Review: Given the glowing reception to last year's Jungle To The World compilation, it makes for no surprise that Liondub have called on the curatorial skills of all-round junglist scholar, Marcus Visionary, to compile a second volume. The blend of legends and innovators alike is present once more, as Visionary pulls together 14 tracks from an all-star cast of producers renowned for pushing forth the reggae-infused jungle sound. Naturally the highlights come thick and fast, but Bladerunner's fierce "Guidance Dub" and Marcus Visionary's own collab with iconic reggae vocalist Jonny Osbourne, "Lend Me", stand out. Some killer sampling of the classic "Armagideon Time" abounds in this latter cut. E for essential!

Review: More VA manoeuvres from the perennial Natty camp. The label has recruited new names and they're all packing ammo. Label bosses Cabin Fever reboot with old sparring partner Saxxon for an electrified brock-out "Clubhopper" before four acts make their label debut: DJ Hybrid applies a skillishly simplistic and highly timeless bassline stepper, Version cooks up with rattling wasps-in-tin bassline and warped retro sci-fi tones, Sureshock looks to the stars through a pair of Klute's glasses and a soaring big system vocal, while Kenji twists up with a serious space jam.

Review: Batten down the hatches! A "Torpedo" is set to wreak havoc upside your area and, with all its trippy vocal twists, it's clear Vacuum doesn't give two hoots how much damage he causes. Deeper into the torrential storm we go... "Stop Them" will tear a hole in your roof with its Prototypes riff flourishes, "Fadeout" could create a sink hole with its Hazard-style bass hook before filling it with epicness on the chorus while "Windshield" will protect us from future brutal acts of mother nature with its bouncy halftime hook. The EP comes complete with an exclusive jump-up slammer "Combat". Pure black belt business.

Review: While his live appearances are placing him on the radar of ever more enlightened house heads the world over, Kink is showing no signs of slacking on the production front either. The clue is in his name, and as ever there are plenty of subtly shimmying tricks in the Bulgarian mastermind's grooves to keep the stiffest of dancers shaking on the off-beat. "Valentine's Groove" is a masterclass in jazz-inflected deep house, all fuzzy chord stabs and badass bass for the funkiest shape flingers. "Strings" meanwhile reaches for a more emotive feeling, lashing on the Detroit romanticism to a wonderfully bombastic end.

Review: Exactly two years since their debut album Desire Paths, Shogun duo Technicolour & Komatic dish up their sophomore and it's even slicker and consistent than the first. With a finely honed signature that's unmistakeably their own, no other act do liquid in this way. From the cloud-bouncing floatation session of "Parallel" and raw string power of "Clockwise" right the way through to the final salvos of the soulful mourns of "Hold On A While" and the halfstep dreaminess of "It Must Be", every track here has a purpose without so much of a hit being chased or a vocal being added for feature's sake. Authentic and unashamedly deep.

Review: Disco duo Yam Who? know a thing about re-edits, just take a listen to the endless back catalogue of their revered Midnight Riot label. Here they've recruited man about town Amp Fiddler, to rustle up an album's worth of scalpel jobs. There are 11 smooth gems here to groove to, some of our favourites including the meaty, meandering bassline and soulful vocals of "Superficial", the funky feminist clap-along "Steppin' (feat Dames Brown)" and the skippy garagey house anthem, "Funk Is Here To Stay". Sweet sounds.

Review: San Diego badmen Sub Killaz take the wheel for Liondub's not-stop EP joyride. It's gnarly business from the off as "Raised By The Block" and "Faces Of War" both hit hard with devilish riff dynamics. "Only You" strips the vibe back to a '99 sharp step and a well-tamed cushiony sub while "9 Pound Hammer" pokes and stabs gleefully with Annix-style keenness and "Salt Water" winds us down with shimmering piano strokes and hazy R&B style vocal snippets. Something for everyone.

Review: Heist invites New York's Hoogs to the Calypso crew with one of the label's most generous EPs to date. Those aware of Hoogs' 15 year repertoire will already know what to expect; cross-board ruffage with a cheeky US twist on the classic UK jump-up foundation. Heady, sharper and big in the lean riff game, highlights include the downward spiral of bass paranoia on "Gorilla Glue", the rattling jungle freshness of "What You Say" and the higher-toned bassline trippery of "Midnight Killing". Audio insanity.

