Review: Having previously surfaced as a cassette-only release, Julia Holter's Live Recordings long player gets digitized to reach the wider world, sharing the bewitching delights of her strange and alluring brew. Clearly a woman fascinated by tone and texture but not constrained by it, Holter's songwriting strikes a chord with the dreamlike musings of Laurel Halo and Maria Minerva, but without the self-consciously lo-fi aesthetic distracting from her talents in melody and voice. "Did You Attend" is especially captivating with its optimistic, bluesy progression atop television samples, while "Hello, Stranger" comes on like the finest downer-pop of Angelo Badalamenti.
