queen and Kurtis Blow's "The Breaks" in his Funkadelic "Kurtis Breaks". Some bass-heavy 808 beats like Felix Da Housecat's "Kickdrum" rumble under a pair of titan hip hop vocals in "Turn Down For Hip Hop" thanks to Lil Jon and Fatman Scoop samples which spit over the top of Major Lazer synths. Get fused.

Review: Having struggled to find his niche during the early part of his career, things started looking up for Randomer when he popped up on Numbers back in 2011 with the bombastic blends of acid house and techno that made up his impressive Real Talk EP. Since then, he's impressively flitted between techno and bass music, and here delivers an all-out techno assault for Clone's occasional Basement Series. There's a real no-nonsese feel to the relentless kick-drums and cut-up vocal samples of "Stupid Things I Do", which comes in "New School" and "Old School" mix formats (the latter including some looser techno breakbeats, and thus being our pick). The EP also includes two formidable percussion workouts, which deliver driving drums and booming basslines.

You Can't Play Around - (6:27) 111 BPM
from $1.49
Review: Surgery Edits Vol 3 sees Aussie editor Dr Packer apply the knife to a selection of stone cold disco and funk classics. Extending and exciting at every opportunity, there's an emphatic headnod to the '80s throughout as we ignite with crisp revisions of both Jocelyn Brown's "Somebody Else's Guy" and Change's "Change Of Heart". As the doctor digs deeper we're treated to savage synth boogie badness by way of the slap-bass and horn heavy "Luv Ya Lady", a dubby dedication to George Benson's "Give Me The Night" and some cool filtered flurries on Lace's "Can't Play Around". Weighing in at near-album size, edit collections don't come much more extensive than this.

Review: Hotbox Boogie is the deep disco offshoot of Denver edit label Hotbox. Release schedules are there for a reason, and this time it's the turn of shady funk fiend Brutal Disco to step up to the plate. He doesn't do badly either with the slap-bass showdown of "This Kinda Lovin" and the smooth 90s lounge vibes of "Make Me Feel Good" hitting the spot, but it's the epic joy of filtered disco house beast "Keep On" that really steals the show.

Review: Spanish nu-disco DJ Nelue has developed quite a reputation for himself both with his residency at his Moroder Sound Club and with his label, Groove Democracy. Now he's upped his game again by delivering a seriously impressive 24-track label compilation featuring his own work and a selection of offerings from a host of key names on the re-edit scene. Highlights include Nelue's gentle retweak of Terri Well's 1984 anthem "All My Love", the chuggy arpeggiation of "Canebiere Man" and The Metaphysical's Bloop Crack glorious extension of Wham!'s kitchen synth drama, "Everything She Wants".

Review: A lot of re-edit producers seem to be reappearing following a fairly long hibernation period. It can't be a coincidence that the sun's out too - as re-edits are good times music. The Reflex are finally back and there'll be some mighty good times soundtracked by "Bongle Joogie", an almost seven-minute muscled up version of Kool And the Gang's monster party jam. Meanwhile, Earth, Wind & Fire's timeless hit "September" gets tweaked into a floaty cloud of party joy, with some pretty impressive acapella breaks too.

Review: "Mind Biscuit": Something tasty for your brain to chew on while your feet mulch up the dancefloor. Auckland crew Monkey Boots lay down two jack-slapping originals that dig deep into the true deep house psyche. "Impossible Need" comes with smoky vocal and smouldering bass vibes on the groove while "Yearning For You" slaps with a lighter sensation, all wafty minor key organs and soul-stirring vocals. Remix-wise Reed & Radley subvert "Yearning For You" with a little more space and reverbed magic while The Phantom Flan Flinger gets all reflective and shimmering on the Balearic bomb "Lullaby For Spiderman". Beautiful.

Review: Moscow producer Alexander Lay-Far has enjoyed a productive EP, delivering effortlessly soulful deep house releases for City Fly, Lazy Days and Atjazz's eponymous imprint. Here he pops up on Local Talk with four more reasons to be cheerful. "Side To Side (I Just)" sets the tone, impressively fusing attractive electronics and shuffling, US house-influenced beats with warm chords and soulful vocal samples. Fouk remixes the same track, bringing out the bluesy elements in the vocal while offering a smoother, eyes-wide-shut, piano-laden interpretation. Elsewhere, Lay-Far shows his disco side on the baggy, horn heavy loop-jam "Get On It", while "Feel Like Making Dub" is an expansive, sun-kissed trip into boss-house territory complete with sumptuous keys and a rich bassline.

