Ukrainian badman Fade steps aside from his ever-developing Faded Music platform for this couplet of brisk, brusque bangers. "Circles" is a stripped back pneumatic stepper, all spooked out, sirens and slimline riddims. "The Locust", meanwhile, really does hum like a plague of winged blighters, gnawing through everything in their path. With added amens and an ominous lo-fi buzz weaved deep into the dynamic, this is devastatingly dark and funky in equal measure, and comes with a heavenly switch by way of a rushy synth pattern on the breakdown. Powerful.
Fade's launch into the D&B stratosphere has come from years of hard work and graft. You can't craft basslines like that through luck, after all. After releasing on Renegade Hardware, ProgRAM, IM:Ltd and Voodoo Music he's made a name for himself on his own terms, releasing under Faded Music from his home in Kiev. This EP is a solid indication of where Fade is right now as a producer and a DJ, and the two different skills can clearly be spotted throughout, showing knack not only for production skill but a knowledge of what the dancefloor wants. Cold, dark and effortlessly heavy, you don't want to miss this.
