Review: Given his history as a maker of lusciously melodic, soul-flecked electronic music, Martin 'Atjazz' Iveson is a smart choice to remix the latest chunk of boogie-soul from Dave Lee's Sunburst Band project. Iveson's vocal mix is something of a morning fresh blast-from-the-past - a shuffling, Osunlade-ish fusion of Darian's soulful vocals, twinkling pianos and jazzy house percussion. His Syncopated Dub is even better, all warm synths, Henrik Schwarz-ish builds, twinkling pianos and shuffling rhythms. For those looking for a quick percussive hit, Iveson has also provided an excellent Beat Skit. Not to be outdone, Dave Lee also provides a clutch of remixes. Of these, it's the sweet boogie-soul groovery of the Joey Negro Dub that most impresses.

Review: UK disco and house ledge Joey Negro returns - again - this time presenting four reworks of insouciant house jam "Take It To the Top" on his own Z Records imprint. Mule and Freerange alumnus Andreas Saag turns in two revisions, a "dubstrumental" and a straight up remix, with the latter ripe for peak time play. There's also an extended mix from Negro himself which teases out the lush disco arrangement beautifully and an acappella for the more creative DJs out there.

Review: For the past two decades, Frankie Knuckles has specialized in creating the sort of warm, touchy-feely soulful house remixes that recall a more innocent age. Here he's at it again (alongside pal Eric Kupper), re-shaping the Sunburst Band's reveivalist disco-boogie jam "The Secret Life of Us" as a grandiose, string-laden homage to early days of E-fuelled soulful house excess. The Signature Mix makes great use of Diane Charlemagne's excellent vocal, layering it over a classic Knuckles groove and all manner of pads, chords and melodic touches. The Signature Dub, complete with epic intro and singalong chorus repeats, is if anything even better. A pleasing blast from the past, all told.

Review: Notorious sample magpie and veteran housemaster Joey Negro returns with another instalment of the old skool flavoured Surround Sounds project. The EP opens with a suitably slinky deep house rub from the always reliable Session Victim, before heading towards freestyle/synth disco/early NY house pastures with a remix from Kola Kube themselves. While a touch cheesy round the edges (anything that apes freestyle usually is - roll with it), the NY House Mix boasts a suitably solid bottom-end and some nice dubbed-out touches. That just leaves two versions of the Special Dubb (vocal and instrumental), which hover between sun-soaked beach house, sparkling freestyle and retro synth disco.

Eschewing the usual format for remix albums - a CD's worth of reworks - Joey Negro's imprint is offering up a whopping 26 different versions of tracks from his debut Akabu full-length, The Phuture. So, where to start? Jimpster's touchy-feely deep house take on "Searchin" is as good as place as any (handily, it's the opening track). Elsewhere, look out for a splendid, soundscape mix of "Phuture Bound" by Ame, a tight and percussive builder from MCDE, a delightful Detroit techno-meets-electrofunk rework from Octave One, a skippy, old-skool garage excursion from Lovebirds (surprisingly) and solid contributions from Spirit Catcher, Shur-I-Khan and Andre Lodemann.

Review: Recently, Dave 'Joey Negro' Lee has successfully mined a rich seam of boogie and New York synth disco in his house productions. This collaboration with vocalist Joel Edwards continues that trend, fusing sparkling electrofunk synths and a deliriously positive vocal from Edwards with chunky house bottom end. The results are faithfully solid, offering a sharp and synth-heavy take on Lee's traditional disco-house sound. On the remix front, the usually synth-boogie heavy Spirit Catcher flip the script, this time turning in two versions dripping in cute disco touches and colossal old skool garage organs. As remixes go, they're pretty special.

Review: David Lee dusts off some late 90s magic with this reissue of "Does It Feel Good 2 U?" (first released in 1998), which arrives replete with two new remixes from J Paul Ghetto. The original is pretty hard to beat, and it arrives here in extended form, all loopy disco elements and peak time vocals. Review: Of Dave Lee's many pseudonyms, Mistura is arguably one of the most overlooked. Yet he's periodically used the pseudonym to release some superb material, from the live disco-meets-classic US garage flex of 1999's "Think Positive" and deeper "Tonight" (1998), to 2011's Sunburst Band-goes-house vibe of the hummable "Better Things To Come" (very Masters At Work, circa Our Time Is Coming). This first Mistura compilation brings together the singles to date, while also offering an impressive range of acapellas (including two different takes from boogie legend Taana Gardner on "Sweet Magic") and alternative mixes. Of these, it's Todd Edwards' vintage mix of "Tonight" that most impresses, though it's far breezier and less cut-up than his more familiar style.

Review: Named after the break-filled soundtrack to a novelty 70s Italian comedy, Sessomatto is one of UK house legend Joey Negro's many many aliases. Here, he delivers a slamming funky house cover of ESG's classic "Moody" - spicing up that familiar 2-note bassline with plenty of mainroom textures and subtle beats. Review: Here's a little digital bonus for long-time followers of Dave "multiple pseudonyms" Lee - a long-lost rework of 2002 Z Factor single "Sounds In The Air". The remix itself comes from Soul Purpose, a long-forgotten alternative moniker for Peace Division men Clive Henry and Justin Drake. It's a pretty tasty rework, too, coming on like a cross between skippy UK garage, bassy UK house and the sort of jaunty, funky club fodder that Lee is famous for. The original vocal is used sparingly, allowing the duo to make room for hip-shaking beats and some gargantuan sub-bass stabs. Like vintage funky house, only better.
