Review: We're not sure quite what started the trend towards mashing up whirring electro house with trance-like riffery, but there's a fair chance the Dutch were involved. Whatever the source, that sound is huge right now, and even Roger Sanchez - a man who once had thumping, darkroom New York house in his veins - is embracing it. This newie from Michael Calfan is almost the perfect example of the genre. The riffs jump around excitedly like a vintage big room trance record, while the grooves strut and puff their chest out like the finest electrohouse. If Orbital had started making records in 2011 rather than 1989, they would probably sound like this.

Review: French house sensation Michael Calfan has impressed hugely over the last year with mainroom-meets-French touch originals as well as remixes for Bob Sinclar. Here though, Calfan's latest tune "Resurrection" gets a makeover by Swedish house mafioso Axwell who concocts a storming set of trance keys and a hugely memorable four-chord sequence that he arranges with skill on both the radio and club edits - which at almost 5 minutes is simply packed with big room thrills.
