Tsuki - "Kit Kat" - (4:28) 175 BPM Biggest-selling track on this release
from $1.93
Review: Feel the force: Macky Gee's Down 2 Earth returns with their second "Gravity" collection and it's every bit as essential as its namesake... Hizzleguy trumps the game with an 8-bit remix we've always dreamt of. Full of muscles and mushrooms, you'll be collecting gold coins for a long time to come. Other highlights include the nagging clipped harmonic bass riff on Tsuki's "Kit Kat", the coiled spring rhythm of Matzet's "Loop 95" the croaking bass and rattling percussion of Leaf's "Business" and Replicant's methodical horn-sampling roll-out charmer "Tiger Marks". Get your coats, you've (gravitationally) pulled.

Review: Just listen to that spaced-out groaning bassline on "The Test". If that doesn't take you off to some murky corners of the deep space of your mind, you might have to get a second opinion on those junglist credentials of yours. Classic Bladerunner. The same can be said for "Kick Off". Warming up mildly before dropping into a jagged, aggy riff (underpinned by warm subby wobbles), it lives up to its name in every way. We know you're gonna dig this!

Review: No drum & bass act has taken the genre to the levels Sigma have achieved. And as the duo continue to bring new ears to the genre, they've stepped aside for some more underground-focused/heavier dancefloor twists from a premiership cast: Calyx & Teebee add a slinky elastic machine funk twist to "Slow Down", Hybrid Minds subvert the soul on "Lost Away" with shimmering results while the legendary G Dub hit major arsonist levels with their turbo-gully take on "Lighters". Elsewhere Annix and The Prototypes completely tear down "Beyond The Wall" and Pegboard Nerds get creative on "Stay". This is what remix collections is all about.

Review: The Sheff City boys are back with 12 high calorie teatime treats all smothered in basslines that are thicker than chippy gravy! If Chip Shop vol 1 announced Chip Butty Recs as the new leading light of the 4x4 Garage sound, then volume 2 suggests that they plan to keep the heat on high at the fryery. Founding members deliver the on-point bangers that we have come to expect from them but it is the newcomers that bring the real sizzlers here; Rico Tibbs ascends to the skies with uplifting rave pianos on "Warning" Judge Chucky draws for the distortion on breakbeat-techno-bass hybrid "Customer Service". While Rolls Royce opts for an old school flex that we would love to see revived this summer festival season. Not a single dud spud in the batch!

Review: One of the savviest axis-flexors in the D&B / jungle game, DJ Hybrid has an all seeing eye across the soundboy spectrum with his two labels and mixed-style signature. Here the full focus is on his flagship label Audio Addict with his first exclusive-powered mix album that covers all the crucial corners. Every track rattles and shakes with energy and subversion: the jungle chaos of his own "Mix & Blend", the iced-out atmos and toxic drop of Swerve's "Massive & Crew", the gunshot bass holes caused by Lost Dynamics "New Funk", the jaw-dropping ruthlessness of Ray Keith's take on "Badboy", the list goes on... DJ Hybrid levels up once more.

Review: The connections continue as California duo Sub Killaz let rip with a second four-track volume of US jump up joints and jungle jams. "Demons" is all about the swaggering triplets and hornet's nest one note stabs, "Look" fusses up a sexy R&B vocal with a pant-dangling rolling groove that's not dissimilar to Break while "Feelings" maintains the high emotion levels but adds a more of grittier, sleazy funk swing. "Druggies" concludes proceedings with big jazzy pianos, a classic rap sample and plenty of twisted cowbell clanging. Just say yes.

Gang Related - (4:25) 176 BPM

Review: Serial Killaz feel that people need an education on what a dubplate actually is. The title track provides a staple amount of reggae infused new school jungle. "Gang Related" has been thrashed by DJs currently supporting this EP and for a valid reason. The label claims "It's a nasty piece of filth that belongs in the gutter, the type of track you would only dare to drop in a really moody dance." They then up the ante on "Colour", with plenty of funk and wobbles. Then "Hit The Streets" brings the vibe into new territory with plenty of panic ridden vocals, rumbling basslines and skippy swing breaks. Lastly 'Ready' features well known vocal samples, gunshot effects and no-nonsense production make this an amazing end to the EP.

Review: Is it you? Is it your neighbour? Is it your mum? Still no one knows who Dawn Wall is (or are) but we know we're cruising point blank towards an album. Here are four more reasons to look forward to it; "Twin Falls" rolls with the anonymous artists' signature piano lulls and a hazy vocal sample. Simple, soulful, bliss. "Mantis" hits a little harder with warm insistent key strikes, a groaning bassline and some interesting textures fluttering overhead while "Holding On" flexes a Gill Scott vocal and Think Break with guitar glistening perfection. Finally "Marina" takes us out to choppier oceans where the seas and keys are notes of deep blue. The mystique continues...