Review: Kompakt's Total compilation series - an annual round up of gems from the imprint's tightly packed release schedule - must be one of the longest-running in dance music. Amazingly, this latest installment is the 14th volume in the series. For those who enjoy Kompakt's generally positive approach to electronic music - think tactile techno, ambient pop and skewed, synth-laden house from the likes of Michael Mayer, Thomas Fehlmann, Partial Arts and Gui Boratto - there's much to admire, including a slew of previously unreleased cuts. These include Superpitcher's "Delta", a sublime chunk of hypnotic e-tronica that's almost too melodic for its own good. Arguably even better is Weval's live recording of "Something", which is near perfect in its wide-eyed pop simplicity.

Review: Expect much skanking and rejoicing from this herbal-tinted remix release, refixed and sharpened up by none other than the Serial Killaz. First up, "Uprising" goes on a high-energy jungle flex, rolling hard and fast with plenty of upbeats and plenty of vibe. Marcus Visionary steps up next for his take, rewinding back to the old school and adding the sounds of the street to toughen up the proceedings. Serial Killaz then get back to another co-effort for a dance-friendly Radio Edit and finally an instrumental mix takes centre stage. No beat was left unturned. Fire!

Review: Legendary label Ruffneck Ting do their thing once again with the return of K Jah to bring the real sounds of jungle back to the dancefloor. This five-track monster rips it up from start to finish, with more fire than an octogenarian's birthday cake. First up to bring the vibes is "Supaclash" with its giant bass and even bigger selection of well-poised sampling. Following up with hard-rolling "Rough Times" and old-school tinted dancefloor-shaking "It Gets Better" there's a plethora of influences here ripe for the picking. "That's A Fact" follows up with a skank-along beats, filth bass and hip-hop vocals, and finally the greatest sweets in the world get a look in with "Cola Cubes" featuring Vytol, a dark and dingy look into the early hours; cold, heavy and very, very ravey.

Review: Auckland's deep delving duo Monkey Boots are back with a new version of "Whitworth Strut", this time reworked by disco royalty himself, Greg Wilson. Under Wilson's guidance the track becomes like a whooshy, subaquatic disco swim with tides of touchy feely loops washing all over the listener in blessed-out joy. Elsewhere we get a new track "Hold Back The Night", which is a lean and mean slice of linear electro funk (also successfully dubbed out by Andy Hart) that clocks in at a whopping eight minutes!

Review: Roots For Bloom SHAG Edits series returns with volume 3. M.James brings us a track that will catch any music lovers ear. With the crisp percussion, delicate guitar riffs, a bassline that keeps evolving throughout and that vocal, this one ticks all the boxes. On the flip label boss Jamie Trench maintains the general feel for the record. This one focusing on a simpler yet just as effective bassline and obviously being heavily reliant on the sample being in the shag edits series. If you're looking for that record that stands out from the rest, this is the weapon you need.

JD Twitch - "Maya" - (4:58) 123 BPM

Review: JD Twitch's Autonomous Africa series is something of a rarity. Each annual EP, which features modern electronic music influenced by African rhythms, sounds and styles, is used to raise money for a different African charity. Proceeds from this third in the series are destined for Tanzania's Mtandika Mission, a charity run by Midland's parents. It seems fitting, then, that he kicks things off with "Safi", a heavyweight slice of future voodoo that expertly blends analogue electronics and bombastic African rhythms. General Ludd go deep, psychedelic and off-kilter with their brilliant "Burning Mack", while Auntie Flo delivers a stripped-back vocal cut with echoes of his recent material on Permanent Vacation. Finally, Twitch steps up to deliver "Maya", which sounds like LFO's "LFO" re-made by African musicians.

