Lodbrok's second outing on Counter Pulse is a diverse affair. At one end of the spectrum there's "Ports OE", a big room groover underpinned by jagged percussive elements and led onwards and upwards by spacey chords. In marked contrast is "Plage C". Stripped back and atmospheric, its pulses meander at a more leisurely pace. Chevel's take also stays at this tempo and is draped in spacey 303s, but neither can compare to Subjected's remix of "Ports Oe". Turning the original inside out, the rhythm is like a stepping take on Klockworks dense approach, while the grainy analogue bleep at its centre could be an update of the central theme in Mike Dunn's evergreen Magic Feet.
