Review: Time to get those fingers green once again as Leaf fires off the second part to his "Pick N Mix" series. Once again, it's an all-out assault of skanks, rasps and gnarly gurning dynamics that don't just make a crowd dance but electrify it. With its excellent vocal sample and potty bass "Jah" is the definition of 'fire' and DJs should call the local fire brigade before planning on dropping it, "Riddim" groans under the bass pressure before twisting you with an array of percussive elements, "Get Down" shows Leaf at his more stripped back, steppy and crispy, "Tosh" pays homage to the don with a block-snare bashment serenade while "Inner Connected" reminds us of Leaf's more soulful side. Job done... Just like any good pick n' mix, all flavours are covered - and every single one of them is sweet.

Review: He's back! One of Full Cycle's most high profile new family members returns with his largest EP to date. "The Grand Chapter" leads with an army of happy-slapping breaks and a bassline that taps deep into the Bristol psyche. Elsewhere "Mijushen Style" looks east for inspiration as an oriental intro hurls us face first into a low-end swamp, "Don't Tell Mom" rides bareback on a rolling drumset while a bassline switches in a manner so deviant it should come with an 18 certificate, "Cold Rock Stuff" is a loose-limbed heads-down roller while "Mushrooms" promises to trip you out with its wild drum science and technoid sense of space. Trust us, these jams are so fresh there's no chance of history repeating here (not sorry!)

Review: Having delivered their De-Evolution album over the course of three EPs over the last year, New Zealand's gnarliest bass slappers The Upbeats have now asked some of their mates for the all essential revisions. And they haven't gone in half measures as Malux, Rockwell, Annix, Agressor Bunx, Black Sun Empire, Memtrix and Emperor all deliver fresh chapters.... Empire's subversion of the depths of "Prism", the overwhelming emotional rush on Memtrix's take on "Say Go" and BSE's almighty thrashes and bashes on "DOOM" are just three examples of how epic these versions are.

Review: Swiss mandem Qbig & Zenith B have undergone a total re-focus and re-branding to return as QZB. And this heavyweight, multi-flavoured beast is this is their crucial opening statement. Covering more ground than they have in the past, but all with a consistent signature that's both powerful and stark, across the EP we're treated to space-age minimal rollers ("WYGD" and "Valhalla"), ghetto-busting footwork funk ("Apollo"), gritty riff steppery ("Turning Point") and sublime soul-burning halftime ("Revenant") Make no mistakes: the Basel boys have just upped several gears... This should not be slept on.

Review: Witness the Furniss! Rolling through the year with key cuts and EPs on the likes of Higher Stakes and Cre8, the mysterious murker dents Boylan's exciting new label On Point Audio. Five tunes deep, each one charging with firm focus on the two crucial elements this genre is founded on; the basslines grunt and have steam charging from their nostrils while the drums rattle and slap with a loose roll but firm punch. Highlights include the Rivera-nodding soul-stormer "Thief In The Night" and the canon ball banger "Tune Fa Tune" but the whole EP commands your attention. And does so urgently.

Review: KiNK's taster for his up and coming album on Running Back is here. We don't know if the title is inspired by the Scottish town that techno larrikins Clouds are from, or the sleepy mining town in Western Australia: it's anyone's guess! The Bulgarian hardware maverick brings us some funked up disco loops, reminiscent of DJ Sneak's Sneaky Trax imprint back in the day. "Perth" is a prime example of his unstoppable knack for good times. Taken from the new Playground LP, the three versions here are dripping with grease. Split between the original, a chord mix (which is brooding and epic) and a funky beat version full of sultry latin percussion: it's all you ever wanted from a single. Perfect house music for techno DJs and techno music for disco DJs.

Review: Matt Edwards marked the 100th release in Rekids earlier this year with a release that featured "Feel the Same", and now he is putting out the debut Radio Slave album using the same title. It's a real mixed bag; "2nd Home" starts with gentle ambience and the dreamy breaks of "Forana", before the UK producer changes pace and drops the album version of the title track in all its vocal-heavy, driving glory. If its insistent riffs get too much, then there is the low-slung bass-heavy groove of "Trans" and the dubbed out abstractions of "Draw" to keep his audience guessing. Rekids may now be a house music institution, but as "Feel the Same" shows, it doesn't slide into predictability.