Review: Time to pay homage to some of the greatest junglists in the biz for a lovely little detour into each of their mindsets. "Fall In Love" itself is a beauty of a track - with Eva Lazarus referencing Althia and Donna and the horns blowing pure heat there's a true dancehall vibe sizzling. First up to give it the remix treatment are Dope Ammo and Marvellous Cain who add their fun and fire twist with a hard edged drop switched into that winding bassline to send crowds wild. Mr Benn picks up the tune for its final remix and adds his own reggae vibes, swapping those dark dancefloor sounds for sunshine and tropical funky bass. Versatility and vibes - what more do you want?

Time Traveller (feat Steo) - (5:21) 140 BPM
from $1.49
Review: Unlike his more prolific counterparts on the scene, Beta 2 has been working away quietly and sporadically over the past few years, spreading his talents sparsely but effectively, like a stealth bomber. With a timeless quality only a few producers manage to evoke, his tracks always bring the glory years of D&B to mind, transitioning smoothly from 1994 to 2004 to 2014 in the blink of an eye. "2nd Page" is a masterpiece in smooth, swaying drum and bass, picking up swooning strings as it rolls past. Second track "NOD" is made of harder stuff, with rough breaks and empty, minimal atmosphere. Moving into techier territory, "Time Traveller" takes beats most familiar to fans of the likes of Burial and Four Tet, speeds them up and sends them on their way with a gorgeously soothing rumble of velvety bass and soaring atmospherics. A true gem.

Review: Liondub International come through with their usual bag of ragga jump-up goodness, and this time it's a mash up of the legendary Ranking Joe! "Ram Dance Selecta" is a serious body groover packed full of crunchy breaks and that inimitable Jamaican vocal twist - a true lesson in rub-a-dubbin'! "Jungle General" is another slice of mutant ragga funk, but a touch deeper and a little more sensual. All together, a true flash job. Run it!!

Review: When you think of Basic Fingers, it's hard not to associate the label with the seasoned disco tweaking activities of Koko Garito, a man whose been integral in establishing the label within the edit community from the very off (remember that slick Skipworth & Turner edit on FINGERS001?) As you might have gathered from the title, this is the fourth solo Koko release for Basic Fingers and commences in jazz funk heaven with an edit of Deodato called "Family Affair" which shows off his skills for rearrangement and deft EQ for nine glorious minutes. Meanwhile, "Welcome Aboard" sees Koko flipping a Barry White and Webster Lewis arrangement in equally silky fashion, making it a perfect nugget for the early afternoon boat parties this summer.

Review: For this, their inaugural release, Beatnik City round up a pan-international squad (including British, Italians and Brazilians) in what proves to be a great homage to 'the world's sexiest city'. There's seven tracks here - all of which look back to the hazy golden 1960s and conjures up vintage Copacabana vibes through a combination of salsa and Latin loungey sounds and melodies all welded to tougher modern breaks for a contemporary slant.

Review: Man of many monikers Gerd returns to the NY Stomp alias he last used in 2012. "I Feel It Comin' On", featuring Matthew Kirkwood, is a sparkling chunk of revivalist US house, with pianos and cut-up soul vocals riding a classic bassline and stomping, basement-friendly beats. There's a couple of more UKG-friendly revisions in the shape of the Bass'N'Dirt Remix and Dub, while Ovis gives the original a thunderous makeover - all raw drum machine beats, powerful sub and cut-up, hands-in-the-air vocals. There's also a solid bonus cut, "Beatattak", in which Gerd laces chopped-up freestyle vocals and dreamy chords over a skipping, US garage style rhythm.

Review: Following the sad news of Rashad's passing, this latest single from the ever-productive Addison Groove takes on a more poignant nature as the late footwork legend guests on the second track. That the track is called "U Been Gone" only adds to the emotional weight of it, not to mention the wistful keys and yearning vocal lick. Elsewhere Addison Groove is on typically fiery form, from the rave baiting whiplash of "Push It" to the weighty bassbin busting badness of "Dat Ass". The samples are beyond cheeky in their recognisability, and it matters not a jot when the music kicks as hard as this.

Review: With the previous collaborative benchmark set high from the massive "September Sun" and their remix of Plastician's "Hard Graft", N-Type and Surge compound their premium partnership once again with this massive five-tracker. Every track is total galvanised darkness; from the paranoid pads and disgustingly thick bass/kick drive on "Katnip" to the almost Detroitian arpeggios, mangled grimy rhyme and spiked out acid line of "Clobber" via the dramatic rips and sneers of the EP title track, it's clear Surge and N-Type complement each other incredibly well.

