Here we have a real meeting of minds with Barcelona's Apersonal music recruiting nu-disco don JEEP aka Jules Etienne for their latest offering. "Luftbrucke" is a gloriously glossy slice of the kind of instrumental Italo-disco that boasts unmistakable waft of beach (Discodromo extends the dreaminess in his mix). "Palast Der Republick" introduces a few strokes of acid house as well floaty vocals to the JEEP formula, while Rotciv drops the acid and ups the house. Finally "Goldman Sachs Building" closes proceedings with a slo-mo end of summer lament, compete with depressed trumpet. Hot!
Former Egyptian Nipples and The Hints man Jules Etienne dons his occasional J.E.E.P alias for a trip into hazy, Balearic deep house territory on Frankfurt's usually on-point Carry On label. Etienne's original version of "Answering Machine", blessed with deliciously dreamy vocals, bubbling electronics and comforting melodies, is the audio equivalent of a big, soft hug. The other original tracks on the EP - the slo-mo nu-disco pulse of "Pager" and melancholic "Walkie Talkie" - follow a similar blueprint. Pleasingly, the accompanying remix package is impressive, with Iron Curtis's breakdown-laden analogue deep house interpretation (complete with tactile synth bassline and hissing cymbals) just edging out Downtown Party Network's baggy, Balearic house take.
