Review: Session Victim's 2012 debut full-length The Haunted House of House was arguably one of the best deep house albums of the year. Here, they return with their first new material since. Opener "Yes I Know" features their trademark loose, swinging drums, warm chords and classic deep house sheen, alongside a healthy amount of what sounds like organic instrumentation. With the addition of a delicious disco vocal sample, it makes for wonderful listening. Max Graef remixes, turning in a version that sounds like a deeper take on 6th Borough Project. "Glow In The Dark", meanwhile, is wholeheartedly Balearic - a blindingly sunny slice of semi-live disco-house bagginess that should get maximum rotations in warmer climes this summer.

Review: If it ain't broke don't fix it as they say, and this Euro party edits producer is certainly living by this maxim. Here we find the talented producer providing Greek label Timewarp with a selection of his reworks of disco obscurities. As usual it's hard to not want to get up dance to his infectious remixes including the pulsating, arpeggiated 80s night drive of "Yull Disco Breaks (instrumental)", the wah-wah heavy hip-house of "Blast" and the chaotic acid funk of "Nose Dive".

Review: Jacques Renault and Marcos Cabral's OTP Party Breaks series has always been a reliable source of floor-filling edits and reworks. This latest installment is arguably one of the strongest releases in the series to date. Cabral kicks things off with his edit of "Latin Box", a formidable chunk of titanium-clad proto-house business that evokes images of sweaty New York basements and Chicago warehouses. Renault continues the theme on his synth-heavy homage to the 'proto' era, "Love Reaction" - all razor-sharp drum edits, cut-up vocal stabs and fierce freestyle synths. Crate-digger and renowned editor Kon provides some sublime loopy disco on "No Mistake", before WooHoo steal the show with the low-slung disco house monster "Nightwalker", a cut-and-paste fusion of elements from familiar (and lesser-known) disco cuts.

Review: Arriving at a fourth Midnight Riot label compilation in little over a year is no mean feat for Yam Who?'s ISM operation, and the key to their success lies in the diversity of sounds you can include within the overarching theme of nocturnal grooves. And of course the high standard of artists that contribute, with this bumper 23 track selection no different as Yam Who? call on some respected names to contribute; seeing the likes of Joey Negro, Ilya Santana, Rakyo and LTJ Experience puts you at ease as you know you are in good hands - the Negro edit of Yambee's Ballistic Brothers classic "Blacker" is a notable highlight. Review: After successfully remixing some very popular dance tunes to widespread approving nods from the likes of Loadstar, Clean Bandit and Naughty Boy, the Bristol duo have returned to the studio to furnish the bass music community with a second EP released on cutting edge label Black Butter. Bringing together house, garage and bassline for that oh-so-now deep house feel with a characteristically twisted outlook, each track is a swarming mass of influences and irresistible experimentation. "Scatter" in particular has that perfect MNL combo of hip-swinging dancefloor compatibility and relentless hard-hitting beats and you've almost definitely already heard the badness of "Levels" on your travels. Review: Of late, veteran Venezuelan DJ/producer Pablo Sanchez (now residing in Barcelona) has been pushing a sound based around deep house, nu-disco and Afro-funk. However for this new release he appears to return to the jazzier influences that informed his earlier work. "Out & About" is six minutes of party clap beats and sizzling freeform jazz. On the remix front, Kyodai goes for a crazy, escalating, Dave Brubeck inspired freakout while Opolopo delivers a more familiar funky house version.

Review: Some 'best-of' collections seem to arrive way too early. Arrogantly so with some artists. But when you've released 23 EPs and five albums since 2005, it's definitely justified. Especially when you've got a back cat as impressive as Mr Pluse's. Ranging from the Hammond-smashing swinger "Pleasuretown" to the skank-bounce stepper "The Market St Hustle" via the early Dub Pistols-flavoured "Never Get Old", Pluse's accomplished ability to serve any party is more than established and celebrated here. A great way to get up to speed if you're not yet acquainted.

Review: In the last 18 months, Dutch duo Detroit Swindle has come from nowhere to become one of deep house's go-to names. This three-tracker for Tsuba - their first for Kevin Griffiths' label - is another 'must-check' release. Lead cut "Sometimes" is typical of their output to date; deep, stylish, quietly soulful and blessed with relentless riffs that propel the track forwards at a rate of knots. Arguably better is "That Freak Stuff", a slick chunk of deepness blessed with some rougher drums, an addictive bassline and some atmospheric, whispered vocal samples. Soulphiction remixes, turning the track on its head thanks to shuffling analogue drums, a fuzzy bassline and some glistening pianos.

