Cio D'or At Juno Download

Review: German producer Cio D'Or may have provided the inspiration for the recent wave of droning, hypnotic techno, but as Magnetfluss so eloquently shows, she is unwilling to become its unwitting poster girl. Inspired by her travels to Asia and South America, both the title track and "Magnetkreis" are evocative codas that unravel over introspective beats and dead-paced drums. At the same time, D'Or hasn't abandoned the dance floor that has served her so well: "Wirbelkraft" features spacey pads unfolding over dubby beats, while "Wasserkraft" is more

forceful, its wobbly drums playing host to reverberating riffs. It may not be the kind of techno 'experience' those she inspired aspire to, but we'll take D'Or's subtlety every time.