Review: Who can say no to an extra blunt? Make that six extra smoke-fests as three legendary Philly faves roll in with their finest VIP and dubplate murkery. Serum takes the lead with the first half of the game scoring goal after goal. The groaning tones of "The Finger" are finally released from solely dubplate status, "Battle Cry" is a gut-punching, loin-girding step-side banger while Trigga returns to assist on a sneaky update on one of Serum's biggest tunes - "Phenomenon". Firefox 'Sizes' up the dance with a ridiculously gritty VIP on "Keep It Raw" and the annihilating shocker "Overproof" while Heist shakes up "90% Rusk" for 2017 floors. Not a dry eye, body or pair of trousers in the house.

Review: Lumberjacks In Hell just keep on trucking, this time calling upon the legendary skills of Karizma in setting their latest EP alight. "Work It Out" is a fiery slice of gospel choppery, whipping up a fevered line in vocal insistence that hardly needs a rhythm section to make you move, but still has the necessary goods underneath the hood. Marcel Vogel follows a similar tact on "I Got Jesus", spacing the jam out and working a bit more groove, but certainly tapping into the same spiritually enhanced vein. Karizma then returns to make an aptly named "Stomp Dub" of the track, rounding off an absolute beast of a party record.

Review: Now in their third year of operations, Clawhammer continue to lay down outrageous dancefloor grit, this time with the highly influential Jaydan at the controls. Cooking up two crucial versions, it's another all-out screwface session: Dub Frequency's Noisia-referencing "My World" gets a murkier, grainier full-body assault while D Side's "Molotov" is exploded with a rawer bass texture and gallons more petrol. Pure fire.

Deep, soulful but not afraid to slap you silly with grit or funk across the set we're treated to triplet-teasing elastic double bass freakery from Raw Q, total soul magic by Philth, SolidFrame and Collette Warren, cloud-leaping amen bliss from Ill Truth and white knuckle space funk from the daddy Randall and label bossman Ben Soundscape. Review: It would be fair to say that Macc and Loz Contreras have made something a splash in the D&B scene since first joining forces back in 2013. It's also true that few contemporary producers are capable of delivering such musically rich, soul-flecked liquid funk. Their trademark sound - rolling breaks, sparkling electronic, carefully selected samples and melodies aplenty - is much in evidence throughout this fine debut album, which gathers together both previously released singles and previously unheard fare. Highlights come thick and fast, from the disco-sampling dancefloor bliss of "Better World" and the sun-soaked brilliance of bass-heavy carnival roller "Wanna Be Your Lover", to the sub-heavy assault that is "Switch". A handful of remixes from other artists - including liquid soul mate S.P.Y - complete a quality package.

Review: Aroop Roy is a producer, singer and multi-instrumentalist originally from the UK and now residing in Tokyo. Be prepared for one well funky and soul infused journey on "Talkin Bout Life" which is perfect to bring in the summer of 2017. Funky elements, a serious horns section and strong vocals hold up this brilliant track. It's a more straight ahead deep house affair on the rather evocative "We Together" and actually its the kind of track you could imagine Derrick May or Dixon playing out; there are definitely elements of 'hi-tech soul' in it. The Brisa remix of Talkin Bout Life" on the flip is a worthy addition also.

We're hurled to the floor with sheet metal dubby synth ripples of "Keep On Searching" before being picked up and dusted down by the already massive euphoric riff blaster "Love Unlimited"... Only to be hurled down even harder by the chiming Randallesque fusion of gully badassery on "Alone In The Dark". Elsewhere "Soldiers" slaps with ragga soul before "Black Ops" closes the show with a homage to techstep and Subtitles-style iciness. Bring on the next two chapters, stat!

Review: Clayton, Loxy & Ink are the original Hardware family. Together they spawned a style and sound that would eventually come to epitomise Renegade Hardware. Instantly recognisable, it's roots are firmly placed in the world of drums and unbridled darkness. Along with fellow cohorts Gremlinz, Skitty & Phobia they have managed to keep this unique sound well and truly alive. Their unwavering vision has been solidly represented by this incredible collection of tracks. Be it the Unrelenting march of Philth & Agman Gora's "The Void", Universal Project's sleazy groove on "Dog Pound" or new upstart Voltage's rolling 'Born Again', this tunes deliver in fine style. And as you would expect, there's also appearances from Loxy & Ink themselves on "Serial Killa" and "We".

Review: Nottingham based Ron Basejam is the anagrammed alter-ego of Crazy P co-founder James Baron who creates music with feelings on labels such as Futureboogie and Wolf Music and now for Freerange sister label Delusions Of Grandeur. On the fittingly titled The Sound Of A Feeling EP he serves up the charmingly titled "Shit Wizard" a soulful, nu-disco boogie-down jam. "We Walk To War" in its original form is the kind of lo-slung/slo-mo disco that really floats our boat, but the remix up next by Tee Mango really injects it with some Stevie Wonder style soul-funk that'll help get your shine on. The title track is the deepest and most emotive offering here, with its sublime and hypnotic qualities being pushed along by a tight groove.

