If you were convinced that the WMC was only populated by oiled-up gym bunnies, coked-up managers and plastic wannabe porn stars, then check this release on Hidden. It's as far removed as possible from the stereotypical image of Miami as possible. Black Asteroid's take on Chris Finke's "Don't Try This At Home" is based on a pulsing, searing ebm-style bass and backwards rave stabs, its militaristic claps leading the listener to a dark place. Jonas Kopp and Hans Bouffmyhre both deliver heads-down, dance floor techno versions of Couch Lock and Mike Maass respectively, and even Fred P goes for a grungier sound than usual, with corrosive drums dominating his version of JC Laurent's "From Nice To Berlin". Best of all though is Truncate's take on Flex's "Black Terra", a tracky, tonal analogue tehcno workout.
