As the title suggests, this five-tracker from the previously re-edit-happy Editorial imprint showcases slo-mo disco/house crossover cuts from a selection of mostly little-known producers (the fast-rising Matthew Kyle aside). For those who've been digging the superb releases of labels like Sleazy Beats, Wolf Music and Instruments Of Rapture, Slo-Motion Potion comes highly recommended. It's largely impressive stuff, with DJ Butcher's epic "Shake Your Body", Kyle's deliciously sensual "Off My Mind" and 78 Edits' heady opener "Come On Baby" standing out. That said, the whole package is well worth a listen.
The first House of Disco 12", released in the summer, set out the label's stall as a home for superior atmospheric, touchy-feely house with more than a dash of disco. This second full-length, featuring tracks from various fast-rising disco/house producers, raises the bar further. There's much to enjoy, from the comfy soul cut-ups and rock solid grooves of Matthew Kyle's "Toni" and the classic deep house blues of Luminodisco's "Too Night" to the E'd-up end of night goodness of The Groovers' "All Night". Best of all, though, is Rocco Raimundo's "Give Me Your Love", a teasing, tantalizing close dance with Luther Vandross and the girl of your dreams.
Since it's the season of giving, the Dikso crew have decided to give away this collaboration between Norequests and Matthew Kyle free of charge. It's very typical of the Dikso/Matthew Kyle sound, taking an old Philly soul classic - in this case Archie Bell & The Drells impeccable slow dancer "Strategy" - and breathing new life into it via contemporary house production techniques. As you'd expect, it's expertly done, offering a dubbed-out slow jam with just the right mix of vocal goodness, bassline-driven grooviness and string-laden euphoria. A nailed-on New Year's Eve banger... for free. What more do you want?