Review: Story has it that a bunch of Amsterdam's current scene heroes had studios in the basement of a hotel opposite the former iconic Trouw nightclub (RIP). One morning, local enfant terrible San Proper happened to cross paths with Nachtbraker (early on a Tuesday morning) and that's how this collaboration of sorts came about. More specifically, San Proper "casually grabbed a microphone.. Nachtbraker pressed record, Dr. Proper got his inner Mick Jagger on, and behold: Misses, madame, mademoiselle was born". Hear the cowboy of minimal house croon over Nachtbraker's funky disco loops on "M.m.m" (feat San Proper's Elegy), while Hamburg's finest Session Victim remix the track next: giving it more dancefloor dynamic. Second original offering "Hamdi" is a hammering disco house joint that will really rock the house, while the remix up next by Bli takes it down a couple of notches, plus a slight Afro touch into something deeper to mood light the early evening.

Review: This entire EP is stunning, softly singing to the Shogun signature sound of rolling, liquid tech. Setting the tone for the release we start with 'Empire' and we just love Mr Porter's voice, it's just so effortlessly smooth, it nestles beautifully within this lulling track, gorgeous piano, echoing drips and warm sub. 'Forma' takes us to slightly darker planes, with a creepy manipulation on the vox and a low, slowing moving vortex of a b line. 'Some People' has a melancholy vibe, with classic samples and a deep sub, while 'Who's There' is all about the vocal, and it is just divine, juxtaposed light shimmers and dark twisted tones. Trust us, you need this release in your life.

Review: The choice of Tony Humphries to mix Running Back's first label compilation is a significant one. Getting his big break in the early '80s as an understudy for the legendary Shep Pettibone's Kiss FM show, Humphries went on to become one of the defining DJs of house music's formative years, with residencies at New Jersey's Club Zanzibar and London's Ministry of Sound. His previous mixes illustrate his continuing ability to bridge dance music's past and present and his new one for Gerd Janson's imprint will mark its fifteenth anniversary. It is a timely reminder of what has made the Frankfurt powerhouse remain on many favourite label lists for over a decade. It's a mix of golden oldies and recent classics alike: from Todd Terje's smash hit from several years ago "Ragysh" and the anthemic "The Voice From Planet Love" by Precious System, through to more recent bombs. Two by Running back alumnus Shan ("Bassline Party"/"Work It") and the legendary Mr G's Motor City ode "Ben & Gerd" (Killin It M Day).

Review: We are huge fans of Kenji, he's been producing some real jump up bangers, which still have a sense of musicality to them, which we all know is not a common theme. There's so much to love about 'Get Down' the background high pitched buzz, similar to something 'Tyke' would pull out of his hat is set against a sub which sounds like it is floating and decorated with wizzes and pops, the track is pure twisted magic. 'Al Capone' comes to us courtesy of Kenji & Bou, with a similar floating vibe to the bass accompanied by clicky and bleeping beats, this is another one for the floor.

Review: Given that this is Ben Worrall's fourth Crackazat 12" for Local Talk in less than three years, it would be fair to say the project now has a regular home. As with many of his recent tracks, "Proton Blue" looks to classic US garage for inspiration, peppering a bouncy groove with rich organ stabs and jazzy synthesizer melodies. It's accompanied by the alternative "Deep Orbit" version, a more hypnotic and slightly more spacey interpretation that gives greater prominence to the producer's jazzy synthesizer riffs. "Called My Name", meanwhile, is a soulful, jazzy and fluid affair blessed with a hazy vocal and some luscious jazz guitar. The cut's loose and languid jazz-funk influences are explored further on the arguably superior "Meet the Band" remix.

Review: Q's rolling out the heavies right now, track by track, week by week. Following the murked-up two-step party slapper "My Heart" comes this brutal 4x4 chugger "I See". Opening with lush jazzy chords and a sweet sultry vocal we're barged face-first into a crisp high-pitched bassline that fluctuates and into a nagging riff that harmonises as it develops. Straight up worries in the dance; drop this and watch the fireworks erupt.

Review: A chilled Brazilian-tinged boogie cut from the recent Joey Negro epic entitled Produced With Love gets transformed into a piano fuelled, peaktime banger by Swedish jazz musician/producer Crackazat. He retains the Latino flavour of the original but 'adds bags of dance floor energy.' Dave Lee has been one of the most prolific producers in dance music over the last three decades and we would highly recommend the album to anyone who considers themselves a fan of proper house, disco or soul music. It features collaborations with such legends as Diane Charlemagne, Linda Clifford and Alex Mills. In addition to remixes of recent heroes of the scene such as Horse Meat Disco and Peven Everett.

