Review: Continuing to offer forth various artist release of an ever-diversifying nature, the latest instalment of the Hoya:Hoya series features three interesting takes on bright and musical electronica. Ikonika throws down some solid funky beats and douses them in yearning, full fat lead synths with a certain depth not normally found in such sound sources. Om Unit meanwhile opts for a multi-faceted excursion in rhythm, with plenty of arpeggios playing around with the ever-shifting beat arrangements. Monky's 2-step groove is more direct, while his own melodics take on an 8-bit charm that is all his own.

Review: London based producer Om Unit returns with next release "Aeolian" on Reso's Civil Music. Never restricted by genre, he traverses juke, dubstep, R&B, hip-hop, garage and all shades of the "bass music" spectrum, with a jungle influence sometimes creeping in. Opening with the esoteric "Ulysseus", this one is all about the rippling, rain-dancing rhythms and steady, stomping beats. Moving on to "Dark Sunrise (feat. Tamara Blessa)", we are treated to a storming dubstep banger with super sweet vocals in a dark, thunderous soundscape. "Fumes" is a more sparse and spaced out little number with dreamy, ethereal synths; while "Lightworkers Call" brings in the talents of Kromestar for another dark, nocturnal venture. "Slowfast Matrix" brings in a flurry of quirky rhythms to the equation before "Ulysses" is given the remix treatment twice over. Essential, no question.

Review: A hotbed of talent has emerged from the Civil Music camp of late, and this release, from none other than London based cross-genre magician Om Unit, is no exception from the rule. A stunning six-track EP, which kicks off with the oriental, shimmying "Swimming Dragon" with its razor sharp beats and enticing tone, is well worth a listen. Rumbling beats pervade "An Eternal Way" too, whilst "Vibrations" brings in hazy synths, echoing vocal and a thumping drum, which reverberates and dominates the soundscape. "Cold World" is the last original piece on the EP - an evocative concluding statement. Machinedrum and Ital Tek remix "Vibrations" and "Swimming Dragon", adding even more credibility to this already excellent EP.

Review: A solid pairing crops up for the first release on new label Cosmic Bridge, as the hip-hop informed beats of Om Unit meet the steady dubsteppings of Kromestar. "Solar Cycle" and "Merkabah" both tread logical ground for the pair, keeping a West Coast bump present alongside the bassweight dancefloor necessities. The synths fall in a controlled fashion, immaculately produced and steady. Well worth checking and an auspicious debut release.

Review: There's some incredible creativity happening around the 80-95 mark at the moment. The once wholesome and innocent Autonomic sound has hit its teens and it's getting just a little bit bolshy. "Small Victories" still breathes with the same blissed out sweetness but there's a darker substance in the beefy underbelly. "Gamma", meanwhile, is 100 per cent unruly; steppy, tripletty and saturated in deep, immersive drone-bass, it's an instant rabble-rouser. "Squares" slouches up the rear, lolloping along, covered in a trippy texture of counter melodies. "Electric Riddim" finishes this victorious journey with a heavy nod to both classical jungle and the future.
