Da Goblinn At Juno Download

Review: He may not have the same interest in Italian horror soundtracks as his near namesake, but there is still something inherently creepy about Da Goblinn's latest release. The title track starts with hissing percussion and a robust, grainy bassline, but it's the spooky vocals wrapped around eerie synths that make it stand apart. "Oh Pretty Light" is even weirder, with pitched down vocals fused with a searing bassline to create a dark club tune. But it's the final track, "Into My Arms" that really stands out. Invoking the spirit of Joy Division's Ian Curtis rather than 70s soundtracks, the freaky, disturbed vocals provide the perfect counterpoint to the track's dank, acid lines.

Review: Thoroughly on the dark side of twisted techno, Da Goblinn is back with this new album that encompasses the full spectrum of spooked house. The slinky, minimal ghetto-funk of "Ee-Walk Funk" is a good entry point to Goblinn's world, whilst the usage of detuned, ring-modulated vocals work well on the metal-electro of "All The Kings & Queens" or "Da Boom Boom". As stunning as it is febrile and doom-laden, this is a brilliantly uncompromising listen.
