Review: Bringing the experimental vibes has always been a strength of Ant TC1's Dispatch Recordings and this latest release doesn't bow to commercial pressure. "Degeneration" is a dark cacophony of deep atmospherics and shattered breaks, with lunging bass pushing forward and striking with Cern's trademark deadly accuracy. DBR UK and MTWN's inclusion "Shrapnel" is a fierce stepper with dubby bass vibes set firmly in after dark mentality. One for minimal tension, one to make you move, both from a label that's set itself in firm 'buy on sight' territory for years. An insta-bag.

Review: The cheeky vocal hooks on "Fortress VIP", the latest sonic assault from junglists DBR UK, remind us of the Reprazent classic "Brown Paper Bag". Musically, the track has little in common - it sits in the steppier end of the D&B spectrum, for starters - but in terms of atmosphere and dancefloor effect, positive comparisons can be made. The original version, also included, treads a similar path (minus the catchy MC vocal snippets), while "Carpe Diem" offers more straightforward, traditional dark D&B dancefloor thrills thanks to the use of fat breaks and nightmarish atmospherics.

Review: Tribe 12 is a label run by St Albans' producer & DJ J. Robinson. Here we get a diverse label compilation featuring some of the most forward-thinking drum and bass music out there right this minute. Things kick off with EBK's cinematic "The Flock" which is slow and twitchy with elastic bass; next up is "Top Secret" by Codex, which is pure jungle beats and dark alley noises. Concealed Identity's "Trouble" sticks to the sinister theme, but incorporates dub reggae into the mix. Finally DBR UK wrap things up nicely with "Bushy", a slow, tropical groover features bongo drums and faint birdsong.
