Mone At Juno Download

Review: As a stalwart of Strictly Rhythm, Mone has previously lent her stunning and raw vocals to Jazz 'n' Groove's classics "We Can Make It" and "Movin" back in the '90's. Truly a voice which house producers lust after, it's gritty, soulful and very very loud. On blinding form as a vocalist, she's back with "Love Don't Pay The Rent" which gets the remix treatment from three new jack producers with more than enough skill between them to wreck any dancefloor.

Brazilian DJ Meme leads the way with a mix and a dub that oozes classic 70's Philly soul out of every single bar. A man so proud of the orchestral swagger that he brings to his mixes, his byline on his myspace even says "Yes, the strings are real!" He has a right to be proud - not since the glory days of Chic and Barry White has anyone used strings so devastatingly on dance records. His treatment of "Love Don't Pay The Rent" (which recalls Glen Cambell's "Wichita Lineman" at one point) is sheer disco-house heaven, balancing the strings, pianos and classic kicking beats in perfect harmony.

London's The Jinks also keep things thrillingly soulful and jacking on their mix, which leaves Mone's vocals aside for a long time while it builds itself up with some punchy filtered loops that prove irresistible. By the time the vocal finally drops and the beat kicks back in, you know it's a heavyweight house anthem in the making. NYC's Scott Wozniak keeps his mix disco-centric whilst also giving it a nice deep bassy feel, all the while letting Mone's Gwen Guthrie-referencing vocal ride over the top. A classic in the making, these mixes all do wonders with Mone's voice and are highly recommended to anyone with a taste for house music of any variety.
