Pale At Juno Download

Review: A wonderfully ethereal release here from teenage producer Pale. The Yearn EP, released on the Bullet Train label, opens with the richly melodic title track, in which a sparse yet richly melodic soundscape similar to The xx's excellent "Intro" is created. "Those Ships", up next, is a more joyous affair, with uplifting tampered vocals and all manner of intricate post-dubstep atmospherics. Final track "Ghosts" is easily our favourite - the vocal elements shine brightest, the beat is stripped back and the overall sensation is heavenly. One for fans of Mount Kimbie, Four Tet and James Blake.

Review: Pale brings a new angle to the much-explored post-dubstep landscape with three deep, experimental tunes, which traverse genres but manage to maintain a clear identity. The eponymous track of the EP is all delicate, skittish beats and swooning melodies dancing in a sparse, stripped back soundscape. Next, "Fille" is all twinkling SFX and stuttering beats with snippets of vocal coming in and out of focus, with a curious and disorientating effect. "Damn Social", the concluding track, works minimalism to a new level with sparse beats and a humming drone in the background and distorted synths adding to the discord.
