Review: Future Disco compiler Sean Brosnan gets the once over from a pair of Nu-Disco dons on his debut release. Brosnan's original of Sat Jam pools together awesome bass, some classy dub effects as well as a sure-footed groove. Ray Mang snatches up the A-side with his mix though - a spellbinding rerub that takes it's time to drop but keeps you hooked with it's tight piano-house motif and cosmic production. Man of the moment Eddie C also takes Sat Jam to task, going much deeper than the original and dropping the bpm's down slightly for a more soulful and blissed-out version.

Review: Needwant’s popular Future Disco series reaches its fourth volume, with another epic trawl through some of 2010’s biggest Neon tinged late night bombs. It’s the first section that impresses most, offering a thrill-a-minute journey through low-slung contemporary New York disco, breezy nu-disco and even touching on house. The tracklist is a little heavy on the admittedly brilliant but already familiar (Jacques Renault’s ubiquitous take on Midnight Magic’s "Beam Me Up", Greg Wilson’s remix of Escort and "Look Right Through", Morgan Geist’s debut as Storm Queen ), but scratch beneath the surface and you’ll find superb, lesser-known tracks and mixes. Particular highlights include the superlative Gadi & Soul Clap tweak of 80s Boston act Bad Rabbits, Filippson & Ulysses emotive ode to John Carpenter and Bonar Bradberry getting reshaped by Pete Herbert.

Review: For those with a penchant for the blurred boundaries between house, nu-disco and contemporary electrofunk, the Future Disco series has always been a reliable source of high quality material. This fifth volume continues that trend, offering up a two-disc selection (one disc mixed, the other unmixed) that has squidgy synth basslines, slick pads and warm electronic melodies seeping out of every digitally encoded groove. While there are plenty of scene anthems present (Tiger and Woods remixing Tensnake, Classix reworking Cosmic Kids, Benoit & Sergio's ace "Principles"), there's plenty of lesser-known fare to excite the nerds - not least some thrilling contributions from fast rising house/disco fusionists Maxxi Soundsystem and Bonar Bradberry.