Review: Staffordshire's Rich Lane made some serious waves recently with slo-mo Balearic bomb "Shelves" getting serious plays from the likes of Emperor Machine and Tronik Youth. For his latest release (on a split EP) he's chosen to present a cool, linear re-edit of A Split Second's 1986 classic "Flesh" - originally a faster punk record, it famously gave birth to Belgian New Beat when DJs played it at 33rpm and slowed to -8. Also included is returning '90s hero Peza (Lee Perry) with a reworked version of No More Nightmares - now stripped back to a slow acidic chugger.

Review: Amazingly, it's been three years since Birmingham-raised duo Cause & Affect made their debut on Beatdown Music. Since then, their profile has rocketed thanks to regular appearances on Rinse FM. Here they pop up on the station's label offshoot with a four tracker that smoothly joins the dots between UK funky, deep house and UKG. Opener "Mistakes", blessed as it is with jaunty bleep melodies, warm sub, heady pads and a choice vocal sample, is particularly impressive. "Dimensions" is faster and breezier, with deliciously wide-eyed breakdowns, while "Bird Flu" laces electronic blips and cut-up vocals over a rolling 4/4 garage rhythm. Finally, "Foorest" is impressively weird and glitchy, sounding like UK bass house beamed down from another planet.

Once again the source material is a closely guarded secret, but whether it's the cowbell-heavy, Rhodes-led funk of "Dance (Move Ya Body)", the smooth licks and sweltering '80s production of "Jump To The Edit", the party starting vocal on "Feel It" or the deep down disco sleaze of standout track "Limited Search", there's something here for everyone to get their own disco dancefloors bumping.

First up is "Cherry Hill" which is low slung, spacey and dark house: all sultry buzzes, hums and the ghostly vocals of Max Marshall. Review: Many happy returns to Germany's Dirt Crew Recordings imprint, which this year celebrates a decade of deep and tech-house releases. For this celebratory collection, they've decided to take a slightly different approach, eschewing label classics and forgotten gems in favour of new cuts from familiar and lesser-known artists. There's naturally much to admire, from the heavy, Soundstream-do-deep house loopiness of Yosa's "Love Me" and the surging deep house funk of Timothy Blake's "The Town is Quiet", to the woozy, Ame-ish rush of Matt Masters' "6&3 Twos". Tigerskin does his bit for the label's old guard with "Ad Lib Robot", a bouncy, soul-flecked acid jam that's one of the compilation's genuine highlights.

Love Taking Over EP by Dusky on 17 Steps Cue Track
Expectations - (6:14) 122 BPM
from $1.49
Review: Having built an impressive reputation via releases on Aus Music and Naked Naked, British house duo Dusky have decided to launch their own label, 17 Steps. This first release - from the duo themselves, naturally - suggests the label could be a force to be reckoned with in coming years. There's a thrillingly saucer-eyed feel about "Love Taking Over", which peppers a robust, sub-heavy groove with drifting alien synths, wonky pads and choice vocal samples. "Inta" is more obviously accessible, with classic house pianos and spoken vocal stabs providing the track with bags of energy. "Expectations" sees the duo return to familiar influences, with acid bass and attractive hooks riding a bustling, US garage-influenced groove.

If I Was To Gravy You - (5:28) 123 BPM

Review: Thanks to a string of well-received releases on Wolf Music, Dutch deep house producer Frits Wentink is a man in demand. Here he builds on his growing reputation with a typically bass-heavy, floor-friendly four-tracker for Heist Recordings. Wentink's production style - eccentric but danceable, and prone to blending fuzzy, analogue-rich bottom end with all manner of curious musical flourishes - is unique, and all four tracks come blessed with his usual intriguing touches. "Ligament" is the most obvious deep house killer, though we're particularly fond of the rubbery bass, watery vocals and jazz keys of "Sauce" - though the bouncy "Shrewd" has the most cross-over potential. Either way, it's another excellent EP from the Dutchman.

