Of late, veteran Venezuelan DJ/producer Pablo Sanchez (now residing in Barcelona) has been pushing a sound based around deep house, nu-disco and Afro-funk. However for this new release he appears to return to the jazzier influences that informed his earlier work. "Out & About" is six minutes of party clap beats and sizzling freeform jazz. On the remix front, Kyodai goes for a crazy, escalating, Dave Brubeck inspired freakout while Opolopo delivers a more familiar funky house version.
Spanish label Justified Cause showcase more home-grown talent, in the form of Barcelona's Pablo Sanchez. For the deep house routed 'Space Key' he enlists vocals from Swede songstress Kissy Asplund, delivering a unique and interesting vocal which although not instantly a smash, will work its way to the back of the mind after a couple of listens. The remix pack is a chunky one with label honcho GarcyNoise upping the pace and attitude, built around a relentless rolling bassline, there's also a psy edged bubbler from New Yorker Nick Chacona. Further cuts come from San Fran rising star Al Velila, and Alex V respectively delivering two further strong alternatives.
This is something of a "bits and pieces" release from Apersonal, featuring as it does previously unreleased cuts from various label regulars. That said, the quality threshold remains impressively high. Venezuelan producer Trujillo continues his fine run of form with "Send Me Away". Easily the stand out, it moves from clav-heavy deep house head-nodder to disco acid wig-out, finally finishing as a disco-soul singalong. Ilya Decado's "Sweet, Sweet Moments" delivers some hustling disco/house fusion with just the right amount of hands-aloft build, before Pablo Sanchez rounds things off with the drifting Balearic disco shuffle of "Our Closing Circle".