Review: They've been doing it for years, but junglists finally have an actual reason to throw a "Temper Tantrum". With all the venom of 100 online beefs and 10 MC scraps and one gentle nudge down the stairs, "Temper Tantrum" is seriously peaktime and sets the seismic tone for the whole EP. The nutty rises of "It's Possible", the hornets nest buzzes and stings of "Terrorick", the jazzy subversion and palpitating bass of "Blow" and the sinewy Clipz-style bass snarls of "Run This Again" all follow with fittingly electric results. Go ahea...Lose your tempers.

Review: UK producer Distinkt is on some next level vibes with this new one-track bullet for the shady Crucast mandem, and he's mixing up genres like it's 2001. "China Town" sounds more Brixton than Shanghai; the tune is full of pace and dark, ominous bass frequencies, driven by a quick-firing 4/4 groove that manages to mould percussion and bass with the upmost skill and tactic. Badman ting.

Review: Strictly for the woken: Jaydan's back with some cold hard truth about the world we live in and how violent times call for violent sounds... "Priorities" is all about the broken glass funk, all spiked out and rasping, "It's On Fire" rides on a spooked out loop before switching to major arsonist mode with a Taxman level riff made of pure nasty, "Finish You Quick" ensures everyone in the area dies by laser bass while "Violent Nature" brings us to a fittingly gritty close with sounds so advanced, that we can only assume Jaydan's gone into the future and sampled from a great robot war. Big society bangers.

Review: There's something pleasingly old-fashioned about Happy Again, an album of alternative versions and remixes of tracks from Eli Escobar's acclaimed Happiness full-length. Thanks to the presence of DJ-friendly dubs, rhythm tracks and acappellas, it feels like Classic looked to the pioneering remix albums of the 1980s for inspiration. What really makes it stand out, though, is the quality of the material. Kon's rework of "Happiness (Part 2)" offers the perfect balance between subtle house and voodoo disco, while Soulphiction and Soul Clap steal the show with contrasting deep house takes on "Can't Stop Dancing" and "4 Luv". We're particularly impressed, too, with the freestyle-tinged revision of "Chaka Khan" by The Carry Nation, while Escobar's own dub of "Happiness (Part 2)" is a loose, warm and groovy treat.

Review: British producer Birdee has been quietly doing his thing since the turn of the decade, delivering a string of underground nu-disco hits on a variety of labels. Here he returns to ISM three months after his last outing (the fine Love EP), this time with a trio of ear-pleasing Balearic boogie productions. Vocalist Chloe Amber guest stars on title track "Give Into Love", a sumptuous, sun-kissed fusion of lilting deep house dreaminess, sparkling '80s soul sounds and hazy disco warmth. With its jammed-out analogue synth riffs, fizzing electronics and elastic bass guitar parts, "Tonite" is an essential instrumental workout, while "Dinamo" alternates between sumptuous melodiousness and stripped-back, bass-driven disco-funk heaviness.

Review: Having collided before on Heist's own Calypso Muzak with "Kuma Bear", Heist and Spaow lock horns once again, this time on Phantom Dub Digital. Taking a side each, both artists go all-in with two balls-out party damagers. Heist's "Detected" is straight out of the mid 2000s when he really made his mark on the game with a bass sound so twisted not even Clipz could touch him. Spaow's "Want To Know" acts all mean and gruff with myriad bass textures but suddenly shows a much more sensitive, soulful side with the swooning keys on the mid-section. Two premium slabs of bassweight right here if you can handle them?

Gradients is the label's first compilation and brings together its small but powerful roster with a string of close friends and allies, giving prominence to both well-known names - dBridge, DJ Earl, Stray, Om Unit (under his Philip D Kick guise) and newcomers such as Lewis James, Tusais, Touchy Subject and Tehbis. This is a glorious celebration of Astrophonica's growth, as well as its stylistic roots and forward thinking ethos. Each of the 13 tracks have been tested in the clubs over the past year to ensure an all killer/no filler experience. Respect!

