The immense US D&B / dubstep phenomenon Evol Intent return with this new release "Hollow Earth" on their own imprint. The title track is as terrific and violent as you would expect; a growling vocal sample and promise of trouble kicks things off, with pumping drums, grizzled bass and gnarly subs adding pressure from below. "Da Choppa" pairs syncopated, glitchy rhythms and mounting pressure with chopped up breaks, power bass and a frenzied cacophony of sounds. Not for the faint hearted, and fans of the Evol Intent sound will not be disappointed!
America's relationship with drum & bass has always been complicated. While the country has been exporting exciting D&B since the mid'90s (Todd Terry even made a drum & bass album in 1999), the small pockets of talent have been drowned out by much more popular genres. Until now. The US D&B talent pool is getting bigger and louder. Case in point: "Future Sound Of America" a widescreen US assault of the 170 senses. From Ownglow's classic early 2000s filtered roller "Not Like Me" to the marching troops of electricity pylons that is "Getting High At Low Tide" by tech stalwarts Evol Intent by way of the swooning string breezer "Tomorrow Never Promise" by Gridlok & Jamal, Hospital have showcased a great cross-section of talent that confirms America's position in the top tier of D&B exporters right now.
