Review:
Maybe it's down to the label that she's releasing on, but Kate Simko's latest record has a decidedly housey feel. Sure, there are still vestiges of her slinky minimalism audible on "Closer". Featuring Jem Cooke on vocals, its subtle groove and vocal intoning 'you got a hold on me' to the backdrop of atmospheric piano lines makes for a seductive combination. Meanwhile, the title track is even more retro; featuring hissing percussion, an electronic bass and steely drums, it sounds like a paean to classic Larry Heard. Finally, "Out of Order" features an insistent vocal sample; coupled with deep, jazzy keys floating in and out of the mix, it makes for a wonky take on deep house.

Review:
It's interesting to hear that late 90s, UK-influenced tech-house has made a return. In some ways, it's a logical progression for producers who embraced deep house after mnml imploded, but for Anthony Collins, it's the sound he started off with. On the title track, Simko and Collins use Brothers Vibes' vocals to create a moody yet soulful groove, its menacing bass and firing percussion sounding like the natural successor to Terry Francis's Resse-inspired productions. "Run & Tell" is of a similar disposition, but there, the duo deploy playful strings and seductive chords which lends some polish - but listen closely and you'll still hear the raw, driving rhythms of deepest, darkest Croydon.
