Review: Go Up To Get Down is the new remix album from UK based house and hip-hop shifter, Kidda. With an original album due for release later this year, Skint Records have decided to release a collection of remixes from Kidda's 2008 debut album.

Kidda, AKA Ste McGregor, has an undeniable talent when it comes to producing hip-hop-funk twisted with house music. By merging breaks, hip-hop beats, soul and house, Kidda is able to ignite any party with his fun and energetic take on music. Picked up by Skint Records after his impressive first two EPs, "Shoe Cash EP" and "Word Booty EP" Kidda released his critically acclaimed debut album last year. Going up had a refreshing sound that combined afro-funky percussive rhythms, soulful vocals, blessed out synths in a cut-up heavy, playful debut full length. The album was a hit straight away and Kidda became an in-demand DJ around the world. An upshot of that was that a number of Kidda remixes began to surface. One such offering was Herve?s remix of "Under The Sun." The combination of Herve?s production and Kidda's hooks got the remix plenty of attention. Featured on a Bacardi advert, "Herve's Under The Sun" remix turned into one of the biggest dance tracks of 2008.

Now, Kidda has enlisted the help of several top notch producers to give his entire debut the remix treatment. In addition to the massive Herve remix, Go Up To Get Down includes Jack Beats, Heavy Feet, Detboi, Jaymo & Andy George amongst many more. A fun and funky remix album, happy melodies and hooks litter this party powering mix.

Review: Skint's Kidda plunders his recent Hotel Radio album for this luscious and orchestral, Flaming Lips-esque single featuring the vocals of long time collaborator Lee Baker. But the real joy is Dublin DJ Detboi's standout remix - a darkside and hugely moody dubstep remake in the same vein as Burial or Pangaea, with a nicely contrasting use of Baker's vocals. Detboi's instrumental is included for full appreciation of his crystalline textures and crisp, glitchy beats, while other mixes from the Black Dots and Deconstruction break out on a funkier and vastly more upbeat tip.

Review: As a taster of Kidda's second album for Skint, the forthcoming Hotel Radio, the Brighton label have given the stems of "Wanna Be Loved" over to Stupid Fresh and Benji Boko for a pair of smart rerubs. London jack 'n' bass-fiend Stupid Fresh has already won effusive support from Todd Edwards and Aston Shuffle and he proves why with this pacey mix that mixes hardcore bass sounds with a fun-filled electro-house beat. Benji Boko maintains more of a indie/cut 'n' paste vibe on his mix, channelling The Avalanches amongst others as he mixes acoustic guitars with psychedelic vocal treatments. Kidda also drops a mix, which sees him go off on a twisted gallop of beats, steel drums and winding dubstep-esque bass.
