Review:
Every so often, somebody comes along with a genius-like idea and turns some dusty gem into dancefloor gold. That's arguably the case with "Hey Sucker", a sneaky re-edit/rework of bizarre German '80s popsters Hong Kong Syndikat. The band specialized in making the sort of eccentric, off-kilter fare that could be described as 'Balearic', so it's fitting that it's their most wide-eyed moment - 1984 album track "Samba Olec" - getting the scalpel treatment. The virtual A-side sticks closely to the original, cutting, slicing and pasting in all the right places. It's the B-side - a jaunty but surprisingly subtle house re-imagining - that probably has more potential for crossover her success. Silly, but refreshingly so.

Review:
Fresh from Salt Lake City via San Francisco, Illoom delivers some seriously authentic dub vibes here. It's all based on one groove: the EP's namesake "Ganja Bee Riddim". While the title conjures up slightly sad images of stoned stripy insects, it's actually a very sprightly, hypnotising reggae groove with the enduring insistence of the most dedicated worker bee. Throughout the EP, Illoom allows each MC to guide the cut the way they want it. Bunny Lie Lie nods towards the Horace Andy style delivery, Afro Omega add a sense of battle harmony while Cheshire goes for a more throaty, emphatic toast. A very interesting project.
