Review: Spanish DJ, producer and multi-instrumentalist Mr Gagun makes his debut for Timewarp with an album bristling with horn-heavy groovery. Gagun's sound is heavily steeped in funk and soul, but also takes in hip-hop, jazz, swing, R&B, dub, ghetto-funk and the low-end pulse of contemporary bass music. It makes for a breezy, soulful set, similar in ethos (if not style) to much of the output of Brighton's Tru Thoughts label. There are plenty of floor-filling moments to enjoy, from the hectic jazz-dance beats of "Funky Dog" and the gorgeous Latin strut of "Mi Sello", to the expansive soul of "Giro Con La Vida" and horn-heavy breaks of "Set You Off".

Review: The second EP from Spanish producer Pedro Ortuno Benito (aka Mr Gagun) features a classy set of remixes of his funky "Set You Off", as well as a new extended version featuring the sexy vocals of Alejandra Barella. Guy Gomez takes the tune out to the disco while adding some subtle electro bass and layering Barella's vocals over it all perfectly. Saul Wolf goes for a more breaks-heavy version, while Van Rubi flips it into a smooth funky house joint, relete with long, edit-style percussion breaks. Fans of nu-jazz will also flip for Nitrobass & Q-rro's sleek mix of horns and wah-wah guitar.
