Review: Like some of the Workshop releases, Porentief focuses on stripped back, mid-tempo house grooves. On "Marie (vocal mix)", this manifests itself in the shape of lumbering, dubby beats and a grimy, slow-building acid climax. On the title track, FDF sails close to the Lowtec records on Workshop, with slow claps and jazzy chords providing the soundtrack. There is a similar sound on "Chord Juergens"; there, robust drums and warm chords keep on building until the drums get tougher and more prominent in the arrangement. Despite the relatively low tempos, Freund Der Familie succeeds in imbuing the release with an intense musical sensibility.

Review: Klaus Rakete and Mirko Hunger aka Freund Der Familie delivers an assured, accomplished debut album. From the opening ambient washes of "Entropie" to the deep, chiming sounds that prevail on "Colombia" and the mellow soundtrack of "Endless", the direction is largely introspective and musical. That's not to suggest that FDF are shy of the dance floor; "In Distance" is a melodic take on deep house, its robust drums supporting dreamy pads, while "Wry Look" is a pleasant, jazz-tinged stop-start groove. Meanwhile, "Goldie Wilson" is a stripped back minimal house affair and "Pacifier" sees the duo faithfully re-enact the scuffled dub of classic Maurizio.