Review: Sticky fingers Brazilians Jam Thieves have been tearing up the dance in the last few years with their subgenre-smelting dancefloor-focussed D&B. Misbehaving on the likes of Radius, Serial Killaz, and Hangar, they've found their spiritual home on Hype's Playaz where all styles are welcome as long they make you bounce... Which is exactly what these 10 tracks do. From the wild west whistles and far-out bass bumps on "The Hangman" and the Qanun twanging "Favela Funk" (with the similarly talented hot blooded Portuguese-speaking duo Bass Brothers), Jam Thieves have delivered a straight-up album of dancefloor bruisers and funkers with nothing contrived or written for album's sake. Refreshing.

Review: Four of Low Down Deep's heaviest club cuts over the last two years enjoy a new coat of VIP arms, bringing them all back up to date. Already in demand due to dubplate pressure, each cut adds new bassline and riff twists that will cause knowing gun fingers across the dance. Logan D & Dominator's "Giant Killer Bees" goes switch-heavy, Turno's "Gladiator" enjoys an emotional explosion on the breakdown, Majistrate's already tongue-in-cheek "Amsterdam" gets even sillier while Heist's infamous "Moose Knuckle" keeps its sci-fi haze intact while folding the bass riff inside itself. Serious VIP business.

"Bonesmen" is all about the dark tech groove, the way the drums switch with subtlety, the persistent sub and classic Headz FX rotate through the spectrum. "In Circles" flips the vibe with a lighter tone in the pads, a sweet deep dream atmosphere on the blink-and-miss breakdown and chirpier, looser, funkier drums. Two cuts, both true to the craft.

Review: Moscow based disco label Vehicle is at it again and delivers the goods as always. They've taken the razor to some oldies but indeed goodies on the Summer Boogie EP. There's quite an all star cast on offer here if we have ever seen one. American/Puerto Rican latin jazz legend Ray Barretto appears with his classic "Fulltime Paradise", the soulman himself Roy Ayers appears also with "Fever". Honorable mentions also to Greek sex symbol Denis Roussos with his majestically sleazy "M-Time" and The Beatles aka The Bugs with "Srgnt Ppr's".. err exucse me? Oh don't worry, groove on!

Review: Lately Leeds' Deelicious has seen his loose and groovy tunes grace the likes of Sound Exhibitions and Disco Fruit. Here he rolls out five sizzling new bangers. The urgent slice of socially conscious funk, "Lonely Town Lonely Street", kicks things off, "Trust Me" incorporates housier filtered loops into the mix and the title track is celebratory slice of disco-pop with some ace bloc-rocking breaks and punk-funk bass work. Elsewhere we enter orbit with the melodramatic sci-fi boogie of "Mechanical Body" and "Change Your Mind" is an amazing example of early underground dance music reconfigured by a 21st century perspective.

Review: Martin Scorsese and Mick Jagger's recent Vinyl TV show depicted the birth of New York black party culture with the mighty Kool Herc at the helm. Here Dr Packer riffs off that same imagery too, even if his edits are more in the disco vein than that of Herc's hard funk breaks. There are a whopping six edits to wrap your ears around here, highlights include sensuous 70s boogie, complete with electro bassline, of "Disco Lovin", the protracted hiNRG New Order loops of "Monday Blues" and the shimmering, dry ice soul of "Chocolate Boogie". Fun music for fun times!

Review: Todd Terje & The Olsens come correct with their first recorded material after an extended bout of them treating festival audiences to some of the Norwegian's best-loved material, not to mention some killer cover versions. Indeed it's the latter, oft-derided method of recording that forms the basis of this delightfully-presented double pack (we love a good Big Trouble In Little China reference) as Terje and the group rip through renditions of some disco standards from Martin Circus, YMO, Vangelis and more. Given Terje's lengthy range of official and under-the-counter edits, news of this new project makes perfect sense to us. In addition to these cover versions, Olsen have also commissioned some remixes with arch Terje colluder Prins Thomas involved along with Comeme artist Daniel Maloso.

Review: Razor N Tape has been predictably coy about the identity of new signing Tom of Brooklyn. Whoever the New York man of mystery is, he's certainly capable of crafting hot-to-trot edits that pay due reverence to their obscure source material. There's much to admire on this fine debut EP, from the chopped-up, late night hustle of the delightfully percussive "Disco Maniac", to the loopy disco-funk swing of "Dreamin' Again". Elsewhere, the Big Apple scalpel fiend makes merry on the low-slung, delay-laden disco drum workout "Heavy Dense", and pays tribute to sweltering temperatures and long, lazy days on the shuffling standout "Summerjam". Superb stuff, all told.

Review: Kenny Ken's Mix & Blen returns with a rare two-piece from the legendary bossman himself. Teaming up with emerging Dread-affiliate Margaman, the end result is two immaculate jungle designs fit for all rolling styles of D&B DJ. "Nuff Gal" runs amok with a big reggae vocal style and ruffage bass while "Tek It Easy" positions our focus around the detailed drum work where no 16 is repeated and things get rather twisted mid-way. Spotless.

