Review:
A welcome reissue for Bristolian beat-digger Boca 45's debut album, which first dropped on sadly departed Mancunian stalwart Grand Central back in 2004. While Grand Central became synonymous with a kind of glossy, organic, soul-flecked take on trip-hop - see Aim, Rae & Christian etc - they always tried to keep an eye on the party. Boca 45 fulfilled this role, offering cut-and-paste, scratch-tastic instrumental hip-hop cuts (with occasional forays into straight-up vocal hip-hop) guaranteed to send break-minded dancefloors into raptures. It's a style that strangely fell out of fashion in the later 2000s, but Pitch Sounds still stands up to scrutiny seven years on.
