Review: A very special release, curated the Laid Back Radio collective from Belgium, that sees jazz pianist and composer Anckaert lay down the first four tunes, which in turn get remixed, re-vocalled and generally beated up by Monkey Robot. PAT's originals are a true delight - pitched somewhere between Bob James, Herbie Hancock and Kenny Burrell, they brim with raw fusion styles and analogue recording techniques. Adding vocalists such as Carina Anderson and Ahu (who've worked with 4 Hero and Fly Lo respectively), Monkey Robot turn the songs into broken beat boogie bombs, with plenty of trippy edges thrown in for a radical yet impressive overhaul.