Review: After working relentlessly for three years to establish the label, the crew behind Luv Shack has been enjoying some much-needed time off. Suitably refreshed, they return with a first EP of 2016: a fine three-tracker from Space Echo (AKA label co-founder Lee Stevens and fellow Austrian Christoph 'caTekk' Abele). Happily, there's plenty to admire, from the loopy, smoky, blues-house shuffle of opener "Go Down" - where infectious, impassioned vocal samples ride a loopy, string-drenched groove - to the fantastically righteous '70s-funk-goes-acid stomp of closer "Rainbow Power". "Rare Function", another trip into chunky disco-house territory that boasts some notable electric piano samples, is also quietly impressive.

Review: Destination Manchester: Young Guns harness the emergent energy of young Dutta who builds on his two year profile with his biggest EP to date. Balancing a trippy jazz with brutal bass pressure and local MC talent, he's developing a cool signature as tracks like "Questions", "Smoke Clouds" and "Swarm" go in ham on the bass riff before puffing out big smoky 20s jazz rings. Elsewhere "Lightning" follows suit with woozy trumpets and a car-crushing bassline, "Manchestvia" activates the warheads, "Take Me Back A Few Years" is a sweet-talking Omni Trio style roll-out while "Da Style" shuts down the system with basses rolled on the slimy thigh of an alien gangster.

Review: French legend Ludovic Llorca is back under the Art Of Tones guise for the always impressive Local Talk. Acid soul funk? You bet! Take a listen to I "Just Can't (Get Over It)" and you'll believe there is such a thing. On the flip, the smooth and soulful groove continues on "Dirty Stories" which has an undeniably French touch about it, with good use wonky synths, emotive strings and SP1200 style vocal cut ups. Deepness in the vein of Pepe Braddock or Chateau Flight.

Review: Ahead of his debut Prophecy, heavyweight dagger-wielder Nu Elementz shows us his hand with two turbo-charged, super-lean tech-twisted bust-ups. "Chop Shop" stabs gleefully with an alien Q&A and a pirate swagger to the drum swing. "Pablo Escobar" takes a similar approach with its stark question/answer style riff that rips through unique bass textures but the breakdown is where the heat really lies... Spacey, Wild West and thugged all at the same time, this works a treat on a big rig.

Review: Veteran French producer, Bruno 'Patchworks' Hovart has been creating beautifully crafted vintage-sounding soul, funk and disco for about two decades now. However "No Stoppin' Dat Rockin'" marks his first release for a number of years, and it's good to have him back. This time he offers up five new quality jams; highlights including the delicious virtuosity of his sumptuous Michael Jackson cover "Rock With You (Orchestral Version), the title track's deep and jazzy analogue house and the pulsating retro disco-tech of "Juno Disco". C'est magnifique!

Case in point: "Sour Diesel" a collection of peaktime jump-up slammers that buzz with off-the-wall sonics and brute force. From the classic rave feels of "Keep On" to the grizzly gutter-sounds of "The Gallows" and "Soul Diesel" to the hardcore-meets-Prototypes style laser bending of "Jump Up". Just like its sticky namesake this "Sour Diesel" is actually super sweet.

Review: From their recent online musings, it seems that the award-winning Scour Records seem to be as equally fond of the other type of swinging as they are the style of music they've done so well at releasing thus far. Thankfully here we're only about the music and what a lot of it there is on Scoured Swing Vol 1. Here label owner DJ Spinforth selects eight of the best new jams around. Highlights include the classy, laid back opener "About Me" by The Fritz, the dubstep-meets-Charleston vibes of "Swingers" by Father Funk and the epic electro-swing monster "Cufflinks & Caviar" by Tuxedo Junction.

Review: Building on the momentum of his comeback EP "Back On The Edge" earlier this year, Shifta returns with four more angular hurters. "Rubber Grip" takes us into the future with its techy bass texture, jumpy riff and sharp splashes of amen slappage while "Don't Move" takes us back in time to V's prime when Krust and Die dished out history-making workouts. "Going Down" continues the energetic tech-toned funk while "Leviathan" strip teases down to its flick knife two-step and 97-style paranoid drone bass. Clearly Shifta doesn't just have history, but he knows how to use it, too.