Review: Brontosaurus is a lovingly curated compilation from Permanent Vacation profiling the defunct Frankfurt label of the same name. Founded in 2006, Thomas Sabrowsky, Lauer and Arto Mwambe's Christian BeiBwenger, Brontosaurus enjoyed a four year period of releases focused on "proto dance music long after its [emergence]" and can feasibly be viewed as the precursor to the triumphant Live At Robert Johnson club and label. This conclusive digital release paints an impressive picture of a label whose part in Frankfurt's rich electronic music heritage cannot be discounted. Move D's remix of Arto Mwanbe's "Hum Along" and Lauer's "Renard (With No Regard 2006)" are standout inclusions.

Review: Music For The People return with their eighth release by none other than main edit man, Krakowski, who has already injected a great deal of boogie retouching into the label thanks to his previous EP. "Skabotage" opens things up in true stepper style, bringing in those brass horns and placing them over some Beastie Boys lyrics to mix things up more than ever before! "The Final Skankdown" is more of a lover's rock ting, re-hashing a track that's almost too famous to name, whereas "Dubbing My Religion" adds a roots-style percussion work over yet another pop anthem. Review: Given his encyclopedic knowledge of music, you'd expect any compilation put together by Bill Brewster to be full of unlikely gems and lesser-known anthems. That's certainly the case with After Dark, the first in a new DJ-focused series from the Late Night Tales camp. From start to finish, Brewster's selections are spot on, from the lowdown, slo-mo disco oddness of Sheffield chanteuse Marti Caine's "Love The Way You Love Me" and wide-eyed, acid-laden kosmiche of Coober Peder University Band's "Moon Plain", to the dirty electrofunk of Zed Bias's "Koolade" (featuring Toddla T, of all people) and mid'80s percussion fest of Martin Kershaw's "Keep On Pokin". If that wasn't enough, Brewster has also unearthed a decent Jamiroquai record. The wonders never cease.

Review: It's not all that long since Local Talk's first Talking House compilation dropped. Given the sheer volume of 12" singles from the label - there seems to be one every week these days - it's little surprise to see this follow-up dropping in double-quick time. The label's best material has always been superb, and there are some real gems here. Check, for example, Dirtytwo's clever (and exceptionally well executed) fusion of HNNY's "For The Very First Time" and Midnight Star's "Midas Touch", John Mood's "Basement Romance" (clearly inspired by classic Mood II Swing), and Cle's colossal piano house bomb "The Jam". Oh, and the thrill-packed blast of Balearic magic that is Fred Everything's "Brothers & Sisters (AM Pacific)".

Review: More edity goodness as Luca Trevisi digs deep with two new discerning grooves. "Dreaming" is laid back sludger of Mark-E or Quiet Village style proportions. Leaning heavily on a small sampled hook and diced vocals, it's the ultimate warmer-upper or sunset soundtrack. For more groove welly and rhythmic chugginess head for "Don't Let The System Get You Down" and instantly get lost in the groove.

Review: The Legendary Sound Orchestra continues his attempt to provide disco edit lovers with something extraordinary, with a third collection of hand picked reworks. Predictably, there's plenty to enjoy, from his own sparse, piano-heavy version of Silvetti's Salsoul classic "Spring Rain", to the rolling, bongo-laden goodness of 78 Edits' sprightly but loopy "Don't You Know". Highlights-wise, it's a toss-up between Alkalino's baggy disco-soul shuffler, "Have A Ball", and Jimmy The Twin's superb, TR-707-enhanced "Party Down". The latter, a horn-heavy chunk of upbeat disco-funk, is arguably the Bristol-based scalpel fiend's best work to date.

Review: Whiskey Disco returns with a quartet of blisteringly good reworks from Dead Rose Music Company and Satin Jackets. Dead Rose Music Company open proceedings in style with "Nothin To Ya", a brilliantly low-slung, bass-heavy re-edit-turned-remix of the Jones Girls' "You Gonna Make Me Love Somebody Else" that turns the delightful original into a dubbed-out chunk of dancefloor chugginess. The more upbeat "Too Late", based on a lesser-known favourite, is almost as good. Satin Jackets' "The Hustle" provides some looser - but still formidably heavy - dewy-eyed disco-soul thrills, while "I Can See The Light" is more Balearic than a wet, sloppy kiss from a grinning stranger.
