Russ Gabriel At Juno Download

Review: It feels like a 90s techno reunion as Russ Gabriel releases on Jamie Anderson's label. However, it quickly becomes clear that Gabriel's latest missive has little to do with the obtuse techno of Ferox or his jazz-fuelled approach for Out of the Loop. Instead, Gabriel serves up a housey groove, its robust bass underpinning an infectious, cut-up vocal sample and building synth riffs. Anderson himself veers further into this direction with a slower groove providing the basis for tripped out chord sequences. It's left up to Dave Angel to remind the listener of the era that spawned so much great UK techno, as eerie chords and chilling strings dive-bomb in over an insistent, jerky rhythm.