Review: Double decade business: Total Science celebrate their label's big two-oh with an on-point collection of ageless constructs from friends old and new. Naturally, everyone arrives to the party in their sharpest finery; Break's cheeky rave references on the juiced up "Unified", the ugly undertones and system-melting weight of Total Science, Digital & Spirit's incredible "Apply The Pressure", Calibre's cosmic ping-pong jam "The Trot", Nymfo's dreamy harmonic heaven "Game Of Love", The Invaderz swashbuckled drum session "Be Around"... Not one player has tailored a shabby garm, ensuring well-suited jams for decade to come.

They're not wrong; this one is reminiscent of MCDE's Raw Cuts series; pure disco cut-up goodness. Ponty Mython's "Lovin' You Is A Pleasure" goes for more of the tropical, low-slung house vibe to fuel exotic daydream fantasies while Newcastle's NY*AK does slo-mo house good a proper covered in the right amount of dust and smokiness.

Review: If life teaches you anything it's to expect the unexpected. Here the mighty re-edit label Katakana deliver their 42nd instalment of scapel jobs. However, this time, rather than have a specific producer curate an EP, they've shaken up the formula and delivered a compilation of edits. There's a whopping 24 reworks to enjoy too, many thrills and spills, but our favourites include Morlack's explosive drum-lead MJ cover, "Don't Stop", Mister Vagz' corny 60s mash-up "Love Me Venus" and Dim Zach & Deem's baggy rework of the Happy Monday's sublime "Loose Fit".

Review: Nebraska has been a busy boy of late, delivering killer material on both Mister Saturday Night and Delusions of Grandeur. Here he dons his favourite balaclava and joins Detroit Swindle's Heist. He begins with the groovy, loose and low-slung disco-house bump of "Khan's Bargain", which is also brilliantly remixed by obscure boogie specialist Tom Noble. The tempo increases dramatically on the wide-eyed deep house sprint of "The Blues", before Nebraska enhances his Balearic house credentials thanks to the blissful synthesizer arpeggio lines and swirling chords of "It Won't Be Long". The spacey, string-drenched shuffle of "Varkala" draws a fine EP to a close.

Review: Perhaps of the most consistent and influential chapters of Bryan Gee and Jumping Jack Frost's D&B dynasty, Philly Blunt has been responsible for some of the most serious jungle benchmarks in its 22 year history. Here we find its repertoire in the trusted hands of Serum as he updates, edits and contextualises the label's history, present and future. From the many Roni-sized Firefox pieces such as the stark warbles of "True Grit" and Krusty-flavoured Glamour Gold jams such as "You Can Run" to more contemporary pieces like Serum & Voltage's mischievous jump-up funk "Save This World" and Bladerunner's immense update on Dillinja's "I Selassie I". To the point.

"Side Splitter" is a rumbling, low-bass riff workout with traces of early-to-mid 2000s Full Cycle while "Now What" is one of the breeziest bassline shakers you'll hear all season. Simple, times, authentic - this will work in any style of D&B set.

Review: Quite remarkably, Obas Nenor's 2015 debut 12", My Way Home, appeared on Moodyman's Mahogani Music imprint. Since then, he's released hot material on Strictly Rhythm and Sol Power Sound. Here, he pops up on Detroit Swindle's Heist imprint with another strong collection of hazy, low-slung deep house shufflers. He begins with the loose, cheesecake-rich warmth of "The Door", before dipping the tempo a little on the funk-infused groove jam "Glimpse Of Light". There's a pleasingly bluesy feel about the bold and melodious "UV Lights", while "Wakee" offers a nu disco-influenced take on Detroit Beatdown. Mr Tophat's dense, deliciously percussive remix of "The Door" completes an excellent package.

Review: Bristol-based bass enthusiast Sorrow has a reputation as a "moody electronic outsider", at least musically speaking. While this latest EP on his Shinigrim imprint is, predictably, more than a little on the baked side, the young producer mostly steers clear of pitch-black paranoia. Opener "Stockyards" boasts clean, punchy percussion and throbbing sub-bass, but feels breezy rather than stiflingly humid. The same could be said about the swinging, dub-wise "Projekts", while "Pirate Banter" makes great use of ricocheting dub samples and a booming, pitched-down soundsystem "riddim". Even "Arisen", with its' manipulated R&B vocal samples and foreboding bass drops, is relatively cheery.

Review: Bristol's X-Ray Ted is about the light and fun party jams, no cool digger's obscurities welcome here. Here he serves four guaranteed floor fillers starting with "Mild Mild West", a loose-limbed disco rendition of the Good The Bad and The Ugly theme, next "Too Good" sees Aretha Franklin get a house-shaped whoosh under her backside, "EveryMoney" meanwhile sees some vintage soul fused with classic Kelis and ODB and finally "Hold Tight" sees the show close with some sizzling neon-flecked arpeggiated disco..
