Frank Garcia At Juno Download

Review: Bringing in the African flavour, Spanish DJ and producer Frank Garcia brings on a funky sensation with "El Africano"' and a host of remixes to go with it. Garcia's original is effortlessly groovy, with a heavily organic flavour to the percussion, underpinned by some simple kicks and bass (similar to Dennis Ferrer) - you get the picture.

Many of the mixes come with a more hyped attitude, such as the Peter Ramirez mix, which adds some siren sounds and a long breakdown. Alan Lockwood's deep and dirty mix however is pared-down but almost breathtaking in the way it filters itself up before the drop.

Some stray far from the original - The D-Vission mix for example is barely recognisable, but is still a peak-hour Techno monster. Others are much more loyal to Garcia's funky original, like the Key Unlock Sahara version which has the warmth and percussion, but also adds some harsher atmospherics for a more intense ride.

With Dubstep and UK Funky drawing increasingly on African styles and sounds this release provides a nice Spanish, and House-centered, response.
