This mini album was first released on vinyl and CD way back in 2004, as a kind of companion piece to the widely acclaimed Moodymann compilation Black Mahogani. For those who've come late to the eccentric, musically adventurous world of Kenny Dixon Jnr, it's well worth a listen. Of particular note is lead cut "When She Follows", a suitably epic soundscape piece that typifies Dixon's loose, marijuana-fuelled approach to jazz. While informed by the steady pulse of Dixon's deep house work, the track is propelled towards a stunning conclusion via four staples of jazz: electric piano, double bass, freestyle vocals and crisp, cymbal-driven percussion. The rest of the release, specifically the gorgeous "Rectify", follows a similar formula. Highly recommended.