What i love most about Steve is hes trod his own path and always been willing to give anything a try and made some of the best tunes of all time along the way. Hes not precious - a tunes a tune and to me that makes it all very real. He's always been massively inventive and can come straight out of the left field with some mad whacked out ideas. Majorly influential. Anyways, its good to see him back on Headz with a nice EP. SunBites and Understand are the stand outs here, Sun Bites having been a mainstay in my sets for quite awhile now and it's absolutely superb, reminding me of some mid 90s Bukem type vibes. Classy drum & bass with clear roots in all the right places and the perfect amount of weight, space and energy, the music does all the talking. The series distills the stream of exciting new artists that have become semi-permanent fixtures in Gilles' playlists and DJ sets of late to create a suite of perfect bumps. The compilation is now in its twelfth release and there's some real gems on this edition: just some of the highlights are: the soothing inner city blues of Selbeyone's "Are You In Peace?", Kathy Hoskins and the legendary Paul Randolph's magical soul excursion "Could You Be Me?" (channeling the vibe of Roy Ayers' Ramp project) or The Pendletons with the wonderful "Gotta Get Out" which will give you your funky acid nu-jazz fix, for sure.

Review: Justice! The time gods are bestowing positive vibes on us as DC Breaks deliver the album they've been talking about for almost half a decade. The euphoric piano-slapping power of "Never Stop" sets the scene as the duo explore the vibrant and creative contrast they've made their signature in the last 10 years. Highlights include the shred-stacked "Underground", the croaking highly-sprung aggy "Hustle", the neuro-inspired roof-burner "Organism" and the touching vocal closer "Time To Kill". Complete with 2017 reboots of their anthems "Gambino and "Swag", the Ram duo have wrapped up a bonafide opus.

Review: Since forming the Bermuda band last year, Aussie adventurer Harvey Sutherland has delivered a string of loose, oven-hot singles that effortlessly combine the best of boogie, soul, jazz-funk and Beatdown style deep house. With Bermuda providing live drums, keys, guitar and bass, Expectations sees Sutherland continue this fine run of form. It's a mini album chocked full of sparkling, sun-kissed cuts that defy simple categorization. For example, "Coast 2 Coast" expertly fuses a deep house aesthetic with elements of P-funk and jazz-funk, while the deep and spacey "Expectations" and "Spiders" - the latter also blessed with sublime strings - feel more horizontal and Balearic in tone. The strings return on the Metro Area-ish brilliance of "Saturn's Return", which may well be the set's most beguiling moment.

Review: It's been a strong year so far for the soulful D&B big boy Pennygiles with appearances on Metalheadz and now his debut on Dispatch. Playing a restrained game of contrasts and shade throughout, this is one of his most detailed and accomplished EPs to date: the mutant alien texture and evocative chords of "These Feelings", the hurricane atmospheres of "All Seeing", the subdued shimmers and ripples of "So Near" and the incredible depths and sub shakes of "Sheltered Life". Complete with a Zero T remix, this is a major win for all concerned.

Review: Dynamic duo Wickaman & Mavrick return with another one of their illicit under the counter romps. Firstly getting to grips with an iconic Peggy Lee hook. Something that you wouldn't necessarily expect to sit well with furious jungle beats but fear not as the blend is seamless and the timeless vocal accompanies beats so snappy they could give ravers whiplash and a bassline that has more wobble than James Corden's midriff as he drives over a pothole. Flipside "Kill em with your know" is inspired my Mr Vegas' advisory anthem Heads High and the carnival vibes are ramped up even further by the crisp jungle beats and dubwise bassline. No ifs no buts Jungle Strikes are the party starters!

Review: After some real hits by the likes of Natsirk, Filthy Gears and Toka, London's Ghost House present Brighton bad boy Moony. The promising upstart drops his second EP for the label but this time on a bass and garage flex. Starting off with the deep and sexy shuffle of the title track, he's then into some proper UK flavour on the funky party starter "Far From You" which is absolutely hot. Plus of course, there's the massive tune 'Without You' as featured on the hit compilation Pure Bassline.

Review: Cheekily, Todd Terje has decided to put out these remixes of forthcoming album track "Jungelknugen" before we've had a chance to hear the original version. While it's hard to know how revolutionary these remixes are - or otherwise - it's fair to say that both Four Tet and Prins Thomas have brought their A-game. Keiran Hebden steps up first, layering up looped, kosmiche style synthesizer refrains, wide-eyed piano motifs, low-slung analogue bass, and the kind of jazzy, off-kilter drum machine beats that simultaneously feel loose and sturdy. While undoubtedly impressive, it lacks the hustle and bustle of Prins Thomas's interpretation, which is drive forwards by heavy, bleep techno style sub bass and the producer's own groovy disco drums.

Review: While re-editors come and go, Frico AKA DJ Friction has been serving up fine re-edits in regular intervals for the best part of 15 years. The two scalpel jobs showcased here are arguably amongst his most impressive to date. As the title suggests, "Dance, Dance, Dance" is a rework of a particularly well-known New York disco milestone. While faithful to the original in the opening stages, it gets a little more dubbed-out and eccentric over the course of its near 10-minute duration, with Frico giving greater prominence to the instrumental elements and drum breaks. Hit the virtual flipside for "So You Wanna Be A Star", a tasteful rearrangement of boogie-era disco shuffler laden with wiggly synthesizers and bold vocals.
