Andrea Crestani At Juno Download

Review: On the face of it, this split release from Flumo Recordings seems to signal the launch of a new, regular, colour-themed series. Why "Brown" was chosen as the first colour is a mystery, but it's arguably pretty fitting. There's a hypnotic, late night murkiness and chocolate-rich veneer to much of the material, but it's nowhere near dark enough to be 'black'. Mark Chambers' "Dirty Little Circle" is deep, tracky and slightly grubby - think Circulation after a bad day at the office - while Nicson's "Hands Out" growls menacingly for nine heady minutes. Andrea Crestani's "Numb" is, weirdly, anything but (think sparse midtempo deepness), while Alex Medina's "Inside The Storm" is notable for its rarely used combination of heavy jazz drums and rubbery synth bass.
