Darkside solider Prolix returns to the soundwaves with another momentous release, this time on Klute's Commercial Suicide imprint. Title track "Saw Head" builds from a tense, cinematic intro full of terse beats and eerie, sweeping atmospherics into a punishing main part with undulating bass, groaning sub bass and razor sharp drums. A midway breakdown adds further moodiness to this dark, menacing slice of madness. Next up is the dancefloor-driven "Funkhole" with its quirky bleepy synths, grinding bass and pumping drum work. It's something of a nod to Renegade Hardware, and finishes the release off magnificently.
A powerhouse in D&B circles, with key releases and mixes on Renegade Hardwarde, Metalheadz and Virus, Prolix gets seriously busy on these two new tunes, exclusive to Juno Download. "Visualize" makes great use of off-kilter auto-tuned vocal samples in amongst the techy backing, with hi-hats every bit as epic as you'd expect from Prolix, while "Lounge Lizard" goes for a more raw feel to the beats, as it juggles cut-up drum samples over a sea of dense and murky bass pads.
