Review:
Three pivotal figures in the evolution of Chicago juke music and the developing footwerk scene come together on this new EP for Juke Trax - led by DJ Rashad, who drops a pair of new, lightening fast clap 'n' bounce workers. "Nite Love" is cold and bare, with a diced up sample of Robin S' "Show Me Love" at its core, while "GT Music" uses a nice chunk of "Percolator" and throws in some scuzzed-up kicks and short vocal samples into a perfectly-structured and thrilling juke smasher. Elsewhere, Boylan samples Etta James on "Hands" and Lil Wayne on the brilliantly chaotic "Pistol", while all three producers join forces on the subby half-step of "Drinkin'".

Review:
Getting stuck into a single for Hyperdub as juke and footwork continue to blend into the wider electronic music landscape, DJ Rashad keeps his style true to his roots with rapid fire samples, manic drum patterns and an otherworldly atmosphere. "Rollin" is a bittersweet jam that emotionally pivots on a heartbreak R&B centrepoint, but "Let It Go" soon puts paid to such melancholia with a nod to jungle that finds snappy slices of breakbeat hammering out in a vibe reminiscent of the early days of rave. "Drums Please" builds on that theme with a thrilling jaunt through a moody landscape powered by intricate snare rolls, entering a more adventurous and thought provoking headspace where footwork can show its true potential. Coming full circle, "Broken Hearted" works back into the chopped up balladry of the first track.

Review:
Getting ever more visible across every corner of contemporary electronics, Distal appears now on Brighton's Well Rounded with the logical pairing of juke champ DJ Rashad, and between them they hammer out three monstrous rave bangers full of finely chopped samples, zany melodies and cheeky lifts. "Behold The Jungle Bootleg" is an Abba-baiting riot of old-skool rave dynamics, while "Short & Sweet" sounds more suited to the former's title with its rolling amens and early 90s stabs. If you're tackling the kinetic force of juke with its all-encompassing source material ethic, then this EP has the kind of firepower you need for mass hysteria.

Review:
Teklife Vol 1 represents the first release for footwork trailblazer DJ Rashad's new Lit City Trax imprint, created in collaboration with DJ Spinn and associate J-Cush, and a label which promises to be the definitive label for Chicago's well established footwork scene. At a massive 20 tracks this album is a meaty proposition, and it's testament to Rashad's talent that the album is entirely free of filler. Showing the producer's talent for swelling low end and threadbare percussion, album highlights include his excellent DJ Spinn collaboration "We Trippy Mane" with nods to Juicy J, the analogue mayhem of "She Gonna Go", the manic 303 and 808 assault of "Da Life" and the juxtaposition of smooth Rhodes chords, horn samples and furious percussive rattle on "Kush Ain't Loud".
