Review: New on Switchstance Records, LA multi-instrumentalist Fat Albert Einstein uses the simple answering message to provide a constant theme throughout this full-length mystical voyage of an album. Using echoey voicemail as a form of constant narrative over the record, FAE uses a smoky funk soundtrack of all his own making to make this a truly memorable modern funk LP. From the rich '50s reggae/cumbia of "The Dump", the Texan funk of "Appalachia" or the doomy psych organs of "Grinder", this is a hugely rewarding album that deserves repeat listening.