Review: Soul Deep founder and LA drum & bass lynchpin Scott Allen returns to his own label with two more groove delights. Riding in the momentum of this summer's heavily played "This Is Love" comes the soft lilting glimmers and ripples of "Soul Complex" and "Mixed Emotions". The former grows and mutates subtly as the track develops while the latter (a co-lab with Konfront Audio) adds a slightly darker underbelly with the bass and flexes around some seriously sensual sax work. Divine.

Review: Hot Digits enjoyed Kellini's last EP so much that they asked him to come back and this time he's brought fellow Norwegian Saskin S: who follows his The Game EP from last year. The two bring some serious heat with this bunch of energetic nu-disco cuts. Starting off with the neon-lit boogie of "Break A Leg" followed by the low slung groove of "In Doubt" which really takes things deep. It comes alongside remixes from rising Irish producer Stephen Richards, whose rendition of "In Doubt" gets some groovy summertime vibes happening (to get any decent Disco Stu in the mood) while Chewy Rubs' From The Deep dub of "Resaca" takes things down a darker and headier route: which would be perfect for late night mood lighting on the dancefloor.

Review: Essential reissue business: the debut album by recently reformed Bad Company is acknowledged and respected as a true blueprint document for the late 90s / early 2000s darkside arms race where the likes of Virus, Trilogy and BC would flock to Music House with their darkest designs, all inspiring each other to up their game. Raw, freeform and off-the-wall, every track on here has influenced the genre and had an impact: the horror movie orchestration of "Oxygen", the twisted funk of "Trick Of The Light", that insane reese tear-up on "Nitrous", the list goes on. History seldom sounds so future.

Teaming up with longstanding 4x4 don Bassboy, the vibe is a vibey blend of neck-snap breaks and bassline low end. Growling with a little touch of high end rough harmony, kicking with a dash of deep swing LA funk - no one is doing it like the Night Bass crew and AC Slater is leading from the front.

Review: Starting the EP with ther hard hitting, bouncing dancefloor destroyer "Koodana", the melody and heavily mutated bass pleasingly echo each other, the track feels intense and captivating, the vocal is demanding us to 'jump' but we already are. 'Cowabunga' is a noisy, high pitched snap shot of exactly where jump up is today, the jabbing synths will smash the floors with no question. Our favourite track of the sampler has got to be 'Equinox', which showcases Levela's deeper side, using shinier, softer sounds which twinkle against the spiritual moans and the warm pulsating bassline. 'Tyrant' brings us back to the Levela we know with the twisting, bassline taking centre stage, decorated with aggressive and eerie elements and a horror show vox. We're looking forward to the full EP.

Review: Ahead of the massive Architects Volume 1 album, featuring some of Artikal's most innovative creators, bossman Kenzo drops his first original since last year's jungle damagers on ThirtyOne. "Cross Polarity" sees an endlessly shifting bassline slipping and sliding between evolving drum patterns before diving naked into a deep pool of ageless elements that's deeper than a late night whiskey with Hawkin. A taste of things to come and a reminder of why J:Kenzo is an absolute monster at the controls.

Review: Following up the Cold Heart EP by label bosses Dusky, 17 Steps present a new one by Kiwi: the London producer's debut on the label. Having recently released on labels such as Futureboogie, Correspondant and Optimo Music, his distinctive sound is a mix of Italo, techno and electro. The uplifting epic "Marmora's Theme" is powered by a razor sharp arpeggio and balanced out by those hands in the air style piano loops. We were about to draw comparisons to scene heroes Tuff City Kids, but whaddya know: they're up next on the remix! They work their magic as always with a retro flavoured piece of dancefloor drama: they found it fitting to throw in a gnarly Reese bassline too. Epic!

Review: It may be Autumn but you can keep the summer alive with this remix release, working from the original 'Reggae Boom' we have a happy, sunshine track, reminiscent of the upbeat sound of SHY FX. Amens and horns create the relaxed vibe, while the vocal gives us something to grasp onto. The Dub version is as you'd expect, mellowed, slowed and coated in echoes.

Review: This misty street fighting deep stepper has been on dub for far what feels like an eternity: Flexing his dankest muscles throughout, Estonian artist Dub Killer pays homage to the spiritual motherland with breath-taking mystic aesthetics, hypnotising harmonics and truckloads of sub. Remix-wise The Widdler adds an alluring prayer, sitars and a firing bassline that's so hot it can scorch your skin. Finally LA's Khiva adds a hard-hitting cascading drum riff and chops up the prayer call with trippy effect. Yet another sublime DDD release for the collection.