Review: With previous damage caused on Imperial Audio, UK bass conjurer Arkwright steps over to Gaze Ill and Don D's ever-impressive Cue Line. And he does so with no less than five tracks. There's a distinctly tribal twang to each of the cuts: "Kwata"'s linear percussive assault sets the tone perfectly well as we're thrusted into the sludgy sub grumbles of "Settle", the widescreen pads and densely layered drum sounds of "Living" and the off-kilter lollops and flickers of "Level Head". Looking for more funk and less tribal? Head for the switch-flipping techy 4/4 and b-boy scratch madness of "Nosalis".

Dollars - (4:38) 62 BPM Biggest-selling track on this release
from $1.49
Review: With releases on Mad Decent and Southern Fried to their name, Birmingham duo Hybrid Theory are fast becoming stars in the all-action world of bass music. Here, they continue their hard-to-define explorations, which variously doff a Snapback to grime, UKG, UK funky and deep house. Opener "Drop To The Max" gets things rolling via pulsating sub-bass, cut down rave stabs, locked in house beats and an almighty breakdown that should get hands rocketing skywards on the dancefloor. "Raw Sex" is an altogether more robust proposition, with dirty great bass and grime electronics wrapped around a hissing UKG rhythm. Finally, Hybrid Theory break up the beats a little on "Dollars", which is impressively sparse in its production, but no less effective. Once the bass and watery melodies take hold, you'll be hooked.

Review: Serbia's Tonbe is back with a new sizzler, the Kindle EP, following success on the Midnight Riot label. He's definitely on a roll as the tunes here are all on a proper celebratory tip. From the Zapp-esque slow jam opener "Are You " to the G-funk of instrumental closer "Easy Ride Again" via the electro-funk-pop of "Western Wind" (and the killer electro stomp remix by Fingerman), it's one fun ride!

Review: The vocal sample from Tuff Culture's "Africa" will be familiar to any Chemical Brothers fans out there who know the track "It Began In Afrika" (originally sampled from Jim Ingram's "Drumbeat"). The lead cut here is a great tune which combines baile funk with splashes of dubstep and skipping house. "Bye Your Side" is the standout garage track on this EP, while "You & Me" and "Touched VIP" are deep, bass driven and flecked with flashes of cooling chords.

Review: Bringing new levels of heat to the nu-funk fire, Rise Above returns with three more surefire party ruckuses. WBBL kicks off with a pitch-perfect update of Bomb The Bass's "Bug Powder Dust" on "Buggin", Sammy Senior looks further back and taps into the deepest pool of classic jams with a savage bass-scorched "Sweet Funk", and finally X Ray Ted closes the show with a cool homage to Al Jarreau, complete with a cameo from Mr Biggie Smalls himself. New blood? Bloody great, more like.

Review: Defkline is one of the alternate monikers used by breakstep pioneer Deekline (of I Don't Smoke fame). This Londoner never rests - running no less than six labels including Hot Cakes. Here on "Push Dat" he's having a bit of throwaway fun taking the riff from '90s superhit Push The Feeling On by Nightcrawlers and mixing it in both 2-step and housey styles. Sure to conjure up smiles in clubs everywhere.

This Is The Place - (5:58) 124 BPM

Review: Originally debuting on Well Rounded Records' Housing Project sub-label in 2012, Leon Vynehall has since become one of the UK's most in-demand of the new wave of young house producers. He's released subsequent records for George Fitzgerald's ManMakeMusic and Will Saul's Aus, and most recently an album on Martyn's 3024. Vynehall is now in cruise control and he lays back on Clone's Royal Oak with what will prove to be a favourite with DJs this summer. "Butterflies" is this record's piano-driven house jam, but really it's all about "This Is The Place", a loved up peach of a production with the strength to appease the underground and crossover into the mainstream.

Review: Re-edit don Rayko still seems to be able to pull gems out of the bag at an alarming rate. Here he's done it again with a selection 'cheeky' edits, some more obvious than others. "Can't Get Enough" is made for those in love with the glistening dry ice electronics of mid-80s soul, Linn drum breaks and all. "Rock My World" is a re-work of Wacko Jacko's opinion-dividing 2001 comeback single, "Step Out Of My Dreams" is killer West End-style electro-disco and finally "Touch Me" sees Cathy Dennis' late '80s pop tune reduced to a ferociously funky guitar and cowbell workout.
