Review: Henry Riton's last release was the co-incidentally-titled Dark Place, which came out shortly after the tragic death of his Carte Blanche partner, DJ Medhi in 2011.Having understandably kept a low profile since then, he's now back with this powerful new release on Ed Banger. "Bang Your Head" is a hysterical, anthemic acid freak-out, "Dance To The Great Golfball In The Sky", is a glammy electro-house stomper, and "Lost My Mind" is, surprisingly, a total ghetto hip-hop curveball that's echoed on EP closer, "Girls In The Hood" - a deep and heavy bass-led grinder boasting a cameo from French Electroclash chanteuse Miss Kittin. Good to have him back!

Review: UK producer Riton has had many homes (DFA, Ed Banger, Turbo, Modular, Phantasy to name a few), and many collaborators, including the much-missed DJ Mehdi as Carte Blanche. Dim Mak however have hooked him up for this excellent release, which precedes further exciting hook-ups with Canblaster, Scrufizzer, Sneaky Sound System and Cocknbullkid. Riton's hip-hop roots show on "Dark Place" as he revives a vocal sample that first got mined by Double Dee and Steinski for their seminal "Lesson 3" but which dates back all the way back to '50s Broadway. Dropping that familiar "I know, a dark, secluded place" sample over a shadowy yet pumping electro beat works a treat, while accompanying tune "Acp" keeps things fiercely tropical thanks to some booty bass and funky percussion.