Review: Tale Of Us have revolutionised their Afterlife label over the last few years. Once upon a time, their imprints were about their specific music, a minimalistic take on deep house and soul-ridden tech. This new EP, however, is a perfect example of their recent branching out, with the opening remix of "Monument" being carefully re-stylised by Magazine's head honcho, the ever-impressive Barnt (recently of Hinge Finger recruitment). European techno veteran Stephan Bodzin comes through with a comparatively deeper, dreamier wave of sleek techno, guided here by melancholic male vocals, whereas the moodier Adriatique hands in a much colder, more calculated techno reinterpretation. Solid.

Review: Having set our world alight with his third Ilian Tape EP, 2012, back in the spring, Munich man Skee Mask delivers another essential collection of loose-limbed, broken techno workouts. Typically, he's on point from the word go, enveloping swinging, off-kilter techno breakbeats with swirling chords and cascading melodies on brilliant opener "Inti". His love of African-influenced polyrhythms is explored further on the ghostly, percussion-rich club cut "Kappelberg Chant" (which, incidentally, makes great use of choral chants), while "Routine" is a warm, loved-up and evocative tribute to rave-era British breakbeat-house. His debt to British dance music's formative years also comes to the fore on killer proto-jungle jam "Skreet Lvl Dub".

Review: The crisp tech house machinations of Constant Sound continue apace with this excellent transmission from the ever rising Michael James. "The Story Unfolds" leads the way with a set of slick and slender rhythms locked into a quintessential minimal house swing, with plenty of subtle micro sampling bubbling away between the beats. "VSHL" has a chunkier disposition, using bolder percussive strokes that punch in unison with the wobbly synth lines. "Perseid" is a trippy affair loaded with zippy effects and dubby effects, and then "H15" rounds the EP out with a resolutely deep 4/4 meditation.

Review: It's arrived! We're proud to announce the seventh studio album HA! by British beatmaker Jon Kennedy via his always impressive eponymous imprint. The smoky "Twilight" gets the LP off to a fine start, with some dope Jazzmatazz styled vibes happening. Kennedy then delves deeper (and darker) into the night on killer jams like "Burn Me", a live junglist stepper, balanced out by 'liquid' elements reminiscent of LTJ Bukem. Similarly, "Iron Lung" is undeniably a tribute of sorts to his former stomping ground: Bristol. Here he goes for a modern reinterpretation of drum and bass via deep dubstep: this one will get those lighters in the air, for sure! Elsewhere, he proves that he doesn't only appeal to the new generation; as the smooth and sultry nu-jazz of "Slave To The TV" proves. We must also mention the collaborations: Birmingham songstress Deirdre Gaddis lends her smooth as silk vocals to the exotic/psychedelically blunted groove of "More Things Change" while the straight talking Preacherman waxes lyrical on the state of things over the block rockin' beats of "Heaven". A fine selection of late night tales courtesy of Kennedy & Co. that will enrapture you from start to finish.

Review: International Feel's mini album series seems to explore the space between world beat, balearic and library music. Here, L.A's Pharaohs 'have imagined a place far from the city' on their first release for Mark Barrott's esteemed imprint. Co-founder Sam Cooper has stated that we were influenced by a surfing book by photographer Michael Kew and that a lot of the music was inspired by his travels in the South Pacific and its imagery: an idea of what it would sound like if they were actually there themselves. Cooper met co-founder Ale Cohen in Amoeba Music and the pair started jamming in the late noughties. Diego Herrera (aka Suzanne Kraft) was an original member but now resides in Europe, preventing him from collaborating, moving forward. But still, some of his playing can be heard on the album. Casey Butler aka Stellar Rahim, is the fourth member, who studied composition at CalArts.

Review: Lennard Poschmann may not be as famous as his artistic name sake, but as his first album for Live At Robert Johnson shows, he is keenly aware of electronic music's cinematic power. This is audible on the lush ambience of "Welcome" and "Zerphyx", while similarly emotive sounds are underpinned by a hyper-speed, Juan Atkins style rhythm on "Rise" and "A66", where a warm, buzzing bass supports Poschmann's sublime synths. At times, the album veers too close to other producer's tropes - the delicate "Situation" is the most Aril Brikha track ever made - but like his enigmatic predecessor, Wells throws the futuristic electro of "Trianon" and the bleep-laden soundtrack of "Sincere" to keep his audience guessing, in Third Man style, right till the very end.
